Is Christmas PAGAN? And Should YOU Celebrate It?
Answering The Question: Is It Bad To Celebrate Christmas? Doesn't It Have Pagan Roots?
----
Is Christmas a Pagan Holiday and Should We Celebrate It?
Ever wondered about the origins of Christmas traditions like decorating trees, exchanging gifts, and singing carols? Critics often argue that Christmas borrows from pagan festivals like Saturnalia and Sol Invictus. But does that mean Christmas is inherently pagan? Let’s uncover the truth behind this beloved holiday and why its true meaning is worth celebrating.
The Ancient Roots of Christmas
In ancient Rome, mid-December marked Saturnalia, a festival of light, feasting, and gift-giving. December 25th also celebrated Sol Invictus, the “Unconquered Sun.” While these events share surface similarities with Christmas, they were transformed when Christianity spread. Early Christians reframed these dates, not to copy paganism but to redeem it, choosing December 25th to honor Jesus Christ-the true Light of the World.
The Transition to Christianity
When the Roman Empire embraced Christianity, ancient traditions were given new meaning. Feasting, gift-giving, and celebration were no longer about pagan gods but about the joy of Christ’s birth. This act of transformation highlights how God redeems cultural practices for His glory.
Debunking the Pagan Myth
Just because something has a pagan past doesn’t make it inherently pagan today. Wedding rings, for example, originated in pagan cultures but now symbolize eternal love. Similarly, Christmas traditions have been redefined to reflect Christ-centered joy and generosity. The Bible supports this approach, as seen in 1 Corinthians 9:22, where Paul embraced cultural practices to lead people to Christ.
Christmas Through the Ages
Over the centuries, Christmas became deeply rooted in Christian faith, celebrated through nativity plays, hymns, and church traditions. Even during the Protestant Reformation, when some criticized its origins, many Christians upheld Christmas as a time to celebrate God’s love and the hope found in Jesus.
Modern Traditions and Their Meaning
Christmas trees symbolize eternal life, and Santa Claus, inspired by St. Nicholas, reflects generosity. These traditions, far from being pagan, are cultural expressions pointing to joy and hope.
Why Christians Should Celebrate Christmas
It Glorifies Christ: Christmas celebrates God becoming flesh to save humanity.
It’s an Evangelistic Opportunity: The season naturally invites gospel conversations.
It Redeems Culture: Christmas exemplifies God’s ability to transform and renew.
Addressing Concerns
For those uneasy about Christmas, Romans 14:5 encourages freedom in how we regard specific days. What matters most is keeping Christ at the center of the celebration.
Conclusion
Christmas is a story of light overcoming darkness-a reflection of God’s love for humanity. It’s a celebration of Jesus’ birth and a powerful testimony of redemption. Whether you sing carols or exchange gifts, let your celebration reflect the hope and joy of Christ.

