    Great video Tony, I have never really understood why carpenters buy hinge jigs. Top work mate 👏👏

    Perhaps do the bottom hinge first and work up. Would keep any dust going into the cuttings below.

    Very good. Cut a 3mm notch on the top of the jig so you dont need to put the hinge up. Then you know where to fix the jig on the door and lining.

    Most regular pricework 2nd fixers make these. Now I'm mostly doing the odd door i bought a trend jig but it's never as accurate, there can always be a hairline you don't see until you rout. This is always a better option on new builds.

      Thanks for your comment , I never realised that trend jigs were not very accurate , as I’ve never owned any kind of mass produced jig , that want too much money for the things , and it’s another piece of kit you have to look after , not the case with a piece of mdf it’s easily replaced 👍

      @@Skilledcarpenter If you're doing the odd few refurb doors it's handy and quick. Don't get me wrong it can be accurate but it can also slip if not watched and the bradawls aren't as secure as the screws in MDF jigs. There's no telling someone who's always used the trend that though but I know about both. And both have their own place.

    Great jig mate cos it's mdf it follows the frame to the mm unlike stiff jigs like trend great chippy mate people should take note of this for speed and accuracy

    Good video tony mate.. I make my own jigs for the latches and keeps etc.. save the money .. make the money 👍🏻

    Excellent jig .... i make mine by sitting the mdf on edge on the mitre saw setting the trench depth as you like and then nibbling along until hinge width , careful last cut !
    You can finish the depth with a fence on any router. Corners don't matter
    While you are set up make 2 at once (obvs one with the top gap offset)... or make 3... good for setting door pairs in a lining with a laser or simply for a spare

    I recently brought my first router after years of doing them by hand and spent the time to make a few little jigs for 4inch and 3inch hinges and was blown away how quick and accurately I was getting doors swung, do you have any jigs for latches/keeps surely it's just as quick by hand

      There is a video for tube latches and bathlatches , I generally mark my keeps with a pencil then free hand with the router near the lines and finish off with a sharp chisel , thanks for your comment 👍

    Hi mate I’m in the garden making one now. How wide do you cut them 100mm 150mm ?

    • @Skilledcarpenter
      @Skilledcarpenter  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’d go 120/130 but it don’t really matter to be honest , glad your using the idea of making your own jig , 👍

    Will that jig work on a rebated door frame?

    • @Skilledcarpenter
      @Skilledcarpenter  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No it won’t , the jig needs to hard to the frame , you can make them for rebated frames , the jig needs to be the same depth as the rebate ,

      @@Skilledcarpenter Please i can you help with some more details for a rebated frame. I not too clear as to the jig being the same depth as the rebate. I Have a small woodshop in Ghana and i have to create Hinge recess for 40 no rebated frames

      Hi mate I’m not doing much 2 nd fix at the moment , so won’t get a chance to make up a another jig for a while , there’s plenty of great content on other channels for making hinge jigs

  • @thetruth6693

    You should make some jigs out of ABS plastic and sell them mate.

      I have thought about that , but the market for hinge jigs is flooded 👍
