Yes please a Christmas 🎄 tag!!

I read On tyranny, the short version, and it depressed me so much. I have to get better at this.

Yes please do a Christmas book tag. I’m interested in reading more non-fiction particularly dealing with climate change. I’ve seen some booktubers talking about Fire Weather by John Vaillant and I plan to read it. Also, dismayed with the political climate and the way the election went.

You can only answer these questions truthfully and I love that about you! Don't conform to what you think we want to hear. My family and I are so upset about the outcome of the election. We have been leaning on each other for support. I understand your need to learn more and not lead with your emotions. Looking forward to hearing what you think. Have a great week!!

Hi Heather, Are you planning to judge the BookTube prize again? I know it was awful for you and sort of derailed your reading earlier this year. Ironically, I signed up for next year after hearing about it from you.

Sounds like you’ve picked some very unbiased “political” books to “educate” yourself with. LOL. Why bother, if you’re only subscribing to your own echo chamber?

It sounds like you're going down the same route as me right now. I read 'On Tyranny' most recently, and I'm almost halfway through 'Democracy Awakening'. It's going down as one of my favorite books of 2024. I have never, and I mean never, tabbed a book before. This book, though, I have placed dozens of tabs to mark important passages that I want to remember. I'm in my 50s, and I've learned stuff from this book that I did not know. Speaking of DNFing books, I DNF'd a book a few months ago, 'All the Colors of the Dark'. I was listening to it on audiobook, but it just wasn't doing it for me. I tried it again a few days ago, reading a physical copy this time, and I actually liked it. So, I'm guessing it was the narrator or perhaps I just needed to read the words for myself.

I’m with you on the frequent DNFing. Life’s too short. In Tyranny is on my TBR for December also. Time to better educate myself and equip myself for those with differing (wrong) opinions. 😂 I’d love to see your Christmas tag video if you have the time to film it. Take care. 😊

I think I only DNF'd three. I have had a pretty good reading year. I don't really get into Christmas books or seasoned themed books...mood reader. I will be interested in hearing about the political books. I know it's a touchy subject. But, I too am angry. Looking forward to your Christmas tag.

Climate change?! Politics?! Oh my! That doesn't sound like much fun. I am doing even more escapist reading lately - mysteries, of course, and more and more fantasy. It's finally sunk into my wee brain that I can not change other people. I can only control myself, and if chocolate is involved, that control is questionable - lol. I have DNF'd more books this year too! I don't waste time on books I don't enjoy! There are way too many books that grab me right away!

I saw Lucy when you posted her on your Instagram. She's so cute. I would like to have a cat, but we have a malamute, and he has a very high prey drive, so that would not be possible.

I read God of the Woods and it left a bad taste in my mouth. It was propulsive enough, but the story was convoluted, and I didn’t like a lot of the people. The bad guys didn’t have any redeeming qualities and that gets boring. Aloha

I did finish The God of the Woods AND Tom Lake and U totally agree with you. I thought they both were boring. I've read that The God of the Woods is on several top 5 lists for best book of 2024?? Oh well. To each their own. Wrong Place, Wrong Time sounds interesting and also I might look for Hum. Did you read Familiaris by Davi Wroblewski? Its on my top 5 list. Also loved The Little Liar....was a powerful little book. Lucy's so cute. She has that wild eyed kitty look.

hi Heather, first time finding you on You Tube. I'll be watching more. I loved The Dutch House-my first Ann Patchett book. Then I read Commonwealth. Good Premise, but I didn't really like it. I still have Tom Lake on my shelf. I may like it since I've seen the play "Our Town". I LOVE Lucy by the way.

I really am an Ann Patchett fan too. You're about the only other person I know who liked Bel Canto! I haven't tried Tom Lake yet because it sounds boring. I am nervous about God of the Woods. I will let you know if I try it! Great talk! Keep it coming!! 😊

I soft DNFd soooo many books this month-- all me or mostly me vs the book. Glad you did find some books you loved/liked. I also liked Wrong Place, Wrong Time and i think she has a new one coming out in a few months?

I really liked The God of the Woods but if it makes you feel better, I know a number of people who either DNFd or just didnt like it much. It seems to be a love or hate thing .. not much in the middle!

I was bored by Tom Lake too and I listened on audio. Meryl Streep was the narrator. I hated to do it but I DNFd it.

Oh no God in the Woods. I haven't read it yet and I had a hard time reading Long Bright River by Liz Moore because I found it long and wordy. 😥

Amen Heather, I suffered through the whole Liz Moore book. I agree with you everyone loved it but not me. It is way too long, too many confusing characters, ugh I did not like it at all. Sometimes I think people read reviews and get caught up in all that. I’m not afraid to differ with popular opinion. I was so glad when I finished that book.

My sister and I tried reading Tom Lake and we both DNFd. My sister said it was a good book to fall asleep with before bed. Lol
