Using Rode Wireless Pro for stereo line level recording into your phone?!
มุมมอง 2614 หลายเดือนก่อน
I often find myself in the situation where I want to record videos on my phone with line level audio. There are several solutions and this one is not the most straight forward and I wouldn't advice anybody to buy a Rode Wireless Pro for only this purpose. But if you got one "lying around" and want to record some jams....it's a great little setup :)

Overbridge isn’t ready yet, so no multitrack to DAW just yet. Zero cross calculations on sample placement aren’t in the same league as Octatrack, can’t manually place slices like Octatrack.
Hoping overbridge will be here so and also that they add manual slicing. What do you mean by zero cross calculations?
the error here is buying the rev2 instead of the prophet 6 or 5/10. rev2 sounds like a lot of the VA synths even if its analog
This video is amazing!
That new version looks soooo dull with its shades of grey, white rectangular buttons and super-bland knobs. Probably the most boring synth I've ever seen. It seems like they migrated all of the original's playfulness from the casing into the display. Which is a bit ironic because I think a large part of the original's appeal was that it didn't have a display to begin with. All parameters were laid out in that matrix which was right in your face. It was truly what-you-see-is-what-you-get. Talking about the display, the animations are nice but I don't really like the washed-out pastel colors. Combined with the casing it's so depressing. I understand why they kept the genre button as it became part of the original's identity. However, why not add single-line character displays for each category to make them dynamic? Would that really bump the cost so much? I mean, they basically did that with the R3. And then there is that almost indescribable sound quality of the original. Direct and beefy but at times also woolly and lush. Hard to explain but definitely unique. As soon as I hear "new engine" I'm going "nope". Increase the polyphony, add some effects like reverb, perhaps make the distortion adjustable and simply call it a day. How easy could it be!
I owned a Syntakt… did an album and then sold it. Felt similar to you… but funny thing is when I listen to those tracks they are still some of my favs… lol. I have used a lot of elektrons. Still using my OG digitak and still love it.
Thank you for sharing, I am deeply inspired
Africa song was played on a Prophet-5
Blasphemy. Lol. I have both. Syntaxt and NOW Digitakt 2....bcus I understand the Syntakt. I've heard people say THEY wish the Syntakt sampled. Actually it depends on how you define "sampling" For me... I just load up a sound pack and wallah. Random Choppable samples. That said... If ya wanna be selective. The Digitakt 2 fits the Bill. Im Glad i own it...but i will never disrespect the Syntaxt. She taught me A LOT. The Goal is to intertwine DT2 samples with ST shapes and sounds. Seems like the Perfect Pairing. Throw in a SP404 and Whoooo!!!
no disrespect for the Syntakt! And much respect for anybody who creates bangers with it. Having both is surely great!
I got the Digitakt 2 as well. I also have the MK1 and the Digitone. After getting the Model Cycles, i fell in love with the sequencing. Good stuff.
Use case vier is where it's at. :) 👍 ps. Funny enough, I sometimes like to do the opposite: setup loops in DAW / Reaper -> send them over to the DTII + mess with them some more.
I didnt know you could do audio via USB like that. Cool trick with phone and USB adaptor
my problem with a Mashine like the Syntakt is its limitations aside the drum sounds. no matter how much You could do... You rarely might end up with something usable outside of Your standard/favorite sounds. An one shot drum sampler makes way more sense to me.
I traded my octatrack for one. Should’ve waited. Still no over bridge smh
hope they'll add it soon
great video and congratulations on your handling of Digitakt.... It's a team in full hype (if at some point I don't stop being hype), but there are many videos and many that say nothing except "film I have a digitakt mk2"... this one however, makes me want to buy a digitakt again.
thank you
06:04 🤯Suddenly my mind goes blank and filled with melody
🙏
i feel you. For me it is that the syntact sounds everywhere the same. There is no uniqness anymore after release. When i listen to many syntact artist - the sound all the same.
I beg to differ. I'm not so keen on the raw Syntakt sound. I see a lot of videos with that samey sound. I myself try very hard with my Syntakt and believe I'm making some amazing sounds with it that don't sound "Syntakt". Have a look at my recent videos 😊
Cool 👍
The dawless remind me some kenny larkin sounds 👍
Before I finally sold my Analog Rytm, I kept getting lost in the possibilities of synthesis, but in the end the sound rarely convinced me. The engines are partly the same with the Syntakt, so I can feel you. The Digitakt is practically a nobrainer these days. Unless you already own an Octatrack - - and have kind of romantic feelings for it 🥰 Thanks for the vid! Always a pleasure to watch your stuff.
romantic feelings towards musical instruments are probably the most productive "feature" they can have ;)
For a dawless mixed setup the digitakt 1 is perfect, 8 audio tracks and 8midi tracks, the prices are down at the moment.
you're right. What drew me to the Digi 2 was mostly stereo sampling and I think I can benefit from the 16 tracks down the line. For example to use several tracks at once to create chords
Great Review ❤. Thank for sharing your love to the good old OP1 😊
Funnily I started to feel the same about the Syntakt. I always tend to have the same kind of melodies and sounds. While the digitakt 2 allowed me to explore me a lot more different soundscapes. Initially I prefered the Syntakt because I didn't want to experience the hassle of importing samples, preparing them so that they would sound good etc Now I really enjoy playing with the digitakt 2. It's so powerful and just sounds huge! I mean, it has a real punch. I'm exploring all kinds of directions, not only ambient music, but also ethnic music etc. Ultimately I think I'll sell the Syntakt. But I had some great times with it.
