Battery Malfunction in Miami - Part 23
Got hit by a few setbacks and had to pause the trip. Started with some family matters to attend to back home, then I got the shingles in Key West, and then I had a battery malfunction. That's when I decided to push pause and ship the cyberdrop and cargo bike back to Canada. Since then, I've been focused on my health, getting back in the gym, my keynote speaking engagements, and re-focusing on how to produce Cyberdrops for people interested in buying one at an accessible price point.
I'll have some more updates from the shop coming! Thanks for all of you who have helped me along this journey so far! Would have had to pause far sooner were it not for you!

Yeah! Inspired by similar angles
Hey there!! Was curious where you were. Was thinking of you when I was at Trent. Sleeping on it is when the little "fix it faeries 🧚 " come and help 💪🙏
Jeremiah, it has been a while! Disappointing I imagine, but definitely the right decision. These batteries are not to be messed with if they're playing up. Could very easily and very quickly turn to sh** and a dangerous situation for you.. nice to see you looking well and safe..
Thanks Chris!
Hello from Trujillo Perú. I just came across this video. I have not watched your other videos on the build yet so my question may have already been answered. Have you installed Surge brakes on the trailer for down hill safety?
I have a surge brake tow arm now. But I found it wasn’t necessary with the regen braking of the motors.
I definitely was wondering where you were and how you were going? Looking forward to chapter 2. It’s all part of the adventure…in fact that IS the adventure. 👊🏻
Thanks 🙏
I would have just tried to stay there for the winter, don't know why you want to come back up here now lol
Had some family matters to attend to.
@@Jerbrown Always good to see the family around the holidays too. Hope all is well and best of luck on your way home.
@@Ro-Bucks Thanks!
Thanks for the update! Was concerned that we hadn’t heard from you. Your project wil evolve but it’s too interesting to be over. Never give up!
Never give up! Exactly. It ain't over till' you say it is. Looking forward to Chapter 2.
You broke down 9 months ago
@@pathaysonline Correct, battery issue wasn't as severe as I thought initially. Back on the road now.
Met you on St. Simon's Island, Georgia a while back, was very impressed with your Cyberdrop setup. How are you doing, how goes the journey? Haven't seen any news lately.... Hope you are doing GREAT!
Just seeing this now. I guess my last video helped :) thanks for the kind sentiment!
PATENT IT !! Bf someone tries stealing your idea . Idk if anyone has done anything like it or not , that’s why I’m saying go ahead and do it !
Too late haha. It’s ok, lots of people have great designs. Appreciate the sentiment, though!
Long live the solar tour!
I'm about to do an other solar tour. Long live the solar tour (2024)

Hope to have next one up in next couple weeks
Great build I'm in the planning stages of something similar for myself. I noticed how tight the fit was getting through the barriers on the bike lanes. So I was wondering how wide your trailer is so I can be sure not to go any wider.
40 inches!
@@Jerbrown Thank you!
@@biggkidd71 You bet!
I am mind blow with how many people need to ask what that is, have they never seen an RV before. It looks like nothing but a mini RV how are people confused lol
Behind a bike makes it unusual I guess :)
Sitting here thinking this is the best trailer build I have seen yet and I'm 1.5hrs away. how much you want for it lol I have never welded anything before, but I might need to copy this one, Kinda.
Hard to part with the prototype, but as I look to building the saleable version maybe we could talk then.
Why would you go to NYC ?
Wanted to test the bike lane widths and bollard widths in a major city to make sure the Cyberdrop would fit.
I was wondering what happened
That is the coolest camper I have ever seen!!
Glad you like it!
Great to see all the workers & officials everywhere so helpful and friendly to you:)✌️
Is the goal to sell these one day? (Please say yes)
Yes, I’d like to bring it to market.
I love this project. I really believe it's an innovation. Can we see the Cyberdrop being pulled by different Ebikes? different styles/models/brands etc.
I’ll try to get some different examples in the future for you.
Great ride. The Virginia boys and so many from even further north, have sort of overtaken the OB over the last 40+ years, but many are at least nice overall....
Interesting. Are you born and raised in the OB? It does seem like a lot of the smaller towns have been developed a lot kind of like how it has gone in Muskoka Ontario up here in Canada.
This the coolest thing ever! You were right by our home at Avalon Beach pier! I had a friend who drove to Ushuaia Argentina and took almost two years camping, and stopping to work along the way. They ended up taking a ferry to Columbia and continuing on versus continuing down through the peninsula. Side benefit was they got to camp at Pablo Escobars destroyed home. Have a safe trip!!!
Hey! Nice to breeze by you :) That’s a great approach. I’ve definitely found the one-shot approach gets isolating pretty fast.
I met this gentleman in Miami. He stopped by our shop. This is a very impressive rig.
Those "Virginia boys" sure are scaredy cats. I'd imagine if you told them a ghost story they wouldn't sleep for weeks! Sad that they live their life in so much fear.
Well, one of the Virginia boys had a son that was tragically hit and killed while on a cross country cycling tour of his own. So once I learned that of course I understood his concern. It was coming from a place of real sorrow. But without the context, I can see it coming across that way.
@Jerbrown All of the xenophobic talk about "those immigrants" and "stuff happening at the boarder" is what I was talking about. They were just repeating talking points they'd heard from propaganda outlets. Sad to hear about his son, though.
No Videos anymore?
There will be more.
Hey Jeremiah, looking forward to an update. I hope all is well on the road.
Bless ya! I’ve had to take a pause. I’ll have an update for you soon. Take care.
