So you wait for the foam to go off before you finish fixing it? What about the Top of the Door Lining, do you just pack under a Leg to level it?? I guess you then need to trim the Foam also, which is a bit of a faff!! I think we need a video of the whole process mate, just for clarity👍👍 Thanks for sharing.
If u want to be really clever you can add 2 holes for the handle bolts makes the final so much faster.
2m level is a game changer
Very good
Perhaps do the bottom hinge first and work up. Would keep any dust going into the cuttings below.
Too slow
Hi Have you a link to purchase this in the UK. Can’t find it anywhere.
@@michaelcampbell3733 hi mate thanks for your message , there is a new version of this square and you can find it at www.roofingsquare.co.uk
Great jig indeed unreal
What a good jig - love it ! Thanks for making and posting this video
I pre drill the jambs and use screws (not fully threaded) and packers or wedges. Horns cut flush, tight to the frame on the hinge side, and use the laser to plumb the jambs, with the corners braced square and the jambs braced in two places. Works a treat. When in comes to the doors, if you hold the door shut against the corner of the jamb, trace up up with a sharp pencil, and then cut on the off-side of that mark with your circ saw, you’ll have a 2 mm gap (width or ‘kerf’ of your blade). One pass with the electric planer to neaten it up and make it a 2.5mm gap, take the arris off and a quick sand, and Robert’s your mother’s brother 👍
I use screws to level and pack same idea tho mate 👍
Nice work..
Banging little tip mate
Thanks 👍
Superb ❤
Will that jig work on a rebated door frame?
No it won’t , the jig needs to hard to the frame , you can make them for rebated frames , the jig needs to be the same depth as the rebate ,
@@Skilledcarpenter Please i can you help with some more details for a rebated frame. I not too clear as to the jig being the same depth as the rebate. I Have a small woodshop in Ghana and i have to create Hinge recess for 40 no rebated frames
* can you help
@@mikeamui6578 il put up a video later to explain for you
@@Skilledcarpenter Thanks so much
Ur welcome 👍
Brilliant that’s the simplest layout I have seen nice one 👌
Good idea would it be better to use screws easier to adjust
Smart thinking
awesome mate keep posting your videos you are helping a lot of younger tradies to perform good work including me!! thanks mate
Brilliant idea! You might of just saved me from a breakdown,😀👍
Your welcome 👍👍
one pin top and bottom of each lining leg.....rout out the door and attach hinges to it using jig.....rout out lining......screw door on.......pin lining to suit the door using a bar/wedges as necessary. 15 minutes lining fixed and door ready to latch up. .
Put the video up 😉
@@Skilledcarpenter i'm ok thanks. I described how i do it.
@@stevehallam6495 fair enough 👍
@@stevehallam6495describing it is one thing, executing it is another, go on put a video up 😂
@@dannym670 you are correct but videoing yourself working is not my style, best left to the egos.
Anyway to calculate the rafter without calculation?
Hi yes there is , plenty of free apps online , you just tap in 1/2 span of building , the pitch you need and the app will work out your rafter lengths for you , there is an app for everything now 😀
Veey good ❤❤❤
Mate ! That’s really smart! Cheers
I would like to know more about the square that you're using can you give me the brand thank you
Hi robin , I designed and had the square manufactured , I’ve been designing tools and selling them for a few years now , this particular square is a upgrade from the last batch of squares I was previously selling , I’m a very small Buissiness so not well known , I’m a carpenter by trade so this square as been fully tested on site work and compared with many other squares that are available , I wanted to design something that was simple to use and make cutting roof rafters easy but also be good for marking and cutting other stuff like cladding Hope that helps here’s a link to my website www.roofingsquare.co.uk Thanks for enquiring regards Tony
An adjustable quick square is plenty good enough, it'll do everything that you need it to do and at a quarter of the price 👍
@@dannym670 it’s a another option , there are plenty of these better made squares on the market now and more expensive than the one I sell , 👍
@@Skilledcarpenter that wasn't meant to come across like it may of sounded, I'm sure it is as good as it looks, I was just saying 👍
@@dannym670 hi mate I understand what your saying no offence taken , I can never understand why some chippies I know spend £350 on a hammer
Thanks for commenting it’s on my channel page www.roofingsquare.co.uk
Interesting gizmo. As with the other comment, you should put a link to your website to make it easier to find where the product is available. Thanks for sharing.
