CHRISTMAS AULD LANG SYNE, Bobby Darin, (Atco #6183) 1960
CHRISTMAS AULD LANG SYNE, Bobby Darin, (Atco #6183) 1960
Flipside: CHILD OF GOD - Here is another really great Christmas classic from my music collection. Bobby Darin was born ‘Walden Robert Cassotto’ May 14, 1936, in the East Harlem neighborhood of New York City. He was an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, impressionist, and actor. As an all-around entertainer, he performed jazz, pop, rock and roll, folk, swing, and country music.
Bobby started his career as a songwriter for Connie Francis!
He recorded his first million-selling single, "SPLISH SPLASH" in 1958. Following that hit was "DREAM LOVER", "MACK THE KNIFE", and "BEYOND THE SEA" which brought him worldwide fame. He won a Golden Globe Award in 1962 for his first film, ‘Come September’ which co-starred his future wife, 18-year-old actress Sandra Dee.
Bobby Darin had 41 songs charted nationally on Billboard. His biggest was “MACK THE KNIFE” (Atco #6147) which charted in October 1959 for 26 weeks and reached #1. It stayed #1 for 9 weeks, WOW!
“MACK THE KNIFE” was a major, MAJOR hit song for him. It sold 2 million copies and won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year in 1960. Darin was also voted the Grammy Award for Best New Artist that year and "MACK THE KNIFE" has since been honored with a Grammy Hall of Fame Award.
Bobby Darin suffered from poor health his entire life. He was frail as an infant and at age eight was stricken with recurring bouts of rheumatic fever that left him with a seriously weakened heart. Sadly, Bobby Darin died December 20, 1973. He was only 37 years old!
In 1990 Bobby Darin was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His close friend, Paul Anka, announced the honor. Darin was voted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1999.
Bobby Darin’s bio info (personal life, his many more music and acting credits) is quite extensive. It would take many more pages to capture it all. I thought I’d leave here and honor Bobby Darin for his musical contribution to the world!
“CHRISTMAS AULD LANG SYNE” is a special dedication to Brucemichaelrodda and his family this Christmas Season. Bruce is one of our loyal subscribers and asked me if I would upload this great Christmas classic

Like her style; after a challenging task or series of task or practice she helps dial things right.
Hi Robert, nice to hear from you. when you read the liner notes, Robin had quite a career...she accomplished a lot. Happy New Year!
Robert Goulet e uma Lenda. Como eu gostaria de cantar igual a ele 😅😅😅😅
Hi Michelmotta, so nice to hear from you. "GREAT" ballad and yes, Robert Goulet is a legend. We lost him 17 years ago, he is sadly missed.😥
Jackie had such a beautiful voice I love them all but if I had to pick one . Only You Only me is my favorite. Love you Jackie Wilson. RIP.
Hi Lois, really nice to hear from you. "GREAT" comment. Jackie is sadly missed.😥
So many harmony groups but none compare to The Manhattan Transfer with maybe LH&R being the only exception (and they were a trio not a quartet). The two males and two females voices each with their own register is sensational. They just have a tone that no-one else sems to be able to capture.
Very pretty...fabulous talent..he accomplished so much in a short span of time..imagine what could've been..amazing liner notes..thks
Hi Kenny I agree, imagine what could've been? We lost him at 37 years old, shame!
It was due to Neil Sedaka's love and admiration of Dinah Washington that inspired him to initially co-write NEVER AGAIN for her. But it wasn't until the early 1970's when this tune further inspired him to recompose and rework BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO and turn it from a rock and roll classic into a pop ballad.
Hi Michael, nice to hear from you. Did you have a chance to read the liner notes? I do mention Neil Sedaka who co-wrote "NEVER AGAIN".
Thank you. This is great and Tim Hauser was an amazing kind and talented musical gentleman.
Nice to hear from you. Did you happen to read the liner notes? Tim Hauser was a very dear close friend..he was amazing, he's sadly missed.😥 I hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas🎄and a healthy safe New Year.
@@poprecords4ever532 Sorry for such a delay writing back. You had a wonderful friend. I bought and read his book called Swing It. Did you know it now fetches hundreds of dollars to buy it online. Great book. Have a fantatstic Christmas and New Year.
Great stuff..I bet this lp brings back some nice memories for you..excellent rendition as only Elvis could do..super pick...thks
Kenny, many "GREAT" memories..I was 13 years old. I miss my Mom. If it wasn't for her, I would have never known Brooklyn Mint, he's a dear friend.❤
Nobody could croon and make you feel the music like Dean when he bent those notes..he did it all with finesse and polish..thks
Kenny, Mrs. Mint and I love the female chorus with a great vocal arrangement. We uploaded this with the Christmas songs, Dean Martin died on Christmas Day (1995)
Jazzy, happy-sounding pop treatment of the seasonal standard..very talented crew..thks
Kenny, you can't beat the harmony. Tim Hauser was a very dear friend of The Mints.
this song only went to #109 on the pop charts in 1963!!!
Hi Daniel, nice to hear from you. Etta James "GREAT" talent. Did you have a chance to read the liner notes/bio?