Title: Ethical and Moral Differences between Islamic and Conventional Finance. Islamic finance and conventional finance are two distinct systems that differ fundamentally in their principles, practices, and ethical frameworks. Key differences: 1. Source of Authority: Divine vs. Human Reasoning Islamic Finance: Rooted in the Quran, Hadith, and Shariah law, which offer divine guidance on justice, ethics, and financial transactions. The ultimate source of authority is Allah, whose principles are unchanging and universal. The Quran states, "Indeed, this Quran guides to that which is most suitable..." (Surah Al-Isra, 17:9). Conventional Finance: Governed by human reasoning, legal frameworks, and economic theories. These laws evolve based on societal needs, political ideologies, and market conditions. 2. Interest (Riba): Prohibition vs. Acceptance Islamic Finance: The Quran explicitly prohibits riba (interest), which is seen as exploitative and unjust. Quran 2:275 condemns riba, stating, " Those who consume interest will stand ˹on Judgment Day˺ ...Allah has permitted trading and forbidden interest." Conventional Finance: Interest is central, with financial transactions involving the charging or earning of interest on loans and savings, which is accepted as a standard practice. 3. Risk Sharing vs. Risk Transfer Islamic Finance: Emphasizes risk-sharing, with financial contracts structured to ensure that both parties share the risk and reward. In the Mudarabah (profit-sharing) and Musharakah (joint venture) models, both partners share profits and losses based on their contribution. The Quran encourages cooperation and partnership: "...and cooperate in righteousness and piety..." (Quran 5:2). Conventional Finance: Involves risk transfer, where the borrower assumes the debt, and the lender charges interest to compensate for the risk, which is often transferred to the borrower. 4. Asset-Backed Financing: Tangible vs. Speculative Transactions Islamic Finance: Transactions must be backed by tangible assets or services, avoiding speculative practices. The Quran prohibits speculative behavior (gharar), as seen in Quran 2:188: "...Do not consume one another's wealth unjustly or send it [in bribery] to the rulers in order that [they might aid] you [to] consume a portion of the wealth of the people in sin..." Conventional Finance: Often includes speculative financial products such as derivatives, which can create uncertainty, contributing to market instability. 5. Profit and Loss Sharing (PLS): Fair Distribution vs. Fixed Returns Islamic Finance: Central to Islamic finance is the concept of profit and loss sharing, where profits and losses are shared according to pre-agreed ratios, ensuring fairness. This is evident in the Quranic teachings on fair business practices: "...so that no one [party] may take advantage over another..." (Quran 2:282). Conventional Finance: Typically involves fixed returns from interest, with profits often generated from fees, and losses borne solely by the investor, unless protected by insurance. 6. Ethics and Morality: Objective vs. Subjective Standards Islamic Finance: Operates on objective moral principles established by Allah. Practices like gambling (maysir) and uncertainty (gharar) are forbidden because they exploit individuals and create injustice. The Quran says: O believers! Intoxicants, gambling, idols, and drawing lots for decisions are all evil of Satan’s handiwork. So shun them so you may be successful" (Quran 5:90) Conventional Finance: Often guided by subjective ethical standards, determined by market principles, efficiency, and profit maximization. While regulations exist to prevent fraud, the ethical foundation is not universally fixed. 7. Financial Speculation (Gharar): Prohibition vs. Acceptance Islamic Finance: Prohibits gharar (excessive uncertainty or speculation). The Quran prohibits transactions that are speculative and unclear. Quran :282) advises :when you contract a loan for a fixed period, commit it to writing with justice, ensuring witnesses are present. "And if you are on a journey and cannot find a scribe, then a security deposit should be taken..." This emphasizes transparency and clarity in financial dealings. Conventional Finance: Speculative elements such as trading in derivatives, futures, and options are common. These practices involve high uncertainty and risk, often contributing to financial instability. 8. Zakat and Charity: Social Responsibility vs. Voluntary Giving Islamic Finance: Promotes wealth redistribution through zakat (almsgiving), which is an obligatory act of charity, ensuring social justice and alleviating poverty. The Quran states: "And establish prayer and give zakah and obey the Messenger - that you may receive mercy." (Quran 3:132) Conventional Finance: Charitable giving is voluntary, with no obligation to redistribute wealth in the same way. Wealth accumulation remains the primary focus. 9. Regulation and Governance: Shariah Compliance vs. Secular Laws Islamic Finance: Governed by Shariah law, financial institutions adhere to religious guidelines, ensuring compliance with Islamic principles, which include the prohibition of interest and speculative trading. The Quran directs: "...And if you repent, then it is best for you..." (Quran, 2:279), indicating the importance of repentance and ethical adherence in financial dealings. Conventional Finance: Governed by secular laws and regulations set by governmental and financial authorities, with no inherent requirement for adherence to religious principles. 10. Wealth and Profit: Purpose and Distribution Islamic Finance: Wealth is viewed as a trust from Allah and is meant to serve the welfare of society. The goal is to promote social justice and the welfare of the community, not just profit accumulation. The Quran states: "...And those who, when they spend, are neither extravagant nor stingy, but hold a just balance between those [extremes]." (Quran 25:67) Conventional Finance: Primarily focused on wealth accumulation and profit maximization, often with less emphasis on societal welfare or wealth redistribution. 11. Accountability: Eternal vs. Temporal Islamic Finance: Strong belief in ultimate accountability to Allah, where financial actions are judged not only in this world but also in the Hereafter. The Quran reminds: "And fear the Day when you will be returned to Allah." (Quran 2:281). Conventional Finance: Focuses on temporal accountability through legal systems and market forces, with no spiritual consequences or eternal judgment attached to financial actions. 12. Social Impact: Collective Good vs. Individual Profit Islamic Finance: Aims for collective social good, ensuring that transactions benefit all parties and avoid harm. The Quran encourages collective welfare: "And cooperate in righteousness and piety..." (Quran 5:2). Conventional Finance: Often prioritizes individual or corporate profit, with social responsibility being secondary and typically driven by corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives rather than a central financial objective. Summary. Islamic finance is grounded in divine principles set forth in the Quran and Hadith, with a focus on justice, fairness, social responsibility, and wealth redistribution. The system aims to promote ethical financial practices that benefit society as a whole, prohibiting interest (riba), excessive uncertainty (gharar), and speculative behavior. Conventional finance, in contrast, is shaped by human reasoning and market forces, prioritizing profit maximization and individual wealth accumulation. Conclusion. Comparing Islamic and conventional finance, one should unquestionably choose Islamic finance. It upholds ethical principles of justice, fairness, and social responsibility, eliminating exploitative interest (riba) and speculative risks (gharar). Unlike conventional finance, which prioritizes profit over people, Islamic finance ensures wealth serves the collective good, promoting equity and societal welfare. Western capitalism, in contrast, often promotes individualism, materialism, and inequality, conflicting with Islamic values of community, shared prosperity, and ethical business practices.

