Everything You Need to Know about the Physics Aptitude Test Oxford
Is Cambridge like this?
Just from what I have heard I can imagine that it would be very similar to Oxford. However I am actually not close to many people there!
We’ve come so far from failing Prelims 😅, hope your part B papers go well :) currently cramming for A3 - second year Univ physicist
Thanks so much! First year seems like such a long way ago for me now. I hope your QM paper goes well and I wish you luck for third year!
good luck!!!!!!!!!!11
Thanks so much!!
I hate oxford administration because they give rhodes scholarships now for filthy rich kids already ..... worst university i think germany is the best place... uk is just a business worst worst!!!!
Oh I hadn't heard of that!
Well done 🎉
Thanks!
❤
♥️
Nice video! I’m a postgrad student at Oxford with a valid Bod card…that should allow me into Christ Church shouldn’t it? Were you able to take your sister in too without paying?
Yes you should be able to get in free of charge! You will also be able to take a certain number of guests free of charge as well. Though I'm not sure exactly how many guests ..
Very good video 🎉❤
Thank you 🤗
are you English or come from a different country my dear?
I am from the UK!

I wish I could just have aesthetic videos of me in the library but I have too much actual work to do :/

Is the ATS just for students?
No it's a public shop! I think mainly students go there though

'Shit, I haven't got time to go to counselling!'
I don't know what this means 😅
@@tis_i_sana'I'm anxious and depressed because of the workload, and I can't go to get help because I've so much work to do!' I suspect this happens a lot, but I'm not implying it's your situation! Best reg.s
Yes I understand your point now! It's common to think you need to power through to be the most productive instead of taking time off studying to get help/recharge. Then it turns into the vicious cycle as you said!
Which country are you basically from?😅
I'm from the UK!
@@tis_i_sana I thought you are Pakistani 🤭
@@tis_i_sana any recommendation for studying medicine there. I m high school graduate.
?
I grew up here in the UK ! I can't give specific advice about applying to Medicine as I haven't experienced that myself. However I know that in your application some things they consider are your A-Level subjects, any volunteering and an exam called the UCAT... If you search on Google 'applying to medical school uk' you can find guides by the British Medical Association and the NHS which will be more specific and more up to date! Hope this helped
Thanks for your honest and brave exposition - I hope the hierarchy will listen and the students will demand change ( as is their right ) to promote a learning culture which engenders balance and inner joy . Stop crucifying the students and love them instead .
Thanks!
She obviously got a PhD in navel gazing

