Turning 30
Hey, today's my birthday. It's a big one.
I think I needed the catharsis of talking about the last 10 years of my life, it all sounds and looks more serious than it actually is. Today's been actually a great day and I'm thankful to be here and making this video for you all.

Should Video Games Be Remade?
มุมมอง 4402 ปีที่แล้ว
The era of Remakes is upon us. The Last of Us, Resident Evil 4 and Dead Space are all being remade for modern platforms, let nobody seems to have these modern platforms. Is that the reason why we keep retreading water? In this video I discuss the purpose of remaking these games. Special thank you to Colby, Cooper and Nick for being guests in this video and talking to me about the games being re...

    I knew Mario all my life. Jumped around in kindergarten, and instantly knew I want to grow up making games. I sadly can't do it, because I have heavy depression, but Mario manages to make me smile even when I give up. And seeing how Mario is booming rn with the movie, the remakes, the new games like Mario Bros. Wonder, makes me feel like that small child again.

    When I was very young, I got a N64 with Super Mario 64 on it. Mario has been with me so long, and means so much to me. My parents didn't really like video games all that much, and told me later in life that they wish they never let me have that N64, which made me sad. It feels so hard to communicate how much video games mean to you when you're talking to people who couldn't care less about video games. But hey, Mario has been there for us, and will probably be there for us for the rest of our lives--and that's something special in my estimation. Thanks for sharing your story!

    I grew up playing the Atari 2600. I saw the Atari "Classics" game and fired it up. I then realized it couldn't be any clearer to me why games need to be remade. I was easily entertained back then because I spent hours upon hours playing those games. Seeing them now is very nostalgia inducing but they are trash games compared to what we're playing now. I want the newer iterations of these older games that I enjoyed years ago. It gives me the opportunity to see "how the developers truly envisioned it." I make a decent living so I can afford them as well so, why not? I can't wait to get my hands on "Dead Space" since that was lost to time and I'm looking forward to a "Syphon Filter" remake as well. When I was a kid, I couldn't imagine games looking the way they do now so I'm going to get every remake, remaster, or definitive edition that I'm interested in.

  • @michadomeracki5910
    @michadomeracki5910 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Remasters and remakes and the end of our industry. If you don't want to buy an old game because it is ugly then I am sorry because no one can help you. If you have a game then... you don't have to buy it again and if you don't have a game then you can fucking buy it. Old games are cheap, holy moly! You pay 60 dollars for a stupid mod that increases resolution.

    • @Sonnavafitch
      @Sonnavafitch 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I definitely don't think they're the end of the industry but it is a bit detrimental to creativity. I see the necessity in remaking older games to improve controls

  • @SouthernMercenary
    @SouthernMercenary 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I look at remaking games as this, It is done when the original game's age starts to become a negative for new people to consider. A five year old game is looked at much differently than a 15 year old game. Even if the game has been ported forward since. As well as remaking a game gives the developers a chance to improve on aspects of an older game that where lacking due to limitations of the time they where made. Now the Last of Us remake comes off as a pure cash grab because the game wasn't that old and not much has changed. New levels weren't added in, and sections haven't been expanded.

    • @Sonnavafitch
      @Sonnavafitch 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very fair reasoning behind creating remakes!!

  • @DragoniteSpam
    @DragoniteSpam 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The "they just want more money" complaint is always an odd one because... that's why _all_ decisions in gaming get made, these things don't pay for themselves :p There are plenty of games from 15+ years ago that I wish could be remade based on the stiffness of the controls alone, but I wonder if part of the reason the PS5 in particular has seen so many of them is because how rocky the first year was. For game publishers it's not a matter of "the PS5 install base will be bigger when the supply chain issues clear up," it's a matter of "if the game doesn't sell in the first three months that's the end of the story," and that kind of thing makes people with money hesitant to greenlight projects with massive budgets.

    • @Sonnavafitch
      @Sonnavafitch 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's definitely a solid point, it's basically a built in install base you can almost guarantee that the company will do well

    TIL you're also a New York Mets fan o/ when it comes to fan games (and fan fiction, and other fan-made creations) they tend to be a good starting point for people new to making games because the characters and mechanics are already firmly-understood, and the challenge for the developer becomes how to use the rules of Super Mario to make a fun level/game, rather than trying to make something fun starting completely from scratch taking a step back, it's also why highly-focused game engines like RPG Maker or Renpy tend to be recommended for beginners and non-technical people, rather than an empty OpenGL render loop

    • @Sonnavafitch
      @Sonnavafitch 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a really good point about fan content, I could definitely agree with that. I'm sure it's a great way to practice, it's just confusing when people make "Metroid fan game!" I spent 3 years make this, and now it's taken down by Nintendo and nobody can play or see my work. Also, I'm a super casual baseball fan but I do enjoy watching a Mets game every now and then haha