❤❤ Jimmy Beaumont (one of the greats) he is sadly missed.😥
@mintrecords4ever absolutely love his voice what a great group
I absolutely love this ❤❤
Rockabilly, nice to hear from you. Super cover version. "GREAT" arrangement.❤
Written by a 16 year old Neil Sedaka
Did you have a chance to read the liner notes? I do mention Neil Sedaka who co-wrote "NEVER AGAIN".
Yes only one heart i have,, but i have loved more than the numbers in our calendar hehehe
Hi Gloria, really nice to hear from you...now don't share everything LOL.❤❤❤ Jerry Vale, one of the "GREAT" singers of our time...appreciate your support for our POP channel..thank you!
I am in love with song, Joni James also recorded, I was a Detention Officer in our county jails around 2007, fellow female officer took Joni's version and sang it till she got it perfect, then she sang it to me, she was married I was not, but we did nothing other than enjoy this song with wonderful words, we might have been able to do this as duet as I can sing in Jimmy's range very well and I simply cannot sit still or quiet when this song plays!! Thank You for posting this, it is now 2024 and still love the song!!!
Hi GM, nice to hear from you. Thanks for sharing with us your love❤for this song. Jerry Vale also recorded "THERE MUST BE A WAY". Two of my favorite singers!
Hello again Ron :) I loved reading your story about how you became mesmerized by the magic of music, and about your mother generously giving you her wonderful record collection 🤍 This is, indeed, a wonderful rendition of Moonlight Serenade, and I will share it with my mother :) Thank you so much for directing me to this song and to your second TH-cam channel, which I'm excited to explore more! If I lived in the USA I would be tuning into The Doowop Diner radio show, which must be marvellous! ^_^
I'm so happy you found this and commended. Here is the link to our Doowop Diner radio show. www.wvlt.com/live Just click on it and you can listen tomorrow night (WEDS.) 10/23 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM U.S. EST. Also, you said you subscribed to our POP channel, it didn't register, try again, maybe there was a glitch. Do you do anything by email?
First time I have heard this particular offering of a song that has spawned numerous covers, but I admit I really like it. Thanks for posting.
Sissy, you're so welcome...nice to hear from you. "GREAT" cover version.
The King comes through with an awesome cover of this beautiful standard...great liner notes..'nuff said..thks
Kenny, I still can't believe we lost the KING at only 42 years old, a real shame!
I always lliked this trio...their crystal clear delivery still resonates today..powerful lyric is handled so well by the gals..great bio..thks
Interesting cover of this iconic r n b tune..always liked her voice and delivery..good pop pick..thks

Great story behind this group..smooth as silk rendition of the standard..great cut off their lp..thks
Pretty pop ballad..nice chorus support..pleasing sound..thks

