Fossiling down Hawsker way
มุมมอง 38519 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
My first fossil hunting trip down to Hawsker in quite a while, much to my shame. The area provides fossils from the Middle and Upper Lias, and provides a chance to find a greater diversity of things than normal on one of my hunts. Come along for the adventure as we find some rarities and some new ammonites for my collection.

New Year, new fossil hunts!
มุมมอง 48914 วันที่ผ่านมา
New year and winter brings a fantastic chance to get out and explore the Yorkshire coast for amazing Jurassic fossils. For my first hunt of the year, there really is only one place to go... Ravenscar. It is my favourite place on the Yorkshire coast for fossil hunting, and it provides a chance to find some incredibly rare Upper Lias ammonites and marine reptiles. Come along!

An early Christmas fossil treat!
มุมมอง 483หลายเดือนก่อน
My final fossil hunt for 2024, and what a doozy it was! I return to Saltwick Bay, one of my favourite places that is known for relatively easy hunting and some spectacular ammonites. What I find however is not just some ammonites, it's a much rarer thing which is new to my collection and was on my wanted list!
One last hunt for fossils in Ravenscar in 2024
มุมมอง 652หลายเดือนก่อน
After a year with 15ish hunts to Ravenscar, it is time to have my final hunt there for 2024. It's my favourite place, full of fantastic Jurassic aged fossils. Come along and see what we find today!

Back out to Ravenscar, this time in the snow! Come along as we find some very rare fossils at my favourite Jurassic location on the Yorkshire Coast, featuring Haugias, Perilytoceras, and the usual less rare ammonites!

Back to Ravenscar to have another fossil hunting adventure on the Jurassic Coast of Yorkshire. My favourite location is home to some very rare ammonite species for the Yorkshire coast, and once again we go in hunt of them, with quite a lot of success. Come along and enjoy!

Returning to Saltwick Bay to hunt in the rain
มุมมอง 5614 หลายเดือนก่อน
I'm back! With big news... My wife gave birth to a healthy baby boy, and both she and baby are doing well. This also means I can get back out fossil hunting for the Jurassic aged wonders on the Yorkshire coast. I picked an old classic as I continue my quest for a Phylloceras ammonite. Come along for the hunt!
More fossil bones down in Ravenscar

It's still summer, I still love Ravenscar, and I am back hunting for upper Lias/Jurassic rare ammonites on the Yorkshire coast. Come along and enjoy the hunt!
Who finds fossil bones at Ravenscar? I do!
มุมมอง 4975 หลายเดือนก่อน
Ravenscar is known as a tough place to fossil hunt due to how hard it is to get to the site, but once there is a fantastic place full of rare Jurassic fossils for the Yorkshire coast. Usually this means the ammonites, but today we go adventuring and find more than just ammonites, plus major news from my personal life! Come along and enjoy the hunt!