Where are the other parts?
th-cam.com/play/PLLYq4yiXA8Zben_8h20VEPcFWq9cUMyyK.html&si=rPgnLkeM8_f90_0l
NYC averaged around 2000+ murders in the late 80s. Today there are approximately 400 in a city of nearly 9,000,000 people, so the officer needs to get her facts up to date lol. For reference, states with half of NY's population - such as TN or SC - have more homicides. I think the difference is that in those places people "feel" safer because they mainly live in bubbles, they go into a car then go into a store, then back into the car, then back into the subdivision, so the crime that happens feels far away, while in NYC people are living amongst each other and may only be a few miles away from a relatively bad area. All this to say that NYC is far safer than most Americans recognize - your in much more danger living in an area where you need to drive a car everywhere. Great video!
Ok well said!
Hey man long time no see hoping to see new videos on your cross country journey soon
Hey! Hope to have an update soon!
30 miles per day of solar driving power, with trailer? Interesting that the Aptera car gets 40 per day… but doesn’t have as much sleeping space LOL
On a good sunny day, flat, no headwinds ;)
Can I have it
Maybe later
Can you put part number on all of your Cyberdrop videos? Thanks.
Ok
I can just feels those watts traveling through your knees. Besides having a good weather-protected enclosure, and a robust space for storage.... If your only goals were what the system was intended to truly solve, would you do it the same? You've got 5 wheels on the ground and some of that maintenance is going to affect your pace.
👋 I’m happy with it. Outperforms my expectations. The maintenance is next to nothing once I size the rear wheels properly for the load. I’ll be doing some more testing soon. But yes, this turned out to be everything I hoped for and even better than I imagined in terms of ride feel, stability and aerodynamics. I think I’m missing your question, maybe? The system was designed to solve all the goals I had for it. I’d do it different if I had different goals.
Would solid rims be a better choice
Yes, but I don’t want to go with heavy trailer rims and it’s been difficult so far to source a 20” mag wheel or the like to fit the 20mm spindle and 100mm hub width. I’m starting to look at something custom like welding my own aluminum wheels - but that seems like an exercise in torture due to the distortion caused by the welds. Open to suggestions! Next up I’m trying spoked fat wheels.
Ocracoke the mosquitoes ate me up!I liked Avon, and emerald Island.kittie hawk, and nags head was great.wilmington was hell
Curse those mosquitos! That’s why I wanted a cabin to escape into at any time!
I went through there in 2016.
Morehead City Atlantic Beach were nice.people we're good to me.
Nice!
How has this only come up on my feed now !
Beats me!
Dude where can I get a bike like that…you have inspired me, I’m 65 years old 👍👍
You can build a version :) or wait until I can get a production model rolling.
Yeah, trying to play Elon fan with your build and association of your build with the cyber truck fiasco was probably not the brightest idea. Though that is a damn heavy touring bike/trailer combo especially if it needs 10 kwh to go 130 miles. Well built though unlike the truck. Your battery has to be well over 130 pounds alone, the bike you chose is also a super heavy beast, you have never actually done any cycle touring prior to when you decoded to build this had you?
Battery is about 100 lbs. It’s the lightest I could make it while fitting all my criteria. I did a tour to Newfoundland from Toronto, and that’s when I thought through what I wanted in a bike camper.
@@Jerbrown I thought I was crazy at 2.2kwh on my touring recumbent, I can cover the same distance easily. Though if anything happens pedaling is still an option for my weight class. I have to know what's the bike weigh? And what's road ready travel weight? How far could you pedal it if you had to? My bike is like 50 to 55 pounds stripped down to just one kwh of battery and no cargo or rider, also have you ever considered the size of the fire should that battery go critical fail? The funny thing is I have a 48 volt burden carrier and it only has a few hundred watt hours more.
@@acroduster yeah, I’m doing something different than you.
I want to do almost exactly this. I think for mine I want a trike as my riding bike with the same trike trailer design your using. I'd also want to look at maybe sneaking in a small diesel engine as a range extender. Get into some real remote places but fat tires will be a must.
Cool
I don’t get it you built this hole setup but you couldn’t replace a spoke your self . I am I missing something ps following the adventure
Replacing spokes is no problem. I’m not sure what part of the video you’re referring to but this was early on and I was probably still learning on the fly. Maybe a bit overwhelmed :)
@@Jerbrown yeah that makes sense it when you took the bike to to mechanic for a broken spoke
Trailers and trikes ..too wide for existing infrastructures. Inconvenience 2 wheel cyclists.
It may seem that way, but on long road trips (Canada to Key West) the only time I inconvenienced other cyclists was crossing the Brooklyn Bridge. There’s lots of road out there for everyone!
Take a look at endosketal prosthetic leg titanium tube clamps. Component Tolerances are outrageous.
Interesting. I will, thanks! 🙏
Bro is the next mark rober
High praise haha - that guy is impressive.
I just discovered your channel, and this has been out for almost 2 years hope everything goes well. When you do your big giant V and come back up Northern California area come ride through two lakes and then the ocean, I'll ride with my Sur ron with you. Might be another two years before you make it this way at the rater you're going though unless these are massively prerecorded ahead of schedule.
Sounds good - I’m taking a pause and have to catch up on life before continuing. I’ll pick up with the videos soon. Cheers
Cool set up and journey. Point of fact, NYC is far safer than it was in the 80's. Do a search on crime stats from then and now and it'll show it far safer.
Yeah, I never felt unsafe tbh
hey man you need a safety chain on that hitch! It was not beefy enough.
Lesson learned! I went mega-beef after this.
