Awesome top water in my backyard.
I love me some popper action. Nice tournament day.
Niiice man. Miss Fish River. That place has some bigguns if you get far enough up river, especially in the cooler months. Another great video brotha!
Has an S on the bottom!
Yeah, that’s a good way to tell the difference. I still haven’t caught much on the shallows. These days I check to make sure there is no S before I tie on. Haha
To buy this reel in about 1980 and not use it. Easy answer. A person that could not get past his first love. His Abu Ambassador!
You may be on to something, those old round ambassadors are still nice. Built like tanks too. I’ve recently starting using/hoarding the old xlts from the 80s. Not quite round and not quite low profile, but still built like an ambassadeur.
After some tinkering and few bad words the baits now work as they should.Simply that the front spinner is a fraction too small.Replaced with a slightly bigger Hawg Caller blade and they now run perfect ! This is only the 1/4 oz bait.Dont know about the heavier ones. They may be fine but the 1/4 are not up to Hank standards.
Awesome glad you got it fixed, hope you catch a bunch on em!
I just received 2 of the 1/4 oz model. The front spinner does not spin properly. Tried adjustments. No luck.Dissapointing for 9.99 and returns.Wont buy another.
Hate to hear that, that front blade should just be a Colorado blade on a clevis. The only issue I could see stopping that from spinning would be if the holes in the clevis were too small. Maybe reach out to HP bait shop and they can send you some new ones.
@Eightmile_Drifter Thank you.Its 2 baits ,same issue.Clevis on both seem to spin freely on shaft.I removed plastic sleeve to reposition the front blade.Tiny bit better but far from normal.Blade is not backwards.Checked that.Lost my last Manns last week.I haze it.They were great. They say no returns but might ask anyway. Thanks for your interest.
I WAS OVER THERE A MONTH AGO AND TOOK A VIDEO OF ME PULLING 3 FLOUNDER AND A KEEPER RED OUT OF A CREEK MOUTH A TAD WIDER THAN YOUR KAYAK COULD FIT THROUGH. CAUGHT IT JUST RIGHT, KNOWING THE WIND WAS PUSHING THE WAVES IN THAT JOKER AND MAN DID IT PAY OFF! I FIND ON FLOUNDER YOU HAVE TO LET THEM TAKE THE BAIT A FEW SECONDS OR YOU WILL MISS A LOT MORE THAN YOU CATCH.
If that creek is on the west side I probably know where it is. Good creek in the back to if so. Love coffee island but if a storm kicks up it can be tough getting back. Coming from bass fishing it’s hard to let the fish hold it too long. Seems like they are going to take me back in something haha. Letting them hold it is a smart move though. Thanks for checking out the video!
That silver minnow is the right stuff. I love mine. You can cut that wire half way and put a small bend in it. Then add a 6-7 “ worm with a curly tail. Add the worm and it will go any place. Plus the worm draws bass like crazy.
Haven’t used a worm that long on mine but I may have to give it a shot. I love how weedless the spoon is. Thanks for checking out the video!
I FIND THAT YOU HAVE TO WAIT A FEW SECONDS THEN SET THE HOOK ON THEM FLOUNDER, OTHERWISE, YOU WONT LAND HALF YOUR CATCH.
You’re right, it’s a very hard thing for me to not jerk it immediately, i really love when it’s those 20” flounder and they just inhale it so it doesn’t matter. Glad the flounder have made such a strong comeback the last couple years. A few years ago it was tough to get a single one.
Nice job buddy! Good area. When weather permits, you could try running that rock jetty perimeter. It usually holds a ton.
Oh yeah I’m trying to learn fishing rocks better I just hate losing all the tackle. That seems to be where the better fish are.
Nicely done! I sure hope we don't have weather like that on Saturday!!! I don't mind the rain so much, but no to the ⚡.
Thanks, me too, overcast would be nice hopefully not bad storms, but wind turns the bite on up there.
this is a realy cool video
Thank you! It was cool to film and edit.
You braver than me. I will fish most conditions just not lightning.
I’ll put the rods down if it gets really close but other than that I try to rock on through it.
Buddy Idk what kinda weeds you're used too but that thing is far from weedless. Stupid tube beats this hands down.
I’m mostly fishing around heavy wood cover and in pads. It’s just as weedless as a swim jig. In heavy wood I like to crawl it through and in pads I will swim it like a swim jig. The stupid tube is also a really good way to rig a tube. This is just a little variation. I hope you will give it a shot. Thanks for checking out the video!
That big bull red took you for a ride!
Oh yeah, they are a lot of fun once they start peeling drag!
Nice man. You cleaned up on those fish and covered some water! I always enjoyed fishing that area.
Thanks bud, I ran into ole Steve on that trip up North. He was hunting his big flounder of the year. I love the Pascagoula point when the weather is right.
Great stuff man!! I’ve been wanting to make a kayak video for my channel!! Love watching your videos man!! Awesome job, keep it going!! 💪🤝
Thanks brother, glad you’re enjoying the content. Kayak fishing is a blast, you should give it a go. I enjoy it more than any other kind of vessel.
