    Ooh, as a sewist and sometimes knitter, I feel like I can offer some advice. If you like the Estuary skirt pockets, the Peppermint pocket skirt has a similar big-pocket Hobbity look and is so so easy to follow even for beginners. It was the first garment I sewed and I've made 3 more since then. I follow the sew-along by 'Andra Makes' every time I make one and she definitely gives some tips to make it even simpler than the instructions. Once you have one of those under your belt you could consider mashing/hacking the Pocket skirt and TH-cam pattern you linked together to get even closer to the Estuary design lines. A standalone sewing pattern that I would recommend is the Hope dress by Style Arc but as a company they are kind of notorious for sparse instructions, so again I would follow a video sew-along (many recommend leaving out the back keyhole because the head hole is large enough and it makes it that much easier). If sewing is something you see more of in your future, I can't recommend the book 'Ahead of the curve' by Jenny the creator of Cashmerette patterns, a company known for busty plus size patterns. The book contains some simple patterns (Honeybourne is my favourite) and SO MUCH advice on fitting to diverse bodies. I learned so much from this book and Jenny is also generous with tips, hacking guides etc on her blog and Instagram (a lot of which is specific to busty and/or plus size sewists. Also, just a quick note that in regards to the Big 4 sewing companies, the designer Connie Crawford made a line for Butterick using her own block (base set of measurements) and they were modern plus size (2X - 6X) and there are some real gems in there. I have bought some beautiful patterns from this line but you will need to pay attention to the line drawings because the patterns used for the sample garments are....not my style. So excited that you are now venturing into the sewing realm after you've done so much work for the plus size knitting community. You are so inspiring and generous with your time and effort <3

    I heard that quote first (It´s not hard, it´s new) from Deniece from Earthtones Girl. And I firmly believe it. Just because you (meaning anyone) don´t get it, don´t do something right or well initially, it doesn´t mean you won´t be able to at some later date. I truly believe that those occasions are simply the universe saying it´s not the time (for me, at least) to learn that thing or achieve that goal...that it will become clear and I will succeed later. Try try again!

    Oooh, I was waiting for this once I saw your finished tank top on Instagram! So lovely 💕. Best of luck with your Howl jacket! I've sewn one (without a pattern, foolishly), and it was a big challenge. Also a good call to make it for yourself and not a boyfriend who will break up with you 😆 (years later, and I still have the jacket thankfully). Looking forward to seeing all your sewing endeavors!

    I wonder if just a couple of wee crochet chains with tiny buttons to keep the straps in place on the pillars tank would also help solve the sliding problem, both laterally and the front dropping. The lace panel the back is gorgeous and looks like it’s meant to be there - that little something as you walk away. I agree with the needing much less positive ease, or even going to negative, for us busty women. Keeping positive ease at the full bust makes garments look like tents. The 03? ❤ That is just stunning. Chef’s kiss. I trained like a body builder (never intending to compete) in my 40s and it completely changed my relationship with failure. In weight training, you’re always seeking the point of failure -literally when your muscles can’t do another rep. Failure is the opportunity for growth. So chase your points of failure, then back up, take a break, and bash through!

    Always a pleasure to see your podcasts whilst I knit. When you gain a bit more confidence in your sewing skills, I recommend Cashmerette patterns. Jenny the creator is very helpful with pattern fitting for larger people. I’m a knitter and sewist but like you I struggled with fit. We put so much time and effort into our makes and it’s disheartening when a project doesn’t turn out well. I’m still learning! TH-cam is great for this.

    Your lace panel is SO pretty and looked great in the front too. You could add like a single floral repeat "panel" to the front to bring that detail to the other side and cover up the bit of bra making you uncomfortable there! :)

    Your white tank turned out beautiful!!! Thank you for sharing your knitting journey. I wonder, if you perhaps think you are bigger than you are? I know I do that. I knit things that are too big, then I'm unhappy with the results. I read somewhere that plus size knitters don't need as much ease as the average size knitter uses. You are beautiful!!!

    • @knittedbywhitney
      @knittedbywhitney วันที่ผ่านมา

      I measure myself every time before choosing a size, and I'm very particular about accurately measuring myself. I really like the fit of the Pillars Tank, I just needed a higher neckline. Ease is completely personal to each knitter, whether plus size or straight sized 🙂

    It would be nice to have more patterns designed for extended sizes by a designer that wears those sizes. A larger size (as you know) is not just a small size with more inches. There is so much more to consider!

