That was cool to see. Thanks for sharing. So all of those came from one brick?
@@mcintyre2009 yep
I need a bunch of minis from this set but a little worried about the number of weird sci-fi themed ones there are that will probably never get used. Will likely buy a couple of bricks hoping for Phase Spiders and Chuuls but there's so many other cool ones I wouldn't mind getting.
Some crossover sci-fi isn't the worst thing. Can be a fun diversion in a 5E campaign now and again!
13:25 - Sluagh Reaper. Some sort of undead fey soul hunter thing. I would use it as a say, a Ghoul-infected Harpy
@@commanderbbshockwave8698 brilliant idea
Btw, several of these minis have glow in the dark paint - Death coach, both Ghosts, the Combusted, I think the Graveknight (Death Knight) too. You can try out by putting them in the light then checking them in a dark room!
@@commanderbbshockwave8698 they didn’t send the death coach, sadly. I will probably pick it up for when I run Curse of Strahd again someday
Siabre are I think basically undead druids who turned themselves into this to protect a demon-infested land's forests.
Beetle Carapace is exactly what it sounds, yeah. Many underground dwelling necromancers, like Drow, created variant Animate Dead spells so they can animate giant insects and arachnids
You'll probably recognize the Herexen by its proper D&D original name, the Huecuva! Basically Zombie/Mummy type undead heretic/fallen priests with a particular hatred for religion.
Fexts are from slavic mythology - sentient undead with a vulnerability to glass weapons. Paizo likes to add new creatures from various mythologies worldwide. Honestly due to all the bandages, I would say this could make for a good Dark Stalker / Darkling.
Onryo is a creature type, yes. They are from an extraplanar species called Psychopomps, who are basically True Neutral outsiders working for the god of death, Pharasma, and tasked with protecting and judging souls and getting them to their proper afterlife. Most of them are based on japanese and south american myths. The big feathery Dragon, the Yamaraj, is also a Psychopomp, the most powerful type.
Btw, Paizo keeps renaming everything, even creatures that are in the public domain, like Golems. That's why it's "Carrion Construct" or "Flesh Construct" instead of Carrion and Flesh Golems. And yeah, that thing would work nicely as a Mongrelfolk in Ravenloft!
@@commanderbbshockwave8698 When I played PF 1E, I had four of the Bestiaries and there were so many unusual monsters, it was hard to keep up.
Great review as always! I only marginally collect PFB as some of their creatures can be used for D&D (or just look cool), but this is probably the first set Wizkids has released that I plan to buy a brick of, as almost every mini in this is something I would want to have. Regarding the "Skeletal Construct", you are right it is not undead, but you would probably be more familiar with its original D&D name, the Necrophidius! Super creepy magical assassin that can paralyze people with a dance and kill with magic venom, and is totally soundless when it moves. Made by putting a Human skull on a Constrictor Snake skeleton. Of course Paizo cannot call it that due to copyrights, so they renamed it.
Where do u get these nice fir trees?
@@Fx-Lx Monster Fight Club
16:58 - Eldritch Liches were in the 5E Monstrous Manual Appendix for Spelljammer. They are basically Liches who sought immortality from Far Realm powers, and unlike regular Liches they get it not from a phylactery but an alien parasite inside them.
That IS badass
15:10 - Odd that the mini is just called Unicorn. This is a named character from the Beyond the Crystal Cave adventure, her name is Silverlily
@@commanderbbshockwave8698 I reckon that would explain the unique nature of the creature’s appearance
Barkburrs produce druids? I think your friend was pulling your leg. Barkburrs can jump on you, and inject you with a lignification fluid that turns you into a tree - basically like petrification but with wood. EDIT: seems if you leave the person turned to a tree there for too long, they can transform into something else - most often various animals but a roll of 91% means into a 1st level druid, so he was saying the truth. Mind you that would still mean he was a Humanoid originally who got turned into a tree...
I'll look back at the AD&D MM2 and see what it says. Is what you looked up for 5E?
