Dougal's Gougal channel.
It's fun to Ogle at!
Dougal is a professional tour guide qualified in the Western Cape of South Africa.
With many years experience in an around the African continent I can relate stories and give advice in many different recreational experiences or activities. My channel also features the experiences enjoyed in some of the most breathtaking parts of Europe and the UK.
Surfing and exploration has been my main focus in the Southern African oceans, plains and mountains.
With so much to choose from and living in such a diverse variety of places or environs there is so much to show off about :-).
From the Indian Ocean's offering at Jeffrey's Bay - the classic kilometre long natural front hand right tubular breaks - all the way to the Atlantic opposite: the long "goofy" left hand breaks off Elands Bay.
The power and thrill of the ride is more than a destination!

Soon to be history. This quiet insignificant little suburb of Hermanus in the Western Cape, formerly fitted out with recreational facilities to challenge any FIRST WORLD suburb, is destined to the deserts of time that progresses relentlessly onward. The unforgiving greed that governs development and rides rough shod over all moral imperatives or sound thinking has taken its python like strangle...

BEAUTIFUL !!! YOU MISSED JAN VAN RIEBEECKS HOME, JUST AS YOU LEAVE SIMONSTOWN... :)
Next time!
Lovely warm water spent many a happy day there..
My wife's Aunt and Unce bought into Paradise Park semi permanent caravan park. They have recently been evicted.
So why were they evicted? Was it because they kept knocking on other people's doors and asking them if they were worrying about the future?
yours are the kind of human stories that otherwise would go completely ignored! while the rich developers just sneer and chime their disdainful excuses.
Big rains will flood that areas
people are currently (TODAY - SUNDAY!) being evicted - the rains - expected this week won't be any kinder to them either.
I'm sure your concern is appreciated however if care had been taken to mitigate such concerns before the big money and developers move in (developers will find the funds to solve problems) these folk would be as safe as anyone else around this lake seen in this video. Money talks.
I thought that was quite a fast walk, it was tough keeping up with you! But then, I'm not a South African. Nice place. Is that where you live now?
hahaha no, I wish - its my cousins family farm and conservancy. But I plan to spend a lot of time there. They're only about 2 hours drive away through open country and great roads, so easy enough to get to for the experience of silence space and nature
Hanna hanna hanna..., warra warra warra....
I pressed google translate button for that and got the following: -"Theft theft theft..., the parents the parents."🤣()
Blue gum, is that actually indigenous to SA? Australian, surely? Re. Developers. Here in UK, it is law that when a new development is planned, at least 10% (I think), has to be "affordable" housing. Of course, this is a relative term, as even these cheaper homes will land the prospective buyer with a hefty mortgage for many years! Your people in the tin kraals and shacks, are they living happy lives there? What facilities do they have compared to the rich folks? I guess they are a bit more off- grid than the barbed- wire and dogs brigade on the other side of the pool. But they probably don't pay any rent or even own the land they built on. So they most likely have no legal rights if some developer wants to kick them out to build millionaire pads. I think your drone movie shows the divide between rich and poor, and Ii agree that the environment is under threat, but surely there is more to this? In a future video, maybe you could introduce us to the people, get their opinions out there. Instead of flying a sneaky drone and moaning about stuff! You cite the local conservationists, well let's meet them. What are their plans and challenges? Come on Doug, knock on a few doors. Keep safe! Nick
Problem is - I speak for those that cannot speak out for fear of their OWN best interests being compromised. I was here visiting dear ("WHITE") friends (yes, there is, sadly, a LOT more poverty among these) who live from hand to mouth. There is no "correct" way to be "poor", un-equalness (not an accepted word yet) is just a 21st century reality. The problem is a universal one - with deep compassion - I noted this among the (politely named "travellers" - formerly known as gypsies) poor europeans too.
Lovely, mate! Bet you're missing the Hedge End Depot morning chorus. Or moaning, more like. Enjoying these videos. Nick.
Not at all, I'm living in the eternal sunshine of the spotless mind :-) and touring as MUCH as possible
THANX FOR THE UPLOAD !!! Just a bit short. :( .... xoxoo
I'll try accommodate your wishes :-)
Wow that beach is beautiful 🎉
👌 wow
I love Scotland
I grew up here. Learnt to surf and dive in these waters
Hey Doug. How are you? Beautiful beach. How come nobody's there? No resort hotels, funfairs, amusement arcades, bars or restaurants in sight! Fantastic! Stay safe mate. Love from sunny Netley. Nick.
Howzit NICK! I'm good bud, hahhaahaaaa... this is why I do Africa, I'm going back to the elements
What a life? 😊
in the FAIREST Cape!☺
Absolutely beautiful 🎉
Awesome video! May I share the link on my airbnb listing?
Yes of course!
Great video my friend, Looks cool in that light 👍👍👍👍
Airbornecharisma ... you have good taste! ;-) and a lovely name!
Most interesting/fascinating…fair prices
Very peaceful and safe
Another brilliant video Doug, nice work🎉
I remember that place, Fir Tree house. A guy shot himself in there a few years ago, so I am told.
Hahaahaaaa Kinda place I'll try and forget then! VIEWERS: DON'T GO THERE! people died!!!! I'm sorry about that.
Thank you for doing this. It looks as tough they are planting fynbos. I lived in Gordon's Bay and it was dangerous to walk along the duned section of the beach - as are large parts of south Africa now.
San Francisco would be worse - the world is in a pickle lets face it, we do what we can to cope.
Brilliant video, very informative 🎉
This is very curious to understand, as an outsider. Pushing a naturally occurring dune system back into the ocean, constructing sand-trap barriers then replanting. Then repeat ad infinitum... Just because there were certain "elements" living in the dunes that made visitors to the beach feel unsafe. All the sand bulldozed into the sea will come back for certain, especially with those high onshore winds. All this pseudo -environmental enhancement looks to me like a trumped-up excuse to evict undesirable (possibly black) squatters from bothering (possibly white) visitors enjoying the beach. Objectively, It would be interesting to know the source of the money to pay for this. In UK, I was for a while involved in a project to replenish sand dunes and we used artificial permeable fences to trap wind- blown sand, and planting Marram grass to consolidate the sand. This thing does not make sense to me, apart from the need to shift the naughty people, it is pointless. Another reason to not come to South Africa.
actually to call this a "white" beach would be completely inaccurate, however there have been (very rarely & over many years) rapes and murders of people on our beaches - no one has mentioned in this discussion (or any other in my presence) their ethnic origins, however, for the greater good of the community I do feel this action - though certainly not "perfect", it is for the greater good of the generally socially free and mixed community. Politics is of no interest to me but economics is handled reasonably well here and the evidence is demonstrated by what I am proud to call "the pleasantly mixed community we live among here in Gordon's Bay." The use of the typical Cape indigenous marine fynbos has been a big credit to the research and insightful development in this area.
Sunny Cape Town 😊😊
Very beautiful looking place. I can see why you love it there. What is keeping the tourists away, post-covid? Is it the murder statistics? I mean, how safe would it be to stay overnight in a van or a tent? Or even hitch-hike in S.A.?
south africans are street smart and generally "don't tempt fate". Generally the population seem to be a more God-fearing and respectful society, especially in the more rural areas. When out and about - if doubt leave it out
That's nothing! Have you never seen the white cliffs of Dover?
often actually - I think Dover is beautiful
and what is your point????????????????????????????????????????
Hi, what drone do you use?
hi there DJI mini 3
Great flyover of the Harbour and frontal cliffs
Thank you for beautiful video.!!!
Hi Doug. That was pretty good. The scenery there is amazing! The distant conurbations along the coast look like mere barnacles clinging on for dear life! The waterworks building is quite handsome, it looks like 1930's art deco. Lovely day here in Netley. All the best. Nick
Glad you enjoyed it buddy. Netley is so pretty in spring
Beautiful video : thanx for sharing !
Wow, That Looks Very Nice!
I often have problems accessing my waterworks, especially if I put my underpants on inside-out.
Hahaa you're crazy Nick! :-)
Looking good- did you re-do? I watched on a different screen - it may have been my screen that made the difference. Keep it up 👍
Yes I did
@@gougaldougal you mention gabions - is that the male version of lesbions? 🤗
Nicely done and very interesting. Have been longing to ride up there again. (your transitions are a tad disturbing to the eye)
Thank you for your input, I will work harder on this in the future
@@gougaldougal I dont know what you use, I use shotcut and use 1.11 for my transitions. Play around with the timing to find what suits you best. Looking forward to your next video 👁️😀
I'll google that - I'm using iMovie
@@gougaldougal shotcut is free and easy to use(relatively speaking) and powerful 👍
I'm going edit and re-publish this I hope you and others will find it easier to watch - but I will be improving my editing in future. Thanks

