- THREE COINS IN THE FOUNTAIN, Connie Francis, (MGM LP #3965) 1961
Here is another really great cover version from my music collection. Connie Francis was born ‘Concetta Rosa Maria Franconero’ on December 12, 1937, in Newark, New Jersey. She changed her name to Connie Francis at the advice of Arthur Godfrey. She had performed on his talent show many times and he had a difficult time pronouncing her name.
Connie Francis had 56 songs charted nationally on Billboard. She had 3 #1 songs. Her biggest was "EVERYBODY'S SOMEBODY'S FOOL" (MGM #12899) which charted in July 1960 for 18 weeks and reached #1, staying #1 for 2 weeks. Billboard named Connie Francis "the most successful female pop singer of all time.
“THREE COINS IN THE FOUNTAIN” was written by Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn and first recorded in 1954 by the late Frank Sinatra (Orchestra conducted by Nelson Riddle). The song was written for the 1954 film “THREE COINS IN THE FOUNTAIN” and won the Academy Award in 1955.
The song has been covered by many artists: Julius La Rosa, The Four Aces, Billy Ward & His Dominoes (Jackie Wilson singing lead), Eddie Fisher, Doris Day, Joni James, Gene McDaniels, Andy Williams, The Dovells, Clyde McPhatter, Pat Boone, Billy Eckstine, Jerry Vale, Al Martino and just too many more to list!
Enjoy this really great cover version of “THREE COINS IN THE FOUNTAIN” by Connie Francis. Let's hope The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation comes to their senses and inducts Connie Francis into the Hall of Fame for her fabulous music contribution to the world! It is unbelievable that she hasn't been yet.
Absolutely Love This she was one GRAND Lady
Connie could do no wrong, Ron! A beautiful selection from her 1961 LP, "Never on Sunday".
Personally, one of my all-time favorite tunes - no matter who did it..I think I had a few vocal group versions in the collection..this is pop at its best by an artist who could handle any genre..thks
