CHD and Me

My day with an ECG tape and heart rate test
So I had to wear an ECG tape for the day and I did a quick and very un-scientific heart rate experiment.
Also includes a small rant, only for two minutes though!

I hope that through this channel I can help to raise awareness and answer a few questions about what it means to have a congenital heart defect or to know someone with a CHD.
Hey there fellow CHD heart warrior!!! I just had a very similar night, which was quite scary. I have been dealing with tachycardia as one of my defects, been years on beta blockers but it was my first time with atrial flutters. It was quite a scary night. Anyway, great to meet someone else who has experienced something I have. Come on over to my new channel if you want to hear my story!! Happy trails!!
I have A-fib, which caused a mini stroke about 10 years ago. I also have SVT, which is usually about 250 beats per minute (NOT comfortable!). I've been electrically cardioverted twice (usually a fast acting IV medicine called Adenosine works, but when it doesn't, I gotta get shocked). Cardioversion isn't so bad if they do it right...once I didn't even realize they did it, the other time it literally left burn marks on my chest! (that time they used the manual paddles, not the big sticky pad electrodes)
You could have checked your HR manually haha! I get to 160 after intense exercise, 100 for a brisk walk. I'd say we're major, you're even more complex than me now. And organs, our livers might get sad over time as we're univentriclar and the LV is a super work horse!
Thanks Elspeth there's no mountains round here but there are a few fields I could cross. My range is 2-3 with a target of 2.5. One vlog a week sounds manageable with discussion videos as the main part of the channel. I'm hoping with the wristbands it won't be boring wearing them each day. Hmm why get a boring old step counter when you can get a pokécounter?!
How funny, same range and target as me but you take way higher dosage, I'm like 4.5 and 5. Never been more than 5 mg. Well to be fair it was part of a Pokémon game (Heart Gold I believe) but very handy for training up when I played it!
Haha, this made me laugh. Guaranteed watcher here, hopefully it will be a good thing if you get out and about more! I tried to climb up Pen Y Fan the other day (tallest peak in South Wales and 886 metres above sea-level). It was heaving with people and I gave up halfway up, it really was just going uphill constantly! Crossed the road to the non-mountain side and had a good old ramble through marsh and fields with horses, streams and sheep instead. You're more organised than me with my warfarin, I have a whole drawer full of all colours including the white ones. Far more than I need of all of them and scattered messily. That seems to be a pretty high dose that you're taking, do you have a high range? Still, way better than taking masses of different types of drugs. I also had an ID thing as a child, I 'lost' it because I though it was hideous. My Dad got me a dog tag one which was way too long and super uncool. Perhaps a coloured bracelet is a good way to go. I'd say an everyday vlog would be way intense but perhaps every week would be more manageable or every two weeks if nothing is happening or you have other stuff you are talking about. A pedometer and a challenge could be interesting. I had a Pokéwalker (ahem) which I lost but I'd surely join in. Depending on your job though you would likely beat me on a day to day basis. Look forward to seeing some more!
Also is it pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum as in your diagram? I have this too and am curious if you have other things or just this. I've just got this so also lucky! A fuller video (or it would have to be videos!) on getting onto warfarin and general background to your story would be very interesting.
It is pa with ivs like in the image. And luckily it's all I've got! I don't really know much of my warfrain background except that I've been on it since I was born with my parents having to dissolve it in baby food haha. In terms of background I will talk more about that in later videos. thank you for your support!
Look forward to your upcoming videos. Things that would be good to see would be reactions from new people entering your life as well as how friends and family cope. Otherwise 'A Day in the Life' of yourself showing normality. Also interested in life events like turning 18 and being allowed to drink! Lastly what you do for activities, exercise, fun etc.