Tithing is enforced in New Testament. Matthew 23:23 "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices-mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law-justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former". Clearly do NOT neglect tithing.

Thank you for this as well. Again, 95% of our. beliefs are identical. My church considers some sins to be much more serious and harmful than others, and when committed more serious sins require confession with required church authorities - clearly indicating the severity of the sin - and for potential church discipline, up to and including excommunication. When sins do not require confession to ecclesiastical authorities, it is between the sinner and the Savior to work out their forgiveness and cleansing, with maximum effort to make true restitution to those who were harmed because of the sinful act(s).

I wonder why there is not a single scripture in the entire Bible that actually says that God is three persons in one essence. Indeed, the language of essence/substance is not the language of the Bible, but the language of Greek philosophy which might give us a clue as to the real origin of this doctrine. Although it is admitted that the Bible does not actually reveal the Trinity as a defined doctrine, it is claimed that the doctrine is revealed progressively. And yet, nowhere do we find Jesus or his disciples introducing or defending such a doctrine. Rather, as historians know, the doctrine is a later post-apostolic teaching that adherents anachronistically project back into scripture. So, let's look at the reasoning in the video : Part 1: The claim that elohim hints a comlexity in God's unity from the very start is specious. The Jews had no concept of a triune God and the idea was unknown to Moses and the prophets. The book of Genesis is part of the Jewish BIble and yet we are to believe the Jews were ignorant of the God they worshipped. The term elohim is applioed to Moses and singular pagan gods. The use of singular personal pronouns and verbs identifies God as a singular entity. And how can Gen 1 :2 possibly be the introduction of a second entity when the video claims it is not separate from God and is in fact just a description of God's presence or power. How does God's power become a second person ? There is no hint of biunity. Part 2 : We are told that the Angel of the Lord /Yaweh's angel is not in fact an angel or messenger sent by God to proclaim his word, but is in fact the pre-incarnate Christ. The video maker has no understanding of the Law of Agency! How this leads to Isaiah 9 :6 is beyond me. Again, the content creator gives no historical or theological background as to whom the prophet actually addressed these words, or to the fact that the Septuagint renders the verse somewhat differently or even to the fact that the term 'God' has a range of meanings in the Bible and that the term is applied to the likes of Moses; Hebrew Kings; Judges; angels - even the devil. But then again, why let some facts get in the way of a good story. A possible messianic prophecy is a far cry from a Trinity proof text. Part 3: Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. This claim actually makes Jesus one other than God. As usual, thr video maker begins with John 1 :1 where Jesus is not actually mentioned. However, if the 'Word' is a title for Jesus, perhaps we can ask who is the God he is with ? Nowhere does Jesus claim to be the second person of a Trinity. Indeed, throughout the NT, we read about Jesus praying to and worshipping his God. Jesus was a Jew. Which God did he worship ? The baptism of Jesus only mentions the Father in heaven, the Son on earth and the spirit descending upon him. Nowhere does it even suggest that these three are part of a co-equal, co-eternal Trinity. This is simply an example of projecting a presupposed belief on to the text and making it say what you want it to say. And when did the spirit become a 'person '? Do we have any OT text where the Jews say the spirit is a separate person ? The claim that the baptism account shows three 'persons' acting in harmony is still a far cry from claiming that they are all 'persons' of the one God essence. Part 4 : Where is there a command to 'worship' the spirit or to even pray to the nameless third 'person'? Baptism "in the name of" simply means baptism by the authority of e.g. "open in the name of the law." John baptised people but not by the authority of the messiah or by means of the spirit. Now, new disciples were being baptised in the name of Jesus in recognition that he was the messiah and as a result, the spirit would be poured out on them. The claim that the spirit must be associated with personhood ignores how the spirit is described throughout the Bible and ignores the concept of personification. Part 5: Worship. The Biblical meaning of the word 'worship' is not even discussed and instead, we are taken to a single verse that can and is understood differently. Indeed, the entire purpose od the gospel of John is not to show that Jesus is God, but instead, as the next few verses indicate, to show that he is the Christ, the Son of God. To Jews, this indicated that he was one other than God Almighty or the Lord God, terms that are never applied to Jesus in the gospels or Epistles. In Paul's blessing at 2 Cor 13 :14, Paul actually differentiates the Lord Jesus from God as he does in all his greetings when he sends greetings from two (never three), the Lord Jesus and the Lord God. He even explains that one is the God of the other. (2 Cor 1 :3) This really is the Trinity for dummies !