Gibberlings are less mischievous and more murderous land-Piranhas that swarm in huge groups and devour everyone and everything. Fun fact they are based on a Lovecraft story, about a weird netherlands family that due to inbreeding turned into underground cannibalistic monsters.
@@commanderbbshockwave8698 That’s gnarly
Yes, it's pronounced "pec-h", it's a german word meaning bad luck - which miners thought was a result of a curse of the little magic men who lived in mines! The Kobold name and legend comes from Germany too.
Btw, the Derro Raider is actually the Apprentice - based on that artwork. Probably a mistake of labeling on Wizkids' part. And agreed, wish the Rug was larger. It would easily fit on a medium base.
Thanks for the review! So you got a brick, are these from that, or a preview pack? Also I know I am a broken record with this, but can you provide the numbers on the bottom of the minis? That way we collectors can predict the raritiy of each mini. Thanks!
Yes, brick for preview. I'll try to remember the numbers for the next video (after I post the Pathfinder Armies of the Dead preview I already recorded.
@@DanMasucci Thanks a lot dude! For PFB Armies of the Dead we do know the numbers, as a producer from Wizkids posts on Minisgallery who has the authority to tell us, luckily. By the way, if you could also check what the number of the Drider was in Vecna - Eve of Ruin... we now know all the other Uncommons except whether that one is an Uncommon or Rare. People (myself included) are rooting for the Bone Devil to be an Uncommon instead of the Drider...
@@commanderbbshockwave8698 the Drider is 39 out of 40
@@DanMasucci Thanks a lot for the confirmation! That hopefully means then we will have the Bone Devil as an Uncommon, and then we have 10 Medium sized Rare minis in the set, and only two large Rares (the other is 40/40 the Hellwasp, we know from I think GameMasters).
love the set reviews! Helps me decide if i want a case or not. Definitely getting a case of this one.
The villagers are fine, but they should have left the Kuo-Toa and skeletons out of the set and focused on the monsters that feature in the adventure.
The name of the book is "Eve of Ruin" and not Destruction,
@@GustavoNR10 hahahahaha! That’s right. Don’t know why I had that in my head! Maybe I was thinking about GnR’s Appetite for Destruction!
i’m currently saveing up for this
update i got it
That mini's look really great!! 🤯
17:56 - Miska is indeed a Demon Lord, consort to the Queen of Chaos. He has been around since 1E. Nice to see him back and getting a mini!
13:20 - Yeah, Laysa has the assassin stat block and is said to be a retired adventurer, but works well as a pirate. You meet her near one of Acererak's tomb-traps on Oerth, safeguarding some archeologists.
@@commanderbbshockwave8698 Looks like I need to pick up this adventure!
It’s a mixed bag, the separate adventures to get 7 parts are pretty good, especially the Tomb of Lost Souls and the Avernus casino Belvedere, but there is little cohesion between them, and the final battle feels lackluster. They use the same statblock for Vecna as in that 2022 reveal
@@commanderbbshockwave8698 Yeesh
@@DanMasucci Yeah he barely has spells, and just teleports around and stabs you with some magic dagger... which his mini does not even have. They explain it away by saying that focusing on the ritual to remake the universe weakened him.
11:27 - I think you meant Driders, not Dryads... those are fey ladies bound to trees! And yeah, Drow have not been black skinned for quite some time - mostly they are dark grey or even purple now. And I think even as far back as 2E female Drow could be punished by getting turned into Driders - it was more rare, of course. But then again during 3E or 4E they even changed the lore and said such a transformation was a sign of Lolth's favor, not a punishment. Any chance you can tell us what number the Drider was?
@@commanderbbshockwave8698 oof!
@@commanderbbshockwave8698 I’ll have to get back to you on that detail
10:37 - Blazebears are a new creature, but not fiendish in origin, they are from Eberron, the irradiated Mournland, where the last great war with Warforged colossi caused all sort of mutations to occur.