Looks like a fun time. Good video! I've gotta learn to skip! I've seen you do that in several of your videos and it's an awesome tool to have if you know how to do it. Especially with the dog days of summer upon us.
Yea buddy, I got my butt kicked by the other Jeff in the club several years ago because he could skip and I couldn’t. Most frustrating trip but I learned that it was a skill I needed to get good at. It takes a lot of practice and choosing the right bait but it’s a very productive tool to have.
How are you liking the millennium seat?
I love it but had to take the swivel off for stability reasons. The seat is so much more comfortable than the standard kayak seat. Although I wish I would have gotten the marine version so it would be a little more salt water resistant.
I know exactly where that creek is at! ...Im just kidding, I have no clue. Looks like you crushed em though. Nice job buddy!
Haha thanks. you may have passed it before if you’ve gone to Louisiana with Steve. Had to edit out a few catches that gave out big clues haha.
Your demonstration removes the benefits of a tube. The hollow body traps air, which allows the tube to glide in the water and sink very slowly. Using the same jig head with the weed guard on it all you do is put the hook into the tip of the tube slide The hook down into the inside of the tube and pop out on the top.of the tube. the hook. Therefore it’s perfectly exposed. The tube remains hollow and you still have the same jig head. The tube is also straight your tube is bent. It loses its floating ability and the advantage of the construction of a tube. Depending on the water, I have hooked tubes up this way without a weed guard and with the weed guard. You can find little bitty, hollow balls about the size of a pee that fit into the tube from the rear ceiling the air in it. Your demonstration looks Like it will not work. There was a time when I only fished tubes and I tried every type of configuration.
Thanks for the feedback. Using the Zman tubes and trailers I’m able to get a slow fall and gliding motion. The trapping of air you mentioned does make sense. If using traditional plastics that sink it might be a deal breaker, but the elaztech tubes and trailer plastics float if unweighted and help to slow the rate of sink once weighted. After using this set up for a few years I have determined the major value of it is the easy ability to skip into heavy cover and either drag or swim out depending upon the situation. At first I was disappointed I couldn’t get the tube exactly straight but have noticed it gives a rocking motion when being retrieved that I think is an attractor. I’m planning to make a part 2/ revision video in which I address a few changes from my original set up. It will be very similar, just a few minor tweaks. I hope you will check it out once it releases and give your feedback on it. I appreciate any advice or feed back I receive. Tight lines.
Great video!! Boatyard lake was the favorite fishing spot for both my Grandfathers..looks great now too- me and my Wife are going to make a trip there soon! Keep the great videos coming!! BTW- Subscribed!
Thanks for the sub I really appreciate it! Yeah boat yard is a great place. Good fishing area and there’s a good swimming area up the river just a ways if you need to cool down. Great crappie and bream lake. Holly creek is another good one in the same area.
Those things are killer at night around light perimeter. Great review buddy, solid bait!
Thanks bud, can’t wait to try them under a light knowing they glow. Should be a good producer.
Had 2 in my tacklebox for years. Never tried them until last week. 3lb smallmouth on my first cast
That’s awesome! I wish they were easier to get ahold of. eBay is your best bet unless you could find an old tackle store.
Need to find you an old shims o rod to go with it
Yeah I’d love to find an old bull whip pistol grip! Be a great pairing.
Interesting. I've had some rust / corrosion issues with some of my hooks. I'm guessing that even though I fish "freshwater" there must be some salt content . I'll start spraying and see if that slows down the issue. I kinda figured it to be the high humidity, so I started putting those silica packets inside my plano boxes.
There’s a little bit of salt in the water until you get several miles upriver. After last years Chickasabogue tournament I left one of my combos for about 2 months and tried to used it and it had started to get crunchy from the little bit of saltiness. It’s difficult to gauge when you need to clean in brackish water but my rule now is if I see a crab at any point where I’m fishing I rinse haha. Rinsing whatever lures you use and letting them fully dry before long storage in a box greatly reduces rust from what I’ve found.
💞Wow🧡🤍🤍🤍🤍🧡🤍🤍🤍
Thank you!
Good tip!
Thanks brother!
I love being able to see the fish and cast right at them like that. That water was shallow and clear. Good stuff, dude.
Thanks bud, I like it too but it can be very frustrating when you see them and they won’t bite😅. Sometimes it will drive me crazy.
I had to Google Shakey Head just so I'd know what you were talking about 😂 I love Zoom baits. Most all of my plastics are Zoom...looks like I'll have to add that to my arsenal. Good video.
Thanks bud! Shakey heads are like pre made Texas rigs. I like them becauseI don’t have to keep up with hooks and weights and it gives an all in one package. Zoom makes good stuff for the price point.
That creek was pretty clear. I like those magnum tricks. Cool video brotha!
Thanks bud, yeah it goes from tannic to crystal clear way upstream. There are striped bass up that way in the summer. I’d like to get them dialed enough to do a video on summer time stripers.
Old GoPro for you. Good job
Thanks buddy, yeah I’ve learned to not use maximum settings and external power with no battery. Does much better with not over heating, and I can get all of the catches now.
