A Japanese Kiwi documenting his return to Japan after 20+ years of being in Aotearoa, New Zealand. The videos are mainly for non-Japanese who do not live here. As a Japanese, I have been experiencing reverse culture shock, and I wanted to document it, as well as wanting to share to the viewers some insider knowledge.
Eating Samurai Mac at McDonald's in Japan
Join me on a casual outing to a McDonald's in Tokyo, Japan, where I dive into the unique flavours of the Samurai Mac burger and share a glimpse of everyday. This video may seem simple, but it's a delightful exploration of food culture and the universal joy of indulging in familiar treats with a local twist.
As the camera captures my point of view, you'll witness the process from ordering at the counter to eagerly awaiting my meal. The Samurai Mac, featuring a Roasted Soy Sauce Double Thick Beef patty, embodies a taste tailored for Japanese palates, offering a blend of traditional flavours with a modern twist.
While enjoying my meal, I reflect on the nuances of taste preferences between Japanese and non-Japanese diners. It's a reminder of the diverse culinary landscape of Japan, where even a familiar fast-food chain like McDonald's can offer surprising regional variations.
After savouring each bite, the video transitions to the cleanup phase, highlighting the cultural etiquette of tidying up after dining-a common practice in Japan that underscores respect for the environment and public spaces.
This video is more than just a glimpse into a meal; it's an invitation to experience the everyday moments that shape life abroad. Whether you're a fellow traveller or simply curious about daily life in Tokyo, this video offers a relatable and enjoyable window into my world.
Join me in celebrating the joy of simple experiences and unexpected discoveries. Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe for more insights into Japanese culture and culinary adventures. Let's continue to explore and share the beauty of everyday life, one burger bite at a time.

Hi, does this station have luggage storage or coin lockers?
I highly recommend not going on a hot day. When we went it was super hot, so none of the hot food sounded good to us. I had some freshly squeezed orange juice that was cool and refreshing and that's it.
What a sage advice! I did not think about going there in summer at all. I can imagine the place being such a horrid place to be with no AC unit and basically only hot food!
@@RynoMade It wasn't horrid - that oj was fabulous - it was just...very sweaty. =D.
@@madiantin Noted! The oj is a must during summer visit 😁
Thanks for the video, really like this shop also nice they have many dishes small and big, great when you need little food.
You are most welcome! Absolutely, I do, too. It's so affordable, and if you are feeling more peckish, you can always add on the toppings 😁
cool video ryno!
Haven’t watched any of your videos for a while and now you’ve got a few animations! Funny to see that in Chile we call Bizcocho a type of sponge cake.
I will never tyre of these puns 😆
Great to hear you're wheely enjoying the puns - this just inflates my eagerness to roll out more!
Hi, would you know if there is an exit which has an elevator in this station? Thank you.
Hey there. It depends on which line you're taking from Higashi Shinjuku. Fukutoshin Line: Exit B2 Toei Ōedo Line: Exit A2 and A3. Fukutoshin Line is deeper underground, so you'll need to take multiple elevators down. www.kotsu.metro.tokyo.jp/subway/stations/higashi-shinjuku.html
You just know if this was in NZ the kids would end up climbing those sculptures! Great video Ryno!
True! Rules are just guidelines, right 😆 Thanks Ryan!
I am your 4 Viewer bro 😅👍 I subscribed
Haha, cheers!!
Interesting video. Thank you. I haven't really formed an opinion on whaling. Like you said, at the least, it needs to be sustainable. It also needs to be done humanely.
Did you go in the morning? I read that most shops open at 12pm
Sorry for the late reply - I was on a trip. We went to Nakano Broadway at 3 pm! So it was weird seeing some places closed. Perhaps it was the result of the Covid restrictions? And you're right about the opening of shops - apparently, the best time to come here is between 12 pm to 7 pm.
very goood👌👌👌
Many thanks 😁
Just stumbled across your channel. Really funny commentary! Keep it up!
Aw, thank you very much for the lovely comment!! I am getting better, I hope 😬
MARSHALL MARK 244 A+
Someday or anyday
What in the world were they waiting for?! I'm so dang curious...
I watched it several times, but I still can't figure out! The clues in the video were that: the participants were mostly males; were fashionable; were in Omotesandō (thee fashion district); the participants were handing-in something to the organisers; something's displayed on the iPad; and some participants got a special band (green).
It’s a long story to get a ticket. Haha😂
It was quite a challenge!
Lamb ramen?!?
Close! It's tsukemen, where the broth is richer, and it is used as dipping sauce for the noodles (not soup).
Hello! Your content is so polished and definitely fun! I would recommend using a profile picture, because on a first look i thought this account was a bot account stealing videos from a bigger TH-camr. Hope more people find about you and get to enjoy your content!
Many thanks for your thoughtful contribution! I have added a generic profile picture as a placeholder for now, to avoid appearing like a bot 😬. Hopefully in the future, I have a better one that represents my channel.
Just found your channel randomly and just subscribed thanks for the video your awesome.
Many thanks for you comment!! Still learning the ropes, but I enjoy it 😁
Paying some decent money for a burger meal and you have to sort all leftovers in the correct bucket. They are a bunch of rip-offs who find it's too much to clear your table.
You're expected to clear your tray in american fast food places, no? For an individual, sorting the paper from plastic doesn't take more than 30s either. I work in food service and I wouldn't understand not cleaning or organizing my table to help the staff responsible for that, even at sit down places. (In america)
Looks delicious 😋. Two of my favorite things: tsukemen and lamb. Love lamb but not a lot of places serve it in the US unfortunately. Will have to check it out if I ever visit Japan.
It certainly was delicious! This was actually my first time seeing lamb broth - it is uncommon here, too.
🙏
I wish I was in Japan right now to do this photo thing.
Yen is weak! Now is the time 😁
The little bell was the sound of the (old) microwave inside the machine....😆
😆 It was the sound of joy.
I wish we had vending machines like that where I'm from, that looks amazing! 😭
This was such a rare find! Japan seemed to have gotten rid of most of these vending machines that serve warm food due to hygienic concerns, I think.
Amazing Ryan, thank you for taking us on your journey❤
You're very welcome!! I wish that I can post more regularly, but life is busy at the moment 😬
This is such a sweet video, I like the consideration with the large subtitles and the comments throughout :)
Many thanks for the comment and input. I am still experimenting with editing, so I'm glad to hear a such positive feedback!
More food content, please. Love the editing
Thanks, man! I'm definitely getting better at editing. Haha, I shall try out more eateries ... 😁
awwww
Excellent Ryan, such a taste of Japan ( excuse the pun)!!!!!
