Saxillo-Music 020 The Creek - Jan Garbarek Cover - played on unique Saxillophone - Wooden Saxophone
Live Studio - one Take
The saxillophone is my own development. It can be played similar to a saxophone. More about it on my videos on this channel: Saxillo-Music.
The body is made of olive wood and was manufactured by Linsey Pollak in Australia. I developed the mechanics myself and had every single key professionally made. I love to practice and perform on this instrument with its unique fine sound.

ralph , where do i buy a good quality tarogato , like the one you play
Lovely composition and great playing on every instrument. very emotional.
Wow - Thank you!
God, i LOVE this sound.
I think the the backing track doesn't do the instrument justice.
Thank you for your comment, but did you listen for more than 2 minutes? There are many more examples to come :))
Is there a CD? I NEED to buy one.
Wow! I have longed for this sound.
Thank you :))
Enjoyed your music. Regarding the Saxillo, because it has a conical bore, does that also mean the fingering is the same for the lowered and higher register? Lovely sound of the Saxillo.
The high octave works from the high E with the same fingerings as the low octave. There is a side key for the high D.
Waiting....
Brilliant! Do you sell? Where can I buy?
Hi, the modifications are all handmade with the help of instrument makers. Unfortunately, I cannot yet offer the Keyed Saxillo in series production at a moderate price. You might find an interesting instrument at Linsey Pollak. His Cylisax, for example. But keep following my channel. If I can offer the saxillophone (keyed Saxillo) for sale at some point, I will post it here.
@@saxophoniker Thank you for replying to me. I will check out Pollak's Cilysax and will be waiting for your mass-produced Saxillo. Meanwhile, you have a new subscriber!
@@sopranomadness894 Wow! Thank you so much!

Welch wundervolles Instrument! Vielen Dank für die Vorstellung ❤

thank you :))

Danke
Maravilhoso
Vielen Dank, Ralf, für diese Video. Das ist ja ein tolles Instrument ! Custom made! Wow!
I'd love to see a write-up from you on the technical differences between your instrument and the tárogató. I'm surprised at the rich sound from an instrument so much smaller. I love your musicianship and taste in performance.
Wow! Thank's for your comment!
Incidentally, there are many differences compared to the Tárogató. The saxillophone is tuned in C and the construction is much simpler. There are only 8 keys. It is much smaller and the decisive factor for me is that it really has a different sound. I think the tárogató is very close to the soprano saxophone, but the saxillophone sounds quieter and softer. The idea is to make a good, small wooden instrument for saxophonists, for the pocket to take along. Quiet enough to jam with guitarists or hang drum players, but still a really nice instrument and not a toy. But I love the Tárogató too!
cool sound instruments 🎉
is there a way to buy one of a kind?
Ralf, I love the saxillophone very much, just wanted to let you know I'm also interested in purchasing one, but also that I'm a mechanical engineer and would be interested in possibly helping you design a more steamlined version that could be produced more cheaply but still be high quality. We would probably want to try to use off the shelf key mechanisms from existing instruments like flute, clarinet or soprano sax if possible to keep cost down and QC up
Hi Sam, thank you very much for your kind message! Of course I am interested in seeing the development continue. Just a few weeks ago we took another step forward, but the development is not yet complete. Of course I'm also looking for people who are familiar with it and can help, but I don't know how we're going to do it at this distance. I live in Germany.
Would absolutely love to buy one if you ever had them produced
Beautiful...
what reed do you use
I love that Tarogato instrument!! Great trio of course! Very nice Thanks for sharing. All the best Mario
Nice sound ❤️❤️ How can i buy one ?
Hi, I would like to develop further, and then, if it is really perfect, have several instruments made. But at the moment everything is still done by hand and expensive. Please just follow me on this channel. When the time comes, I'll make a video about selling it.

Vielen Dank! Grazie mille! Sì, ha davvero un tono piacevolmente morbido. È accordato in C.

couldn't you have the f sharp tone hole a open tone hole and add a ring key over the e and f tone holes which closes the f sharp key which means that the f sharp would have the exact same fingering as a normal saxophone wile having the f and e also fingered the same
Hi Thaddeus, the idea is good but when I try this the F# sounds very silently and dull. As a result, the tone hole becomes too small and lets too little sound through. The F# on the side sounds nice and open and is also pretty easy to play. The saxophone has two large tone holes for F and F#. There is still a lot to explore.
@@saxillomusic2240 ah sad to see it does not work that well but i would rather have a slightly different fingering for a better sound of a note
Hello, would it be possible to buy one with this modifications? Danke!
Hi, thank's for your Interest! It's the first keyed saxillophone in the world - custom made. At the moment I am unfortunately not able to offer several saxillophones at a moderate price. But when the time comes I will of course post it here. So please make sure you are subscribed to the channel, then you will notice.

It's come full circle. The saxophone was originally designed as a wood instrument. They didn't have the technology to make a brass one at the time.
This just isn't true. The saxophone was invented in the 1800s and has always been a metal instrument
@@andersonevitt8523 True, It was invented by Adolphe Sax and even the prototypes were metal. The saxophone was based off a clarinet, but the key difference was that it's brass. Of course there's other differences so don't fuss over that but that all comes with making a new instrument in general. In a way the original comment was right, just that the clarinet was the original wood one, and then sax became the metal one.
wow kling super!
The sound is quite wonderful. It's not nasal or screechy like many soprano saxophones can be. It is in between the soprano and alto saxophone in terms of colour, but warm and sumptuous. Perhaps the thickness of the wood solves many issues that plague soprano saxophones? The range of two chromatic scales is pretty remarkable. Does the choice of wood influence sound characteristics? Which mouthpiece is used - for the clarinet? for the soprano sax?
Thanks for your nice comment! The mouthpiece is a cut clarinet mouthpiece and I think the olive wood has an influence on the beautiful sound.
Diese Klangwärme!
Danke! Das fasziniert mich auch sehr daran.
Beautiful music ❤️❤️👍👍
Nice sound 🎶❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ already subscribed 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Ralf - Toll !

Auto translate isn't very clear--is the clear insert at the end of the bore because the base instrument is sharp on the lowest notes?
No, at the time I was still experimenting a lot, but that was 2018. In the meantime, the saxillophone is much better. Look at this clip: th-cam.com/video/j_G6IiIFQNc/w-d-xo.html