It's even more weedless if you point the guard directly at the hook point. The way you have it, grass can still get under the guard and find the hook. Still works pretty good, though.
That makes sense, I guess I try to run it how a standard bass jig with a brush guard looks. I’ll have to try that. Thanks for the tip!
Hey man! Looking for some guidance, I have a BFS setup, and am used to bait casters, but cant seem to get this lined out so that every other cast im not fixing a birds nest. Any pointers?
Hey buddy, I’m using the Curado BFS so my tips will be what has helped me for that reel… First make sure the rod you are using has a pretty whippy tip that will help in throwing light baits. If the tip is too stiff you may be having to overcompensate by how hard you are throwing and that could be leading to over runs. The BFS reels are not advertised to hold a lot of line. Usually 30-40yds max. Make sure you are not over spooling. You should be able to see around 1/8” of the spool after it’s filled. I had to measure out the line my first time spooling so I didn’t over fill. If the spool is overfilled it can cause over runs. I also run my mag break wheel pretty high on bfs. The 4/5 and 8/10 range. Hopefully these tips help out. You should be able to throw 1/16oz or heavier without much difficulty. 1/32 is where it gets tricky and you have to throw it carefully.
Sounds so peaceful out there. Good stuff! Love me some yak fishing 🎣 👏
Thank you, it is pretty nice when you get way back in the swamp with no other boats out there. Thanks for checking out the video!
Great slabs. The more I watch guys fishing with gear like livescope, the more impressed I am with guys who catch fish without it.
Thanks brother, yeah I think it would take some of the fun out of locating the bait and fish if I could see them. The old school ways still work.
great video!
Thanks buddy!
Man I miss these months for fishing. I kinda wouldnt mind if it was like that year round. Nice work buddy!
Thanks! Yeah me too, it’s nice fishing all day and never breaking a sweat, no gnats and mosquitos. It’s hard to wake up early when it’s freezing out but it’s worth it.
is that an old LEw's rod from the 70's??
Haha pretty close, the reel is a mid 1980s Abu ambassador XLT and the rod is a bull bay shorty. It’s designed to be a modern day take on the old pistol grip. Most of my casting is close quarters so I prefer a shorter handle and rod when I can get away with it. It’s difficult to find a quality pistol grip anymore. But that’s a good one. The older reels have less bearings to go bad from salt water and are easy to clean and service. Good eye!
Awesome specks! Boy was the wind blowing. That spike came in handy.
Thanks! Yes it was very windy. Hate the days I forget anchor stick haha. Thanks for checking out the video!
Glad you are safe! Wind more than anything else worries me on the water. After seeing you stay put in that wind, I'm gonna be getting an anchor pole soon. Good catches, I've not caught a trout or a red yet. Looking forward to seeing y'all next weekend!!
The anchor stick helps out tremendously if you need to stay put as long it’s not sandy. Gets hard to stick it through sand. That wind was brutal that day. Very educational experience on where to never go back to on a hard east wind. Looking forward to Fish River also, we need this rain to chill out a few days before the tournament so the water level can be right.
You found some good trout in those creeks. I always enjoyed fishin that area.
Thanks buddy, yeah I love exploring those marsh mazes also. I’ve always wondered if the really big trout over 25” ever get in creeks like that. I’ve caught upper teens but never any big gals.
Good job. Where you fishing at
Small oxbow off of the upper tensaw delta area. Around Mobile, AL
Man, I don't know how you do it! 11 miles of paddling and fishing?!?! I give you props. Good video. I'm amazed at all the places you will venture off to. Always enjoy watching.
Thanks bud, a lot of those long trips turn into more paddling than good fish catching trips. It’s hard to resist seeing what’s around the next bend sometimes. Thanks for checking out the video!
Good video with lots of good catches. If you get a chance check out bayou bandits channel for the double flounder rig he’s using down there. He’s had several videos where he does well on it. He’s catching some keeper size fish on it.
Thank you! I’ve watched some of his videos, we fish a few of the same areas. I’ll check his rig out and give it a shot. If it’s similar to the old double speck rig I used to keep those tangled up haha. Thanks for checking out the video!
Coffee island is a blast. Miss fishing there. You put a little work in paddling it.
Oh yeah it’s always a good time going out there. It’s an all day trip though. Still haven’t been to the southern tip yet. Might be a neat camping spot if you could keep the gnats at bay haha.
Hey Jut how you been
Pretty good buddy, just working and fishing. Hows things up your way?
Depending how shallow their staged during a spawn or early fall man they’ll hit top water because they feed up if you ever seen one turn over & splash the water that’s them feeding off the surface
And love this video keep ripping lips and hitting boat flips brother
You make a good point, I know of one lake nearby where they come up to surface and pop similar to a bluegill. I wish I had a good way to target crappie topwater all of the time. Seems like a good way to catch bigger ones. Thanks for checking out the video!
Just stop with the rubber band skirt already they are terrible
Yeah they can be inconvenient to put on or when you have a bait a couple of years and the band has gotten hard and it breaks when it hits the water. Guess that’s why most lure makers are going to wire tired.
