Today is November 9, 2024 and the is day 1 of the MBKFA championship. It's taken all year to qualify and get here. This is a CPR tournament to decide the angler of the year for this season. There are 7 of us fishing this event and on day 1 we must all launch at Bayou La Batre, AL. I decided to skip pre fishing for this one and just make a plan based on the weather and let it rip. We will be at ...

The Long Journey To Bull Bay Bayou. Was It Worth It?
มุมมอง 274หลายเดือนก่อน
This is my footage for the 2024 MBKFA 5 Rivers Tournament. The date is 9/21/2024. I decided last minute to fish somewhere I've never been before since the weather would allow it. The winds are on the low side for today so I decided to make a long run (paddle). Bayou heron MS, is where our morning started, and I am paddling over to Bull Bay Bayou. It's a 6 mile journey one way. Hopefully we are ...
When Fishing, Somedays Are Diamonds And Some Are Stones

Not all of our fishing trips go exactly as we plan. Sometimes tournament settings can put too much pressure on you to do well. Today's video is one such trip. As this day was taking place I felt discouraged since I wasn't catching my target species as I would like to. But when editing the footage I discovered the day wasn't as bad as I remembered and actually had good catches throughout. This f...

Inshore Fishing Unpressured Fish In A Remote Creek
มุมมอง 2193 หลายเดือนก่อน
In today's video we are targeting redfish specifically, but also catch a few flounder. I have paddled about 5 1/2 miles to a small creek system that doesn't get much pressure from boaters or kayakers. The plan is to get 3 upper slot redfish for a small CPR tournament I am in, and hopefully win a few dollars. This trip takes pace on June 15, 2024.

How does the reel do? Do you like it? And how's the drag?
Yea, I like it. It’s an older reel so not as smooth as a modern day reel but I’m happy with it. Older reels were built tougher and that’s what I like about it. Not sure of the drag specs but I suspect it’s about 10lbs.
A great top water crank, ive been using these since the mid 90s
They sure are! Recently found out that Mann’s has gone out of business and sold all of their lure stock to bass pro. If you live near a BPS go check their clearance bins. And they may have some new old stock 1-. Once they are gone I don’t think we will be able to buy anymore new ones.
That the Shimano BFS? I have a Shimano and Kast King BFS tried to warm up to but still prefer spinners for ultra light weight lures in this South TX wind. Great video buddy & good scenery
Yeah it’s the Curado bfs. Having a very limber tip that loads up when you flick the lure is critical for throwing tiny light weight lures. RX Angler and MDLR over your way made their TH-cam names by doing bfs stuff. It’s a lot of fun once you get you’re set up together.
@Eightmile_Drifter yea theyre pretty cool reels. Need to use em more
Fun video! Do you only target panfish when you are wanting to catch food or do you sometimes go out for sport? I ask because I have avoided panfishing because I feel like I need to practice bass fishing every moment I'm on the water.
For the most part if I’m in the kayak I’ll target them to keep. You will catch some occasional bass over 15” and it’s always surprising how the different species will hang together and co exist the way they do. It’s for sure less stressful than bass fishing. Sometimes I get burnt out fishing for the same species, and after a few panfishing or catfishing trips my burnout will go away and I’ll go back to bass or something similar.
Nice video… fun times 👍
Thank you! Oh yeah, I’m missing that warmer weather fishing already haha. Thanks for checking out the video!
Good to see you and your dad out enjoying life. Tell James hey for me. Keep living the dream Jut. 😎
Sure thing, I’ll let him know. Thanks for checking out the video! Maybe we can make a trip one day like the old days.
@ Just no boat dragging with Jabo leading!! “I can hear the water right over this hill “ 😆
@ I still remember that 😂. Was a good time once we got to the water but it was a full time job getting there.
Thanks for the video Loved it that makes me fish hungry
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Those bream sure do taste good!
First
Thanks for watching Braylen!
What is your favorite color Unfair Smacktail?
Motor oil is number 1 and coffee is a close 2nd
@ thank you. They are sold out of coffee. What jigsaw head do you like to use on these?
@ I use the Joe boxer head, I think it’s by VMC or I’ll buy trokar if in a tournament.
Nope! Not in wind like that my friend! That was some pretty scary stuff. That hat cracked me up 😂
Yeah, I regretted my decision when I made it to the cut and the water was rolling through. It was too late by that point. Glad I was in the big rig for the journey back. .. That hat gets a lot of looks. Had some teenagers tell me that I must know how to party 😂
@Eightmile_Drifter LMAO 🤣
You need to get you some Hawk Soap Marsh Romance for the gnats. Someone told me about it last year and it has been a game changer in the Mississippi marsh
Thanks for the tip! I really do need to pick some up. I’ve heard good things just keep forgetting to buy any. Does anyone sell it local?
@ Sea2Swamp but I also order it direct from Hawk Soap. Use it once and you will never leave without it. I have no affiliation with them other than knowing that product works!!!
@@randallcobb4282 I’ll have to give it a shot. Thanks. I’ve used bugging for mosquitoes but the gnats do t care haha
Great day fishing beautiful reds and flounder and oh yeah like the cap
Thank you! It was a good day. Bon secour is a pretty nice area. It’s got me curious if the freshwater fishing would be good way up the river.
Nice work buddy, way to finish strong
Thank you! It was a good weekend with some tough competition!
Have you fished the marshes in ocean springs yet?
I went to mars pier lake a few weeks ago, and the national seashore launch last fall. Recently I’ve been exploring the area around pass Christian.
Wow that was great!
Thank you, it’s a nice fishery over that way. Looking forward to going back.
Rockin’ the propeller hat 👏 Good stuff! Fish on 🎣
Thank you! It’s a fun hat to wear when it windy haha
Nice video 👍
Thank you! Day 2 should drop tomorrow. The fishing was better for me.
Great video. Love the hat!
Thank you! It may be my new windy day hat. It got lots of looks 😂
Made the run to coffee island, very nice. I miss fishing that area. Congrats on the championship finish. Great video buddy.
Thank you, in hind sight maybe I should have fished BLB but it was fun either way. Day 2 was much better for me. It should drop soon.
No sir you are not