Did you know that the Romans weren't the only ones who celebrated midwinter or the winter solstice, but for example the Germanic, Finnic and Baltic nations had their own celebrations? For example, Santa Claus combines the central European St Nicolaos tradition, the English Father Christmas tradition, the Scandinavian Christmas tomte tradition and the Finnish and Swedish Yule buck (or Yule goat) tradition? Or that the Christmas tree originally came from the Baltics and was originally intended to be set on fire before the tradition spread to Germany and was domesticated as a small table Christmas tree to take inside?

In the Nordic countries, studying and reading the Bible led to the acceptance of female priesthood in Evangelical Lutheran churches. However, it still receives opposition because historically and traditionally, women were not allowed to be priests in Nordic churches until the end of the last century according to critics, we should follow tradition rather than the Bible because "giving up on the way things always used to be leads to destruction, immorality and decay (like smartphones and etc.)." Opponents of women's priesthood are, however, a shrinking group in the church and members of free churches who have left the main church. However, female priesthood has the support of the majority because Martin Luther's wish was to follow the Bible rather than tradition, and besides, parishioners don't really care if their priest is a woman or a man.

We ought to worship him the way he commanded. He cannot accept if we worship him in different ways in his Name. He did not accept the cow idol worship although they said this is the Yehwah who redeemed us from Egypt slavery. Also Saul who was commaded by God to kill all amalekins but he kept good stuff like cows and sheep and he told that they are to offer to God on altar. But God didnot accept it. We cannot decide our own festivals and specific days to worship him in his name. He wants us to be pure all worldly traditions and festivals. If you want to eat , eat whatever and whenever you want. Why should you want to wait for an year to gift and show some love to others. For Christ people everyday is a worship day and everyday is a good day. Always try to listen Holy spirit and walk in his ways. Dont go behind all worldly traditions but just follow Bible. In India many new festivals came up in Jesus name and they say they worship God only but follow all wordly ways to worship him. We need to worship him in spirit and in truth. No need of any celebrations. Instead enjoy everyday in his presence in all the times even when you are going through lot of troubles and health issues.

We are to remember JESUS death and resurrection, not HIS birth. The shepherds were in the field watching their flocks which means it was in the fall. Dec 25 was Tamus birthday. What does the Bible say? Do not be like the world.. The world loves Christmas.

It is not commanded, but it is also not forbidden. Everybody knows that Jesus was not born on December 25th. However, you are missing an incredible ministering opportunity. The holidays open up more opportunities to tell someone about Jesus, and statistics show that people are more willing to come to church during the holiday season than any other time of year. If you want to pass up that opportunity that is up to you, but do you think that Jesus would?

@Aviole We do not know when Jesus was born. There are some who believe that Jesus was born in the spring and their are some who believe that He was born in the fall. So how can we even pick a date for His birth if scholars cannot even agree on one? It is not like the resurrection. Furthermore, Christmas and Easter are the 2 days where people go to church the most. Those are the 2 times a year where telling someone about Jesus is the easiest to do... isn't it the great commission to spread the gospel? I will agree with you on the Easter one only because we actually do know Jesus was crucified and resurrected.

@ so why do you think Jesus Christ didn’t reveal the day of His birthday to us in His Word? Do you think it was an accident? Where in His Word does He command us to celebrate His birthday? With Easter, why is it that every year it falls on a different day?
