      For your information, the B57 has a closed deck because the block is exactly the same as the M3's engine. Which means it has to be extremely strong. We have a G30 530D with the B57. It is a gem. It has massive amounts of torque and power which is why it doesn't have VANOS, it simply doesn't need it. You also mentioned Valvetronic. It is irrelevant here. Given the operation of a Diesel engine, Valvetronic is not applicable to begin with. Finally I am not sure what you are referring to when saying: "Ignition system". Again, this is a Diesel??..

    Nice content, i like the short and summarising engine descriptions. I also appreciate that you go with your own human voice, the recent inflationary use of ai voices in youtube-videos is really annoying me a lot, so thanks for the decision to speak your blog texts on your own. As the Mercedes inline-five dieel engines were way more important for Mercedes as well as for diesel engines in passenger cars at all, it would be great to get a similar video / blog article on those as well. Me now following, greetings from Germany. 😊

    Thanks for the video. I really can't understand BMW's reasons for building these engines. Having rebuilt several of them across the range, I have never seen such an overcomplicated setup in my life. Yes, they are powerful, but once they are over 80000km, they become a money pit.

    M177 (LS1) owner here. Extremely stout engine. Biggest issues are coil packs getting eaten from heat. And the packaging makes everything harder to access. But Mercedes’ version seems to be the most robust out of the S63/TFSI V8TT variants. It doesn’t have the oil leak pain-points or rod bearing failures of the S63 (see FCP Euro teardown), nor the cooling/water pump issues of the TFSI. For example, check out Nurburgring videos of RS7s, they cannot keep oil temps down! Mercs (c63, e63, gt, etc.) have 2 additional aux coolers behind the front bumper.

    Great article and video. I'll add that on my 1989 Porsche Carrera 3.2 came from the factory with Alusil cylinders. I read that some bound for the US only came with it, but I can at attest at least one 930/25 was certain to have it. In 122,500 miles it held up pretty good with normal wear when I tore the engine down. Other engine components gave up faster. When I rebuilt I did replace them with a new Mahle Nikasil piston and cylinder kit.

    A few subtle differences worth mentioning about the whole Automatica vs DuoSelect: Duo has the transmission mounted as a transaxle, meaning it's not directly behind the engine, unlike the Automatica. Therefore it has slightly better weight distribution and is even slightly lighter than Automatica; They have vastly different gear ratios, with the Duo being a close-ratio gearbox. The Automatica is so wide-ratio (as any vehicle equipped with a ZF 6HP) it never reaches 6th gear for top speed, where the Duo uses all of it's 6 forwards gears, better maintaining the engine at high revs (which is where the power is at). This also means the Automatica is quieter on highway, too; Duo has a manual handbrake, while Automatica has electronic parking brake (as the whole center console has been redesigned... Actually, great part of the car has been); And last but not least, EVERY DUO has paddle shifters (You pull both to put it in neutral), same cannot be said about Automatica. I believe it was an option on the base/Executive GT, but standard on S/ Sport GT/ Sport GT S, but can't confirm. Also, little quirk: Since the DuoSelect is a manual transmission mechanically speaking, there is no "Parking" mode.

    J’ai une sport de 2012. Vraiment très bien et fiable. Mais le vinyl et les plastiques sont vraiment de très mauvais qualité. J’ai du refaire la garniture des portes en cuir et carbone ainsi que divers trucs. Sinon toujours un plaisir de prendre son volant. Et c’est mon daily 😊

    I‘m owning a GranTursimo MY 2018 with all the beloved Features like the TouchScreen Nav System, Rear Camera and of cause the hexagonal Grill, whitch i love. It is much more modern and a bit wider than the old oval Grill.

    BMW S63B44T4 owner here. The engine doesn’t have rear timing chain. It’s in the front. On the point about valvetronic. We went from single throttle body to dual per-bank throttle body to individual throttle body(ITB) for a reason. Air Intake efficiency. Valvetronic takes it a step further to individual port throttle body hence why it’s the most efficient air intake system in the world. It has throttle bodies for each bank but they’re always fully open and used only as a fail safe.

    Go learn about the stats. Ea824 are more reliable than n63. Less types of issues.

      This, the only issue was that silly oil feed filter which obviously kills the turbo and possibly the engine, but thats easily removed/updated

      Well they are now, Ea824 was used until 2019, now all the V8TT in Audi Rs6/7 S8/Lambo Urus/SQ7/SQ8/Bentley Bentayga, Cayenne & Panamera are all the Ea825

    Where’s the XJ-S ? A 21 year production run and out sold the E-Type. 1984 European touring cars championship winner and the 1985 Bathurst 1000 winner. I would say that’s an iconic Jaguar.

    I have ABC and yes it’s complex and expensive but it works extremely well and in my 5 year s600 ownership has never let me down apart from standard maintenance items.

    I always deactivate the start/stop feature. I started this practice on my F02 N63TU equipped vehicle and now on my N74TU equipped G12.