@@leoncs3182 Happy Birthday Buddy! I hope evrything is going well for you!
I’m first to comment
Thanks Braylen!
I bought a house boat there a year ago and the fishing is great.
That’s awesome! It’s a great area for sure.
Awesome, always wanted to learn the causeway
Thank you! I’m still learning it also. It’s a lot different than the upper delta. Hoping to make a winter trip up that way and look for trout. Thanks for watching
@@Eightmile_Drifter I live in Spanish fort so I’m a lot close to the causeway than the upper delta. Always been a saltwater fisherman but I’ve just now been getting into bass fishing. Keep up the good work! Looking forward to future videos
@ Thanks for checking out the videos. I bounce around a lot between fresh and salt also. The Mobile Baldwin county areas have a wide variety of water to explore. Hoping to do more causeway soon. Tight lines!
Nice video. Spinnerbait is your friend this time of year on the causeway.
Thank you! I’ve always heard good things about the old Sally spinnerbaits. I may have to go back up there and give it a whirl. Thanks for the tip.
W vid
Thanks Braylen!
Wow....a very different day than I had in that tournament. It was cool to see you catch multiple fish from the same hole. I've never experienced that but you can bet I will try it next time. Great video!
Thanks, Going in I expected to struggle to get 3. They were stacked up around wood and those little creeks. I’m not sure if it was luck or I’ve gotten better since I was there last but I was happy with the day. I want to explore those back creeks more before next year. I bet they may hold some good bream.
Nice fish, …..Ive never have had that kind of luck on the causeway.
@@SouthAlabamaPiper thank you! last time I was up that way was 2018 and I couldn’t buy a bite back then, so I understand that feeling. Even though I didn’t do well in our tournament it was a moral victory for me that I caught several fish. The fish seem to hang in the little creeks with trees and grass. The next trip I’m thinking I may go after bream up that way. Give the ole causeway another shot. I’m glad I had to fish there this year.
Good trip nice red
Thank you, I didn't expect to catch it off of that tree. The fish were very active that day. It makes me want to explore more creek systems when the trout move in good.
Another video? Youre crushin it! You were on em!
Thanks, I’m trying to work through my backlog and post a little more frequently than once a week as long as I can keep it up. Editing can be time consuming as you know haha.
Oh definitely. Well enjoying em brotha. Keep up the great work!
Nice video, looks like a pretty good bait
Thank you, I think the menace Shad will be good once I can locate some decent trout. Finding decent trout consistently is a struggle for me. I hope to do more of that this winter.
Nice day on the water! So I'm wondering, which fish fights harder, a Red or Bowfin? I haven't caught a Red yet, but they seem to thrash a lot at the boat like the Bowfins do.
Reds pull harder and have more stamina but bowfin are meaner and thrash more. Also bowfin are harder to get a good hook in.
Cool video buddy! Is that the Manns baby 1 minus you have tied on that other baitcaster?
Thanks, yes it’s the full size not the baby model. Mann’s is out of business and bass pro bought all of their stock. What’s left is on clearance for $4.98 until it’s gone. Then it will be eBay only for them
@Eightmile_Drifter I heard about that, unfortunate. Such an awesome crankbait.
@ yeah it was, I found a few of their loudmouth 2 Crankbaits in the bin as well. If you run across those snatch them up asap.
Awesome. Some more great casting and catching. Those darn Goo are teasers!! Well done. Man you got that kayak moving at a good clip! Good luck ahead. Cheers.
@@ThePentUpAngler thank you! Yeah those big drum will make you think you have a 10 lb bass on every time.
Yeah I know that bridge and area that’s a long way from home for you 😂😂😂
