STUNNING HAND TOOL RESTORATION 1950s Stanley Hand Tool No. 5 Jack Plane model C559MP
Hello Gang! Welcome to Restoration video number 20! Hard to believe it, but I'm still here making videos.
This one was rough. When I saw it at the antique mall I thought "That'll make a great restoration project!" Sure there was a little rust on the bare metal and the paint was bad but nothing some citric acid couldn't handle. Boy was I wrong.
The citric acid got rid of the surface rust but only revealed the bigger problem. All of the bare metal surfaces on the iron body were badly pitted.
Not one to shy away from a challenge, I got to work with the 60 grit paper and a sanding block. I sanded. And sanded. And sanded. It went on for hours. It went on until the sweat poured down my face and back and ran into unmentionable parts of my body. I sanded until my arms were jello. I kept sanding. I decided it wasn't worth it and took all my lights down and quit, shoving all of the pieces of the disassembled vice into a box and throwing the box under my workbench.
Two days later I decided I HAD TO FINISH THIS THING! I set everything back up and continued. All told there was 10 hours of sanding on this iron to get it to where you see in the video. It was terrible. It almost made me quit. I persevered however and the payoff was a beautiful hand plane!
Enjoy the restoration!

COMBINATION SQUARE RESTORE! AMAZING Early 1900's Starrett Copy Combination Square Total Restoration.
มุมมอง 13K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Hello! Welcome to another episode of Restore This! Today I am restoring an early 1900's copy of a Starrett combination square. This came in a box of tools I got from an estate sale. It was super rusty, missing it's bubble level and the blade didn't slide in the head. I start off by taking this rusty hand tool apart and soaking it's parts in a citric acid bath. Next, the parts are wire brushed a...

VINTAGE SKS RIFLE RESTORATION! 1957 SKS Rifle Caked in Cosmoline Brought Back to it's Former Glory!
มุมมอง 86K4 ปีที่แล้ว
In today's video I take on the dreaded scourge of the surplus firearms world... cosmoline! Seriously if you have any interest in vintage surplus firearms you've surely come across this stuff. It's a preservative applied (quite liberally I must say) to many firearms and other pieces of military equipment as a rust barrier. When fresh or warmed up it has the consistency of Vaseline. However over ...
ANTIQUE FAN RESTORATION - 1940 Delco Appliance Corp. Model 1500 Desk Fan Restoration
มุมมอง 2.5K4 ปีที่แล้ว
After the success of my GE fan restoration in an earlier video, my fiance decided she wanted a fan for her office. I got this Delco Appliance Corp. Model 1500 desk fan on eBay for a good price. It was a little rough looking and obviously was untested due to the state of the cord and missing the plug, but I took a chance on it! Buying an Antique fan can be a toss of the dice. Especially if they ...
VISE RESTORATION - Broken and Incomplete Machine Vise Given New Life! Broken Jaw, Missing Jaw Plate
มุมมอง 7054 ปีที่แล้ว
Hello Again, This machine vise restoration comes to you courtesy of a lot of items I purchased from a fella off off of Craigslist. I was mainly interested in another vise that I'll be restoring in a separate video, but I have the need for this little guy on my drill press so I wanted to get it fixed up for use! This think looks OK in the thumbnail shot, if not just a little rusty, but it's far ...
VINTAGE RESTORATION! 1950s Hazardous Conditions 287EX Big Beam Lantern Restoration U-C Light Mfg Co
มุมมอง 3.2K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Don't call it a flashlight! This vintage 1950s era Teledyne/U-C Light Mfg Co. model 287EX is a 'hand lantern' per its creator. These vintage flashlights or hand lanterns was manufactured by U-C Light Mfg. Co. for Teledyne Industries and would have been used in environments where there was oil, gas, or other chemicals that would have reacted with steel or chrome and corroded them quickly. As a r...

1940s Thor Power Tool Company Model 5041 Electric Hand Drill Restoration! Antique Tool Restored!
มุมมอง 3.8K4 ปีที่แล้ว
WOW! This was a really cool restoration that was months in the making. I tend to spend time cruising eBay and Craigslist looking for fun or interesting items to restore. I came across the 1940s Thor Power Tool Company model 5041 power hand drill and I was captivated! It looked like a space blaster from an old sci-fi movie or a weapon from a dystopian wasteland video game that I enjoy (which I w...
1900 REX RIVET PRESS RESTORATION - H.F. SMITH MFG Co. Antique Tool Restoration - BETTER THAN NEW!!!
มุมมอง 4.8K4 ปีที่แล้ว
I picked up this antique riveting press off of eBay and thought it would be a great candidate for an antique tool restoration video! It was rusty, had chipped paint and was partially seized so I knew I had my work cut out for me! There are tons of these rusty rivet presses out there. They're pretty inexpensive and can be a great addition to your shop for a number of purposes. They are construct...

Hello Everyone! First I want to thank all of my subscribers! You are awesome! After my last video I made it to 100 subscribers! Thank you so much! Today I have an antique fan restoration video for you! It's a 1930's GE Oscillating desk fan that I found on eBay for cheap. I really took a gamble on this one. ANTIQUE SCALE RESTORATION! Landers Frary & Clark Kitchen Scale from 1907! AMAZING TOOL RESTORATION!

This is a really cool antique Columbia Family Scale kitchen scale that was made by Landers Frary & Clark out of New Britain, CT. around 1907. The Landers Frary & Clark Company made thousands of different household products from 1865 to 1965 when it was sold to GE. Many of their house wares were sold under the 'Universal' moniker. This line was later bought from GE by another company called Univ...
ANTIQUE TOOL RESTORATION - Early 1900's V and M Hand Crank Bench Grinder.

I wanted to do this restoration a little different than my restorations so far. I tried to keep this one somewhat original. I didn't modify it like i usu...

Yup, that's a nice way to ruin a solid milsurp rifle right there. Just utterly destroy the history by sanding the stock for no reason and stripping off original blueing. But hey keep it up as it makes my originals worth more

Please do not use gloves when using rotating power tools. It's very easy for the glove to get caught and pulled into the power tool. I would much rather have a scrape on my finger than loose my hand.

For anybody doing this at home, you can save A LOT of time effort, and cleaning solution by boiling the small parts in water, like the trigger, bolt, bolt carrier etc. No cleaning solution or sandpaper necessary, just hot water. Shake them around to release the cosmoline into the water, and boil multiple times if necessary Be sure to dump the waste water into a gravel pit somewhere that no plants are growing, do not pour down your sink!!

    • @RestoreThis
      @RestoreThis 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

This rifle is a bit of a mutt. My understanding is that the Albanian SKS rifles had two holes in the butt plate and stock.

Great Fun, Damian. I have the identical Sander, except it's American brand Model 10-00. Craftsman must have bought them out. Several people were wondering how to change the paper. Like mine, they must not have the slots on the end of the roller grabbers. Mine has 7/64" allen fittings on the ends... which are a bit stripped. That may be why Craftsman switched to slots on the end when they bought out American, I'm guessing. Mine also have just a nipple for oiling under the handle.

Wonder what the hole on the side of the bottom plate is for. Looks like you can stick something in there and adjust the dual action somehow.