Finding Hildoceras Ammonites at Saltwick Bay
lovely grammos, have you ever collected the ones in the cotswolds? giveaway
I've collected once in the Cotswolds and have a few Grammos from there (one featured in my top finds of 2024). Love the light brown/yellow colouring they have from down South, but I need to spend a lot more time down there at some point!
Giveaway. Visited Yorkshire once and loved it! Didnt visit Ravenscar, the day we planned it the weather was really awfull. Found fossils at other sites but sadly not a single Hildi. We are planning our second trip this year, hopefully we get lucky!
Ravenscar is one of the harder places to hunt in Yorkshire because of the climb up and down, so I don't blame you if didn't visit during rubbish weather on your first trip to Yorkshire. It is also the reason there is often decent stuff there, even in summer, but even Ravenscar is feeling overpicked presently. Best place for decent sized Hildys is Saltwick in my opinion, but it's heavily picked over so you are relying on some luck on fresh falls usually. Finger crossed you get lucky on your next visit!
Super beautiful
One day I’ll get to Ravenscar. Giveaway!
Always enjoy watching your hunts and seeing what you discover/recover... It has me longing to get over for a fossil holiday from over here in Ireland. not much jurassic here so I get jelly watching these vids ! Giveaway !
Always something to find depending on where you live. Can't say I know much about Irish fossils but know there is a good map: www.ucc.ie/en/fossil-heritage/fossil-map/ Plenty of good places in the UK too if you do come over! Thanks for watching and good luck with the giveaway
Perfect way to spend my break pulled over in the work van 😅 Giveaway 🤞🏻
GIVEAWAY. I was there the other day, still hunting for my first full hildoceras, i keep finding them, start prepping them and they are crushed 😢.
It took me a long time to find a good Hildy on the coast and even now I've only got a few decent sized good ones. Ravenscar produces a lot of smaller ones (probably more than any other location) but I've not had a big one from there yet. Keep hunting, you'll find one
@dinoskool I got a decent sized one from Port Mulgrave, but it had no centre, my collection is building slowly and I actually love prepping just as much as hunting.
Sounds much like my experience. Got very lucky with my first one in Port but it was a long time before I found my next one(s) at Saltwick. I do love prepping too, but sadly a 4.5 month old baby does limit my ability to get out into my shed with any brain power to do any prep 😅
Giveaway giveaway giveaway now.
Still only counts as one 😂 2 previous vids and some more coming out before the end of the month though!
nice hunt, giveaway , I dont know just how cold it is in england but if you have the balls to wear a hardhat as a civillian/ without pay ,... they make a hardhat liner that covers the ears and neck that , velcros right on may be worth lookin into hell ive worn my liner even without the hardhat before Mike
The hardhat stems from taking a small rock to the head on one of my earlier hunts. Came off the cliff and out what I thought was a safe distance, so now for my safety and to ensure my wife doesn't kill me, I wear one. Thanks for the info on the liner. Through winter it gets down to near freezing regularly. I think this last hunt was about 4C. I've got neck warmer/snood-like thing that often ends up over my ears/head when the temps are low. The joy of hunting at places like Ravenscar is the hills and clambering over rocks keeps you warmer!
@@dinoskool I appologise i did not intend to sound snarky or insolent ,...there are times , text , just doesnt convey meaning and or intent I just wanted to let you know of the liner like i said i even wear my liner without the helmet at times and man around cliffs , or overhead things YES do wear protection ,...it only takes a second Mike
No offence taken. I did appreciate the information! Always a challenge finding something to keep comfortable, warm and safe
I need to say giveaway!! Nice to know that all is well!!
Giveaway! I really appreciate that you tell us the location where you are hunting for fossils.
It is one of the joys I have videoing as a scientist and enthusiast rather than as a commercial dealer. I am not so fussed about people knowing where I am/what I am finding, but I can understand why other channels don't always say it. Somewhere new in the next (albeit shorter) hunt! Thanks for watching!
always great to see your videos , giveaway
Thanks for watching as always!
Giveaway. What a beautiful place.
Just nice to be on the beach Andrew ,still some nice finds tho ❤giveaway 😊
Hey you've got to have days like this to have those great days where you get Haugias! Also, don't know if commenting giveaway on each video increases odds or not but putting it here in case
It's always nice to be out at least. Need some big seas to move things around again. Commenting "giveaway" on each video that releases between the announcement and end of Feb counts as an additional entry each time so it's worth doing!
The coast looks as beautiful as always, giveaway 😂
Well done on 1K, giveaway!
Thank you and good luck! Don't forget to comment on the other videos that have come out (and will come out weekly) to up your odds of winning.
Can't beat a good give away, and a hildi too. Is misses cuff back for an eye check? You were a week infront of me and after the recent floods, it's moved.. Will you be down looking for plant material again?
I do like being able to share fossils with other enthusiasts, and everyone knows I love Hildys. Sorry I didn't understand the other half of the message?
Day looks good - lovely clarity to the light . Nothing lost going on out on a day like that, even if nothing found
Oh I fully agree. The coast is one of my happy places, the fact there are fossils is just a bonus