@@commanderbbshockwave8698 Oh sweet! I’ve run four Eberron campaigns since it first came out. Just scored the Dread Metrol campaign guide by Keith Baker.
The Mournland section has you going inside giant Colossi to find some artifact, while hunted by Warforged troops of the Lord of Blades
@@commanderbbshockwave8698 Sounds like it could be lifted and placed in a traditional Eberron game.
@@DanMasucci Yeah, you could easily do that! There is an encounter with some sort of fluidic entity at the end who is the "brain" of the Colossus and wants to be freed from it, that probably works in itself as an adventure.
10:12 - No, of course he is attractive! Just ask any Skesis! ;)
@@commanderbbshockwave8698 fair enough
7:54 - Beware if he starts offering you weird Rubic cubes to solve! :)
5:53 - Heh, indeed, that moon-shaped head and the metallic body does remind me of Zeta from Batman Beyond, or rather the later training droids that we saw on JLU!
4:42 - Merregons have been around since 3E and quite the opposite, not celestials - they are rank and file Devils! They are made from the souls of amoral soldiers. The babyface mask is nailed to their heads (and it is an 5E art invention). We got minis of them in BG - Descent into Avernus before.
3:55 - You have not read the adventure yet? The Star Anglers are encountered in the Spelljammer section of the adventure.
@@commanderbbshockwave8698 Have to score the book and read!
Out of curiosity, you said you got duplicated, and I see there are only 7 Large minis in the review, while there are 8 boosters. Does this meany you got 2 of one of the 7? Also, could you provide the numbers on the bottom of the minis? It'd help in determining the rarity. Though I am guessing Vecna and Tasha are the Rares.
@@commanderbbshockwave8698 one booster had an empty wrapper. Ended up with an extra angry commoner, spine devil, and bearded devil.
Huh so you had a booster without a Large mini? Strange!
@@commanderbbshockwave8698 or a medium. Strange right?
@@DanMasucci Well, there should be 1 Large mini in every booster, that is even in the description of the item for sale, so that is weird. Then again we did have sets like Witchlight and Ravenloft where not every booster had a Large, sometimes it was replaced by 2 Mediums. The empty bag does seem to indicate that yours got lost though.
@@commanderbbshockwave8698 I got a second blazebear so I don’t know what mini I didn’t get
1:05 - That's because they ARE from Barovia! :) They are from the part of the adventure where you try to recover a part of the Rod of Seven Parts from Death House, in Barovia. Needless to say the locals have a less then pleasant welcome with the typical "Adventurers, we don't like your kind here!" as well as the pitchforks, torches and rotten tomatoes. :P
@@commanderbbshockwave8698 Awesome!
Howdy! Not sure how else I can contact you, so I am writing here... I saw on Instagram you got a brick of D&D Icons of the Realms: Vecna: Eve of Ruin minis. Any chance you can do a review video of them? The Minisgallery community would appreciate more info, especially the numbering of the minis, aka which are Commons, Uncommons and Rares! Thanks!
@@commanderbbshockwave8698 haha! Hey there. I’m actually going to make the video this evening and post tonight!
@@DanMasucci Awesome, thanks! Seems a lot of people got this set from Wizkids!
@@commanderbbshockwave8698 I recorded the footage, but it was later than I anticipated. Video upload tomorrow. Thanks for being patient!
This looks absolutely stunning! When I ran this I did an "Evacuation of Dunkirk" kinda thing, it was all theatre of the mind, and was probably the most emotional moment of my short lived campaign. Your setup captures everything so amazingly!
Now I have to watch the Dunkirk film! Some of the best times I ever played was growing up with theater of the mind
Great set up! Thanks for sharing this! Keep em coming!
Amazing setup! Although I play in Greyhawk, Dragonlance was the first campaign world I ran, great setting.
Greyhawk is next, I’m thinking!