The food looks yum! What did you eat for the rest of the week? 🍜
I mostly ate in hall!
how long does the library stay open?
My college (Queen's) library is open 24/7!
would you recommend starting to prepare for things before the summer? especially if ive got 1 garunteed residential in august and possibly another one in july, so therell be less time in summer than normal. Also ucas stuff ontop of that
How long is your residential in August? I feel as though it would be fine if you start when I started as I also had UCAS amongst other things but I felt that the time I had was enough. If you feel like it will be too much to handle then I guess it can't hurt to slowly start a bit earlier. But be careful not to burn out! You want to be at your peak when you actually do your exam.
@@tis_i_sana 4 days, 19-22nd, also maybe one 14th-17th july or 21st-24th of july if i get accepted for uniq
also yea with burnout i need to make sure I don't just grind out practice papers every day and just do what i feel like doing if im gonna do it in summer
@@tis_i_sana also i think the prep for the maths section will be alright since we finish all of a level maths in a couple weeks and move onto further, gives me a headstart i guess and probably after that the pressure will die down a bit. idk why my college does all of a level maths in half a year for further maths like its just so quick, we just skipped a load of AS stats and a load of AS pure because they were like "you did most of this at gcse"
Ah the residentials aren't too long then! My school had also finished all the A-level maths in time for the PAT but definitely not as early as you have!! Yea I think it's important to not burn out. You can see the schedule I followed in the video for studying as a reference - (mainly started in August). But definitely do what's best for your normal study habits! If you prefer to go slower and steadier and avoid the mental fuzziness/anguish I had then definitely start sooner!
Nice video. Good to see your time in Tokyo. The escalator bit was funny xD
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Sana, I know this is like a year late haha but I've received an offer for medicine at Worcester and I'm not sure whether to take it (kind of for the reasons you said in this video mainly kind of stress and also the choices on the course). The one thing that's kind of stopping me is the tutorial system. Would you say it makes a significant difference to how you learn (and is worth everything else)?
I know some medics in the uni and they find that the tutorial system helps them to actually understand what they are learning. It's a chance to talk to someone who's an expert and can tell you the right things. However one thing to note is that there is a lot of variety on how good tutorials are, depending on the tutors at your college. The tutors at my college for physics are quite bad right now but the medicine ones are great. Also, they can be quite stressful as you do have to prepare an essay for each one, however many of the medics say they find that this helps them retain knowledge that might be relevant to their clinical practice in the future! The fact that you have an offer means that you are capable enough for the style of teaching here. Your life would probably be easier at a different university however, there's a reason why people would choose to study here. The course at oxford is definitely more detailed than at other universities. You spend a lot more time on the theory and science behind the medicine in the first few years than in clinics compared to other unis. There is also an extra year where you undertake medical research. Of course by the end, you'll also have the relevant clinical knowledge. I think the difference is that you have a higher potential of great learning here and if you can utilise that then it will definitely help you in the future. But ultimately I think it depends on the type of person you are and what you're striving for. I hope that helps? Well done on your offer!
This video was great. Keep up the good work 👏
Thank you so much!
I love Oxford. 100% more than London. Everything is sort of walking distance and yiu get ao much to see.
Yes!! I love being able to walk everywhere! London has so much stuff to do but you have to get the tube which is so dirty :/
First year undergrad here. My Michael term was miserable. I worked so hard and barely got any sleep but I feel like I gained close to 0 knowledge about my degree. All of the essays I submitted make no sense, and I found most of the lectures insufferable. I should come back for Hilary Term now , but I have had some personal issues in December (besides being exhausted) and I wasn’t able to revise during vacation for my collections, which are at the end of the week. Nor I was able to get through the reading list for my upcoming tutorials. So probably my first week in HT will be a disaster (fail my collections and my tutorials) and I will get further behind with work. This is my second degree, so suspension for me isn’t really an option. I thought about it a lot and I don’t think its about the subject I am studying also, i think its perhaps that my personal way way of learning is incompatible with oxford’s rhythm and method of teaching. I was thinking of dropping out altogether …
I'm so sorry to hear that but I fully understand your situation. What subject are you doing and what college are you at? You said you worked hard in term. I did the same. I didn't do much over the holidays so I think I won't do well in my collections now. However, I know I learnt the content well in term and so if I revise in the next few months I will be fine for my final exams. Think about your situation. Are you the same as me? Or actually did you think you worked really hard but didn't get much done? So you don't know the content that well? In this case you put a lot of hours in with little productivity. Simply put, not sleeping isn't productive. You need to change the way you work. I think now you need to reset and realign your priorities. Collections won't influence your final degree but your final exams will. * What do you need to do now to do well in your final exams? * Do you need to study differently? Study in a different place? Have study meet-ups with your friends? Can you look at the previous lecturers notes? Other learning resources? Can you ask your peers or someone in the year above for notes? Think about these questions and whether you can do better from now. I found asking my friends for help and people in the year above for notes helped me a lot. Remember the gruelling application process? They thought you would be someone who could do well here but sometimes you just need a bit more support to adjust. Talk to your tutors. I know you said suspending isn't an option so talk to them about what the right option is, how hard you are finding the course. You can also talk to your college welfare officer, the university careers service, the university counselling service for further help. These are all avenues the university has to help you to succeed. Talk to them about: How to study better? What resources are there if the lecturer is bad? Any textbook or old student notes? Talk to them about your personal situation and if they have extra support for that? Talk to them about your career goals. Ask them if your degree is necessary if you already have one? Is dropping out and going somewhere else a better option? Finally, I think after some deliberation you will find if oxford is the right option. Will it benefit you and your life goals or will it kill your ambition? This is your second degree, don't think about the 'Oxford' name, think about the bigger picture. I think you definitely still have time to succeed in your degree so don't just write yourself off as someone who will fail. Have a think about how you can do better from now and what you want to get from your studies here. I wish you all the best. If you have any more questions, I'd be happy to help!

Sometimes I start hating my lecturers and all on a sudden I realize that they were bound to do what we do not like, just for the sake of the system. Watching you from Bangladesh, a physics student from University of Chittagong.
Thank you for sharing your perspective! I think it's normal to feel fustrated at times with our teaching as there always seems to be certain constraints... I'm glad you're watching from Bangladesh. If there are any topics or questions you'd like to see in future videos, let me know. Good luck at the University of Chittagong!
@@tis_i_sana I would like to get your perspective on involving with the extra-curricular activities, especially the student clubs, how much of it should anyone do it, what to avoid, how to balance it with the academic pressure. It would be great if you can share it in your video from a physics students' perspective.
