Trying to Surprise my Wife....In a Blizzard!
In this video, I'm trying to surprise my wife with a painting to celebrate our 10 year anniversary.
When I proposed to my wife I did it with a painting, now 10 years later I'm trying to surprise her again. There were so many obstacles to get through in this one from keeping it a surprise to timing to even the weather, but it was a really fun adventure!

Throwing a giant porcelain plate
มุมมอง 1Kหลายเดือนก่อน
In this video, I demonstrate how to throw a large porcelain plate on the pottery wheel. I use a bit of an uncommon method for me, hammering the clay with my fist instead of centering and pressing. This comes with some pros and cons as you’ll see in the video. I end up with a 20 inch platter! I hope this into the pottery process and reveals a new technique or two that you could use if you are tr...

very cool! What kind of clay did you use? I am always a little bit unsure if my pots can hold liquid properly....😅
Thanks @Andrea-bu3vn I'm using a porcelain clay body here!
❤❤❤
thanks!
Beautiful jars
Thank you!
Thank you for showing me how to trim 😊
You are so welcome! I'm glad the video was able to help!
Amazing video, thank you!
Great video, love your channel. Thanks for the info.
Thanks!
A year later and still useful! Thanks for making this video! 👍
Thank you!
Hallow bro I am Indian potter
Nice video! I'd love to see the trimming, too
Super
❤
I appreciate the detailed instructions!
Beginner...😂
Bowl to plate !
Are you creating the spout and handle when the vessel is still wet?
No, I created the spout when it is still wet allowing me to shape it but I put the handle on when it is leather hard that way I can handle it without it falling apart.
@NSG. Aah okay :) I was already confused! What is this miracle? Haha
I GUESSED EXACTLY 6!!!
Some reeeeeeally thin walls 🔥😮💨🙌🏻
Great video. So excited to try this
I have never spiral wedged before and would like to learn it. what would be a good amount of clay to try it with?
I think that around 3 pounds would be a good starting point. You could use a bit less but I find that it’s easier to get the hang of with larger amounts of clay.
Try using bent pieces of metal coat hangers. One for height, one for width. Infinitely adjustable. 👍
Nice! Thanks for the tip!
great video, perfect for learning. explaining what your doing while your doing it is just whats needed. Thankyou for sharing your skill and knowledge
no clue how I got here but good stuff! Kinda made me want to give it a shot, any ideas for starting out doing pottery on a budget? (poor student lmao)
yes! if you're by a community college see if they have a course, that's what I have done. schools are different but mine has a big studio and plenty of open studio time, if they give you unlimited clay its usually about a dollar a pound. There are sometimes facebook groups of potters in town and cities. Ceramicists are friendly folks that excited others are interested in what they love. good luck.
@@champagnebathwater8524 i'll look around, thanks!
Hey thanks! The response below was perfect! one thing to add is that, you could also look for a makerspace in your city and sometimes they will have wheels and a kiln that you can rent, but the cheapest option will be to use a friends wheel or someone you know! Good luck!
Great video. Thank you so much for sharing.
Sweet🎉
Isa: that seems so satisfying when you smashed it down!
That was super cool!!
I guessed perfect…34 items.. nailed it
😄
Show me, you making tea 🍵 in this pot please 🙏🏽
Great video bro
Hmmmmmm some times is count 7 sometimes 8 🤔
So you what do you think 7 or 8? 😊
Great tutorial!
Thanks!
Are there specific situations where you want to use a particular type of lid?
Yeah there can be! If the lid needs to serve a specific function then it probably maters. For example for a teapot you may want to have a lid with a long flange, so that it won’t fall off while pouring. There are, of course, cases where the type of lid could be a style preference as well. There are also lots of different types of lids other than the ones I show here, these are just what I feel are the most common. Thanks for your question and I hope this helps!
I’m just learning how to do lids. But the gallery one at around 5mins doesn’t match the gallery lid you trim at around 8mins? which made that lid difficult for me to understand. I’ll practice though, I’ve learned that’s the key. Thanks 😊 Edit-found the YT short, that helped 👍
Glad it could help! Good luck!
@@NSG. update. My first lid today wasn’t brilliant. I’m putting it in a bisque kiln. I’m treating it as an Art installation called ‘Your first lid will be crap’ 🥸🇬🇧 Practice….
Nice!! Keep practicing!!
Excellent demonstration. Thank you.
Great instructions! Thanks for sharing .
Ouch 😬🤕
Did you just nonchalantly grab a handful of tacks
You should narrate books 🧘🏿♀️ so peaceful 🙏🏽
Do you stick it into the oven after to cure?
After I build the teapot I will fire in a kiln, which is like an oven that gets really hot, a regular oven is not hot enough. I will fire it 2 times, the first time is called a bisque fire, this will cure the clay. After the bisque I will glaze it and then fire it again to melt the gaze! I hope this answers your question!
hii I'm currently making a teapot for my high school ceramics class and was looking for tutorials on spouts! this video was super helpful 'cause i didn't even know about the first method. thanks!
I'm glad it could help! Good luck with your teapot!
hell yeah
WHOOOAAA MY LOVE,MY DARLI I HUNGERED FOR YOURE TOUCH...😅
You are hella talented!!
When you have hobbies but you are bored 😂
This is random to say but i use clay to make targets from scratch to throw in the air and shoot
What clay are you using? Look super smooth
Hi, I’m using a basic porcelain. It is super smooth!
My studio was never that clean. So much iron oxide splashed on walls it looked like we hired SAW.
Mixing bowl to pour batters.
I prefer the thrown on the wheel spout.
Me too, that was the one I chose!
I was surprised my guess was 4.
You explained it very well. I subscribed 😊