    Wow! I love the lace panel you did on the back of you tank top. Maybe you could do a panel for the front, but do one less row of flowers at the top so you still get the low V-Neck you wanted 🤔 without your bra showing or you not being able to lean forward and everyone getting a full view of the 'girls' it would make you feel comfortable wearing it. Just an idea. Nothing you do is ever a failure because you are working on these projects & figuring out the issues / nitty gritty / suggestions for women that are more voluptuous & want to make these knits for themselves & feel beautiful wearing them because they fit properly, etc. ❤ Susannah

    • @knittedbywhitney
      @knittedbywhitney วันที่ผ่านมา

      I actually did try to make a front panel, but I rushed it and it didn't sit right, it kept ballooning outwards, so I've parked the idea for now. I have a lace cami I can wear under my Pillars Tank so I can still wear it comfortably, but I want to try the lace front panel again in the future. 😊

    My favorite was that last scarf I think. It was just gorgeous and I really want to learn how to make that leaf edging. I appreciate all of the work put into your videos. I would like to request something that focuses on Acrylic or Cotton in Aran or Worsted. It just seems that those four parts are the easiest for a lot of people to lay their hands on when it comes to yarn without going to a specialty store. Then too I have health issues that keep me from working with the smaller yarn weights and the larger ones. You would think that having hand issues would only restrict you from the smaller yarn weights but the more bulky yarn weights actually hurt more in some cases to work. So Worsted/Aran Weight yarn pattern video please?

    What a fantastic video! Ok, I’ll admit I put quite a few of your suggestions in my queue…but I also put your video on pause and bought the little leaf neck scarf! What a fantastic and quick gift for holiday giving. Please keep hunting these fantastic patterns down. I’ll be ever so grateful.

      There are SO many out there, I would not be surprised if I found another 20 at some point and put together a third list! 😂

      It’s all down to Whitney that I made a “Little Scarves” bundle in my favorites so I can pause and add. 😂 I literally can’t seem to find them on my own (I do happen upon one here and there) so I love these videos that show us less talked about patterns deserving of some love. ❤ Saroyan was in my library already, but so many of these are actual favorites because of their different constructions.

    What is the yarn in the shirt you're wearing? It looks like it might be Starry nights by arcane fibre works but either way the color and pattern is beautiful on you.

      Nope, it's not them. It's an old colourway from Ravenswood Fibre Co. a local Nova Scotia yarn dyer! Samantha's yarns are absolutely lovely! 🩵

    It’s always a pleasure to see your podcasts. You are so bright and cheerful and great “company “ whilst I knit. Love the pattern round ups. It’s always great when there is a podcast ready to watch from one of my faves. Thank you

    Whitney!! So nice to see you again😊 (you're not gonna believe this but earlier today I was thinking that I really would have liked to watch one of your videos and a couple hours later you uploaded, amazing!😂) As I said before, I LOVE your pattern round ups, you always find something for everyone and I saved several of them. My favourite was probably the Espresso, but I also love the Alex Scarf, and I think that's the pattern I'm gonna make with a very special yarn to me, that was my grandma's how was also a brilliant knitter❤ (she passed away last summer and that scarf in her yarn will be a great way to always feel her close to me)

      That will be such a special project! I'm so glad I could play a part in choosing the perfect pattern for such precious yarn 🥹 I love those two patterns so much and can definitely see them in my knitting future!

    Thank you so much for thinking about size inclusive pattens. One of my sons is a 5x, but the biggest problem is he's 6'6" and everything is way too short in the body. Knitting it myself means I can make it as long as he needs, and now I have some patterns to chose from. I'm so grateful.

    I am not a seasoned knitter. I don't really do hard patterns, but I really like that you showcased patterns for plus sized women!❤

    I would suggest adding an elastic thread in the neckline and armhole of the Baigneuses top. That should help cinch things in even more. I'm glad the top is done! What a roller-coaster. Hopefully one day you'll find your perfect tank top!

    Loss hits you in all kinds of ways so I hope you will give yourself the time and grace to deal with it in your own ways. I lost both my parents in the space of two years, and it is still hard to believe they´re gone. But you do get through it.... though the grief CAN hit you out of the blue. It´s a process. But it´s also a testament (I think) to how much the person you lose has meant to you. The memories at least don´t go away!