08:20 Boil your minis. I'm not joking. They will straighten out. I do it to all of mine. Have ice cold water ready, i used to skip this step but it actually works better with cold water so nowdays i do it. Step 1: Boil water Step 2: Lower a bent mini into the boiling water Step 3: Pick up the boiling mini and fix its pose to perfection. Step 4: Dunk it in ice cold water to "set" the mini in this new shape. This works with Resin figures, WizKids figures, Reaper figures etc. Warning: Do not boil any terrain pieces from WizKids, they are made from a different plastic and will/may shrink! They can still be straightened out if bent, but use close-to-near-boiling water. Test on a piece you are prepared to risk "destroyig" first.
I know. I’m a little lazy on that account! Floppy spear 😭🤣
Nice setup! I bet your players loved it!
I saw your post on Instagram and like the day after this pops up on my YT feed... I love having more context, this looks like it was a blast!!!!
Thanks for watching! I didn’t alter much for this part of the adventure but there are changes coming that I hope you enjoy.
This is amazing. Just found your channel.
Thanks so much!
That hill using your stackers was masterfully done, Dan! And the ruins were a great addition. I also appreciated how you're seeding your big bad guys earlier in the adventure. I've found that helps a lot with buy-in (i.e. hatred) from the players! :D
Best villains are ones with longevity. Payoffs for stories are critical!
Awesome collection, also planning here to run this campaign. Huge fan of Dragonlance since 34 years ago!
It's actually really a solid adventure, but it does need some massaging. How To Be A Great GM here on TH-cam has some excellent advice I'm going to take into my next session this Friday- and beyond. If you haven't seen, I posted a video showing my terrain set up and gave some DM tips last weekend.
@@DanMasucci Also is good idea to use the material published by Dragonlance Nexus, Tasslehoff's Pouches of Everything is vital if you really want the Dragonlance feeling...
Great setup! Love your depiction of Vogler and the Keep. I didn't do a prelude with Ispin, but rather wrote some lengthy background stories that linked each character to Ispin in their pasts, but individually. They all had a strong connection to him but didn't know each other, which always makes for an interesting first session. I ran all three of the prelude encounters and they made short work of all the Draconians (I had to involve the Kapak because they were winning too easily - damn dice!). Broken Silence was very cool and ended up with the Knight and Cleric fully embracing Habbakuk and Paladine respectively, but the Ranger fully rejected Chislev and remains without spells to this day. He loves to RP his disdain for the gods and their role in the Cataclysm. I do find the 5e Draconians rather weak by comparison to their book counterparts, and didn't like how they changed some of their death throes. What I did was to download the wonderful Tasslehoff's Pouches of Everything fan-made DL supplement, which contains tougher stats for all five Draconian types, and more faithfully emulates the ones we know from Chronicles. I've been using the WoTC adventure stats right up until the first appearance of a Bozak, but now that the party has made 5th level, I've switched the Baaz and Kapaks to the newer, tougher versions as a way to simulate their evolution as they Highlord Ariakas continues to perfect the vile process by which Draconians are created. It's been a great way to keep the players on their toes and not get too comfortable. Once they get further along, I'll be 'upgrading' the other types as well. 😁 By the way, are you planning to use the Warriors of Krynn battle game? I've had a mixed experience with it. We ran scenarios 0 and 1 in one session, and two of my players decided they didn't want to continue with it. Me and the other three players that liked it decided we wanted to continue using it due to the element of large-scale engagement that it brings to a campaign focused on a greater war, so now when the book calls for a scenario to be played, I host a session with only part of my group (with the missing characters being played by the players that are present).
Sounds good! Good idea about beefing up draconians at higher levels! I’m not going to use the board game. It would take most of my gamers out of it.
Great job! We are heading into Session 11 of our Dragonlance: SotDQ Campaign. This book needs lots of help (as written), but it has been a good time thus far. Looking forward to more of your content!
Would love to hear tips, since you’ve been in the thick of it
@@DanMasucci I will send you a PM on IG.