@@poprecords4ever532 I have no idea. I was trying to write a comment. I was trying to say that Sunny Gale’s version was the best of all the Goodnight Sweethearts I ever heard. Was just a little kid back then but I bought the record and still have 2 mint condition 78s.
Jbrick, thanks so much for sharing your comment about Sunny Gale. Did you happen to read the liner notes about her? Really appreciate your support for our POP channel .😊
Marvellous song
That's nice!
Hi Mike, nice to hear from you. Did you have a chance to read the liner notes we posted? Lloyd was a dear friend, he is sadly missed.😪
Such a beautiful story about your mom, Ron! And such a fantastic dedication to her! Thank you for directing me back to this page of your downloads. Your mom sounds like such a treasure!
BRONXGIRL, thanks for giving it a read. I just wanted you to know where I got my music inspiration from...and to have collected so much great music through the years and now be able to share it all on TH-cam with the world.
Prefer Dinah Washington or Pat Boone versions.

Major personality handles the tune with class and sophistcation..she had quite a career..thks
A great rocking cover version. It was big surprise finding the Cadillacs' original on a CD in a local thrift shop a few years ago, some good other doo-wop songs too.
Yes 'The Glenn Miller Story' is a great film, a very nice story about your mother. It's my birthday today, this reminded me of Dad giving me 'The Ultimate Glenn Miller' as a birthday present, I'll play it tomorrow. This is an excellent version.
Hi Dave, how are you? Hope all is fine...yes 'The Glenn Miller Story' is a great film. It's where I got my inspiration for music from, of course Mom helped!
Excellent pop cover of the Angels hit..liner notes here are very interesting..the man was a lefend - no wonder my dad liked him so much..thks
The great ones get better (and are more appreciated) with age..solid liner notes..thks
Very pretty..his voice is soothing and relaxed,.good pick..I've akways liked the song..great bio..thks
This cover is interesting, to say the least..I wonder what the "suits" at Coral were thinking when they approached him to do this number..it merits another play..thks
The story behind this selection is fantastic..nuff said..
Thanks Kenny, I can't believe it was 70 years ago (I was 10) be 80 next month WOW!
Amazing alternative to Cline and Buchanan. No words.
This is my favourite version of this song. My second favourite is Ricky Nelson’s version 🙂
Hi Mary, so nice to hear from you. "GREAT" cover version...you're right, Ricky Nelson's version "GREAT" too.😊
Great video of Barbara singing spinning wheel on youtube
My favourite version of this wonderful song.
Hi Barry, really nice to hear from you. This is a "GREAT" song. It's the flipside of a big hit "ONLY THE LONELY" the DJ's never flipped it over!😊
@@poprecords4ever532 That probably explains the reason I only heard it years after "Only The Lonely. Either one could have been the A-side, such a shame that it never got heard at the right time. This is what I love about TH-cam, getting to hear so many great songs that I would have missed.

Hi Donna, nice to hear from you. You sure know your music. Ronnie Dove does have a "GREAT" voice. We recently uploaded the flipside of this record "IF I LIVE TO BE A HUNDRED", check it out!😊
I have a 45 rpm of her 'Un momento mas'.
I just love this song there’s something wonderful about Connie Francis voice that is just magnificent the whole orchestration is fantastic and Conley’s voice is just amazing throughout I love it.
Thanks, Ron, for posting this beautiful birthday tribute to the marvelous Mrs. Mint! Produced by the legendary Ray Stevens, the song itself was composed by the team of Ben Raleigh and Mark Barkan, who were responsible for so many of Lesley Gore's hits (including "She's A Fool," "That's the Way Boys Are," "I Don't Want to Be a Loser," to name a few). Mark Barkan also wrote one of my favorites by Manfred Mann, "Pretty Flamingo."
Both sides of this 45 are excellent. They should have had a longer career . Dick Clark was an owner of Swan Records when this was released .
Very nice..a "diamond" in the rough..the feeling and sentiment is there..I liked the liner notes..wish her my best..thks