Great work, thank you kindly‼️🥂 🪖
a shared pleasure is one multiplied ;-)
enjoyably, fitting music ..look forward to next tour.
Whole not of nothing going on. You can walk on a footpath, it's quite safe. Hottentot catchment areas, well, they have to go somewhere. Once you catch them.
🏃 'promo sm'
peaceful, safe pleasant music..see you there 😊
Thanks for visiting
Hi Doug This is good mate! Nick.
thanks Nick, these mountains are my passion! 🤩😍there's nowhere I've shown you here I have not thoroughly walked and wandered
🕹️🛸
Interesting
What spectacular coastal scenery that is.. the drone video is very good, and the music not overpowering. Thanks, me old mate. Nick
Looks like Portugal
So, it's raining then. This is the floodplain is it? Don't knock it! Anyway, glad you are getting some rain at last in S.A. you've waited long enough. Nick.
Doug, the only interesting event in this short voyage is almost at the end, when a man is standing in the middle of the road, holding what looks like a placard, very close to your right as you pass him by without any comment from you. Was his presence such a common event that no mention was merited? Or did you simply not notice him? If it was me driving, I would have said What the hell are you doing there, man! But nothing. Makes me wonder. Nick.
to be honest Nick I kinda got a fright and didn't want to say anything offensive but I suddenly there was somebody standing in the road without any hazard vest in up to 80 kmph traffic, in the rain barely visible and I didn't even notice him until the last few seconds! SCARY!
Oh no! A strawberry fell down! I had to watch it to the end to see the famous traffic lights.
🤣the end is nigh the strawberries are falling