Giveaway 👍
Wow what a find! A vertebrae in poo! Epic! What is the rope like coming down, is it no worse than port mulgrave? Will be there in a few weeks and had it on my list to visit there. Giveaway
I'm very pleased with my boney poo rock 😂 The rope down is worse in my opinion than Port and would strongly encourage anyone who is unsure to always do the safer route from RHB
@@dinoskoolthanks, yes we walk round to the ship wreak, but think we needed to go round further, that day was also slim pickings

I love a nice coprolite, it would also make a good giveaway
Alas, that one is straight in my collection. I'll see if I can find another coprolite down the line
@@dinoskool I just like the idea of fossilised feces as a prize, It appeals to my slightly odd sense of humor
Good luck with the channel and may you reach 10,000 subs soon, Giveaway
Thank you! Feel free to share the channel widely and it would definitely help reaching the 10k but wouldn't help your giveaway chances 😅
Always love watching your vids andrew between you and fossilifeours my times filled 😆 Giveaway
He's got some fabulous videos and is incredibly knowledgeable on his ammonites around Europe! Honoured you watch me alongside his!
Giveaway. I would love to be there.
much luck,...GIVEAWAY Mike
always look forward to your adventures, giveaway
Nice one Andrew, I know you like a nice Hildy! Giveaway
Beautiful day. Love the scenery. Happy hunting
The amouroceras were great finds, something a bit unusual 😊
Always great to add something new to the collection, and they were a very pleasant surprise! Hoping the big one is all there though, but we shall see in a bit when prep is all done.
The sea looks beautiful, giveaway
Love the coprolite and excited for the giveaway🎉
Love that Coprolite Andrew ,giveaway 😊
Happy hunting. GIVEAWAY
What are the chances of an intact vertebra in a coprolite! That one made me smile.
It was an odd looking cannonball on the outside and a super rare result inside! Can't say I know of many other coprolites with identifiable bones from Yorkshire
@@dinoskool absolutely! Fish scales aren't that rare but intact marine reptile bones? Very cool.
On another note, can you access hawsker from another point instead of starting at RHB? Nice finds mate that Amoroceras regardless of how squished will be an amazing add to the collection 🙏🏻
There is a rope that is not great especially if there has been any rain so I do not give out the location. It gives access to the farthest bits but honestly the pickings were so poor (as you saw) you'd be just as good going from RHB which is much easier and safer
@@dinoskool appreciate the clarification, I’ve always wondered about hawsker as I see a lot of finds labelled from that location. Yup that will be the plan for sure if and when I get a trip there, I’m under strict instruction from the Mrs not to put myself in danger when I go on hunts, so ropes and abseiling is kind of off the cards 😂 *I may have made a passing stop at mulgrave on the way home after Saltwick to do a test climb down a few months ago but she doesn’t need to know that*
@@CushtyBelta "Hawsker" seems to be the default label for any Upper Lias stuff once you get North of RHB until you hit the Saltwick area. It's a massive area, and even the bit I did on this hunt is huge. That being said, it still needs fresh falls and it's heavily scoured by collectors at the minute, but you can often find things if you put in the time and have a bit of luck as with everywhere! I've not done Port in quite a while, but I'm told the new steps going in get you down a long way without the need for ropes. Curious to see how long they last!
@dinoskool ah that makes a lot of sense. I revisited your other RHB video last week, after I’d visited with the Mrs (not fossil hunting) to see the routes you used for accessing the beach, think it was the one where you found a couple of hildys in a row (lucky man) so as you said that’s basically upper lias produce which could default as hawsker finds, good to know! Yeah when I went to Port 2-3 months ago for a look-see the steps still seemed in the beginning stages, but have heard they’re a bit further on at the mo. Look great they do! Hopefully they last, I wouldn’t like to be the one doing that work, must have to carry the wood quite a distance 😂
Giveaway :)
Just woke up, eyes aren’t working properly yet but this just popped up, great start to the morning! Giveawaayyyy