Yeah, that’s how I feel when I’m driving back from that area every time 😂. It’s a longer drive but a shorter paddle, that part is a plus. The fish make it worth it though. I hope to explore those creeks to the North of the launch pretty soon.
This is Braylen Curtis yoooo
Yooooo Braylen!
Good video. If you notice some spikes in the video analytics it's probably me trying to watch you skip over and over. Impressive! 😮 The few times I've tried it maybe hops once.
Thanks, it’s a chore trying to learn to skip different baits. I ended up settling on that Zman ez tube for all of my soft plastic needs this year. That thing skips effortlessly and the tubes are only $3.99 at bass pro. You just need to find 1/4 oz jigs with a weedguard you like. Skipping will be 10x easier with that jighead in a tube combo.
Awesome video! Thanks
Thank you!
NIce Work!
Thank you!
WHATS A GOOD KAYAK FISJING GROUP TO GET IN WITH? THANKS!
For the Mobile area you have MBKFA and Mobtown. MBKFA is inshore saltwater and Mobtown does the bass fishing side of things. MBKFA has more sponsorship but charges a membership fee to fish their events and Mobtown was free this past season. Both are good clubs to get in.
@ bro, thank you so much for that wealth of info! I sure wouldn’t mind getting into them tournaments! Can you use electric trolling motors?
@@raybrdjr yes, both clubs allow electric motors. Or they did this past year. I know Mobtown will allow them next year and I assume MBKFA will as well. MBKFA is going to a new board of directors but I dont expect much to change as far as motor rules. Mobtown is artificial lures only and MBKFA allows live bait in some tournaments. You’ll need a ketch board if you decide to do any of the tournaments. I recommend practicing taking good fish photos before next year. Making sure the fish’s mouth is fully closed is a big one that gets a lot of new guys.
I love that type of terrain. Especially all the lay-downs and tree canopy. Good video!
Excellent! Good way to spend Good Friday! Beautiful setting and some nice catches. That scenery reminds me of some of the waters I fished when I lived in Virginia. Always great to be out there in those kinds of surroundings. Well done. I think I’m gonna try the traditional spinner bait with a white skirt for some of these redfish. Should work. Good luck ahead! Cheers.
That’s a good idea, I bet it would work. If terminator still made the titanium models that would work out good for inshore.
Looks like a good fishing spot
It is, especially when the delta is flooded in the winter and spring. Launch needs just a little more parking now.
It’s me Leon
Maybe at evangel
Yo Mr j I am bout to be 12 and I want to meet up in person
Hey Leon, maybe I can swing by Evangel one afternoon when you are there. Hope middle school is treating you well!
I enjoy fishing that area. Hope youre getting geared up for that last one in MBKFA. Good luck buddy. Another great video!
Thank you! I'm just going to wing it for that finale. As long as I don't skunk I'll be happy. I'll be rooting for Steve!
Anything's possible out there..... never know what you'll get hit by when messing around pylons on bridges or boathouses. Any where bait fish can hide is prime for the bigger stuff & that's why you are there! You said it was HoT as well which makes shade another great reason to be there. I love seeing the unexpected & Ray of any kind is a catch. They are tougher than fish twice the size but I digress. Fun to see what will come out next. peace
Very true, anything can be around those pylons. Personally I'd love to hook up with a big trout one day while working those docks. That would be a fun fight. Thanks for checking out the video!
@@Eightmile_Drifter Anything is possible, landing it is the key. That's more the story than hooking one. The things that happen trying to get the fish on land. I've fallen in & off boats, all kinds of things trying to land a fish. Thanks for the video
Catching fish left and right on that !!
They are great baits!