You should put link on mate, cant seem to find your website
Like the vest, bought one myself back in march, back and hips are far less painful now. Oh..nice square, might have to snag one
Thanks the work vest is brilliant , so comfortable you don’t realize you have it on
Hack
ACDC, fantastic
Yeah I like that Tony. Very nice.
Thanks 👍
Hi mate I’m in the garden making one now. How wide do you cut them 100mm 150mm ?
I’d go 120/130 but it don’t really matter to be honest , glad your using the idea of making your own jig , 👍
Great jig mate cos it's mdf it follows the frame to the mm unlike stiff jigs like trend great chippy mate people should take note of this for speed and accuracy
Thank you 👍
I'm in Canada; where can I get one of these?
Thanks for your comment , the tool is sold out , but there is a new version coming very soon , I will keep you in the loop 👍
Thank you sir; do you have a link I can keep an eye on?@@Skilledcarpenter
@@wallacetait9916 we are in the process of building a new website too, so no link available at the moment sorry , hopefully up and running by end of feb/early March
Nooice!
Good video mate
I put a few wedges in and use one or two bracing pieces at Middle and Bottom then squirt expanding foam . Job done!
Most regular pricework 2nd fixers make these. Now I'm mostly doing the odd door i bought a trend jig but it's never as accurate, there can always be a hairline you don't see until you rout. This is always a better option on new builds.
Thanks for your comment , I never realised that trend jigs were not very accurate , as I’ve never owned any kind of mass produced jig , that want too much money for the things , and it’s another piece of kit you have to look after , not the case with a piece of mdf it’s easily replaced 👍
@@Skilledcarpenter If you're doing the odd few refurb doors it's handy and quick. Don't get me wrong it can be accurate but it can also slip if not watched and the bradawls aren't as secure as the screws in MDF jigs. There's no telling someone who's always used the trend that though but I know about both. And both have their own place.
Do mine with a jig exactly the same way, but i find drilling out the doors first front and side is easier, each to there own, as long as the end result is the same doesn't matter. I route the keeps out with a home made jig also 👍
Good idea, i consider myself pretty quick so i don't know if it would save me any time as such but it definitely looks easier and im all up for an easier life! When i pre drill my linings i mark them as 100mm down and 700mm down and 100 up 700 up if that makes sense, so the only thing I would do differently is tack in 4 nails rather than 3 roughly where the screws go so it doesn't pull the lining in. I do like using plastic packers though as it makes your linings solid. Great tip, im gonna give it a go though just to see 👍
Thank you for explaining, I could not figure correct position before watching this video.
👍your welcome
You guys dont use prehung doors?.....door is already hanging on jamb and it installs as one unit?
We do it the traditional way on most good quality new builds
Hi, this is exactly what I need to do. What Dremel attachment did you use? Thanks!
The metal cutting disc s 👍
@@SkilledcarpenterDo you know the diameter of the disk? I need to cut off a spindle which is glued into the mechanism. Cheers
Noisy background noises
Good idea, but you ain’t got time for all this if your on price
Depends on what price your getting 👍
Any chance of purchasing this square in the usa?

The link to buy the square from ebay is above , alternatively you can buy direct from me , if you want to contact me via email it’s roofingsquareuk@gmail.com
Try Dan coxes ultimate roofing square its better than this one
@SJWardBuilders have you tried this one ??
No but id like to if you could send one into Skill builder we can do a roofing square comparison!@@Skilledcarpenter
I'm the guy from Michigan, USA that Tony mentioned as a purchaser. I own several roofing squares (3 from the UK) largely because I like good tools. Tony's square has worked well for me and has one feature that Dan Cox's doesn't. You can reverse the square once an angle is set and get a complementary angle along with its right angle. You can't do that with Dan's square or even a t- bevel. It's also extremely portable given its compact size. Better depends on the evaluator. It also depends on what your use is. If you're on a job site where people are looking for a quick 5 finger discount, Dan's square would be a theft target. Tony's square just looks like any other and might get passed by. Is that better or worse? @@SJWardBuilders
Nice one 👍
Thanks 👍
Excellent jig .... i make mine by sitting the mdf on edge on the mitre saw setting the trench depth as you like and then nibbling along until hinge width , careful last cut ! You can finish the depth with a fence on any router. Corners don't matter While you are set up make 2 at once (obvs one with the top gap offset)... or make 3... good for setting door pairs in a lining with a laser or simply for a spare
You should make some jigs out of ABS plastic and sell them mate.
I have thought about that , but the market for hinge jigs is flooded 👍