So I'm not the only one having that experience. Exactly my experience :)
@@johnnygorillas I'd like to see a lot more machines in the Syntakt. Maybe even granular synthesis or something else, or a real FM machine. It really needs some diversity. I also have an OP1 mk1 and intend to sell it (the workflow does not suit me, but interesting results can be quickly obtained, and it has a sound of its own). Also, having only 2 different songs is way too limiting even if I understand that we are supposed to transfer the wav to the PC when we are happy with the song.
I also just sold my Syntakt to get a DTII, for similar reasons. Killer hardware sequencier, controller, and I like analog hardware synths + samples for drums. Coolest groovebox eva
good to know, I'm not the only one :)
Here's why: because capitalism and in people's minds, 2 will always be better than 1. No need to watch a half-hour video. That's your life, y'know. Limited time. Spend it wisely.
that's maybe why I got the Digitakt 2 instead of the now very affordable mark 1 version...can't deny that. But Syntakt vs Digitakt is another story
I have both the Syntakt and Digitakt II. My goal is also to finish tracks in Ableton. Can you go a little bit more in depth about how you took the stems from the DII and got them into Ableton? Was it already arranged the way we see or did it just move stems and you had to place them again the way you wanted from the pattern? Grea video with use cases! Thanks.
Easy way would be to use Overbridge, but I think Overbridge for DTII is in closed beta currently.
Because Overbridge is not yet available I just recorded the single tracks one by one into Ableton. Some of them just a 2 bar loop but for something like the hats I recorded for 16 or 32 bars and changed some parameters while recording to end up with a more interesting take.
Predict your future. You will keep the Digitakt 2 and also buy a Syntakt again.
Lmao 😂
haha...that's not completely impossible
Haha, I was about writing the same 😄 Happened to me...
why, youde be better off getting the digitone. getting syntakt would just be more of the same
Absolutely. Out of all the gear I've bought and sold, the Syntakt was the one I regretted the most. So I bought it again. I'm never letting it go. It's the best synth I ever owned. But it's a drum synth too. 😁
very cool jam and setup there at the end, sounds great
thank you! Glad you enjoy it
i often found u-he diva to sound nicer than my rev2 but when i sit down to play my rev2 and just mess around with the controls its just so much more fun as an instrument and it still sounds really good
i tried to copy the same settings you showed in your rev2 on my own rev2 and it sounded really different
Wow. That’s strange. What settings exactly?
@@johnnygorillas the filter envelope. i was trying to make the a11 patch, i got it to sound the same but the values on my filter envelope are diffferent
Im getting the microkorg as my first synth ever. I’m really excited
You really should give all the options a look, if it's gonna be your first synth. The editing of sounds on this sucks, yes it has good sounds but a mininova would make a much better first synth and its probably cheaper. Way better editing and sound capabilities too. I love the microkorg but it's user interface is clunky and limited. Don't underestimate the drive to create new sounds you will get after a while
Micro korgs have very powerful synth engines.
Thanks for sharing the information . I also love mine!
🔥 always good to hear people's thoughts about fun gear. where is the filming location at 0:17?
That’s Lagos Portugal 😍
A prophet rev 2 sounds ultra digital when compared to a vintage 5
I ordered one 3 months ago and it just arrived yesterday and it's so much it's totally overwhelming
10'50'' the plastic keys sound is also very different !! More seriously, at the first raw sound with pure waveform we already understand the big difference in warmth and presence
Must be most horibble 8tiez Soundz eva How people can like this?
The shape mod on the rev2 for some reason affects how much sub frequency comes through the oscillator depending on where it is. I've noticed the triangle waveform has the best bass.
Amazing video. Think I might finally purchase one
They aren't around new. Quit making em in '22. I got 1 of the last 4 new ones in the US about 4 months ago lol. I'd just get the MicroKorg V2 that i think came out in June. Supposedly it's better than this one. This one is cool, but there's tons better out there for the same price. Keep looking, you'll at least find a very lightly used one if u really want this one.
Really enjoyed that, for once I literally finished a video about gear without pushing myself or feeling like it was filled with just dry info. Awesome stuff, enjoyable and I was able to fully get the gist of the OP-1 and how you use it. Thanks
The question still lives! I think it’s over. I love analog, will likely get another one in the future, but using the Roland system 1m I couldn’t care less when it comes to how great it sounds when it comes to analog. Though I think Roland nailed it with their ACB tech to emulate their analog synths. But yeah, I’ll get another analog synth one day.
Cool toy, but when the battery dies, you’re fncked.
It's easily replaceable
Just charge it, I’ve used it for weeks without a charge and it was still kicking. I maybe have only charged it like 10 times since owning it (4-5 years)

I got the OP-1 field, I regret selling the OG OP-1.
u spazzed bro
Gorgeous tones... excellent review Johnny !
03 Pad sounds have slow Attack of Amplitude Envelope
Sliders are better than knobs... They give you much better feedback on the settings.
This is so relevant even all these years after the OP-1 initial release. I just picked one up secondhand after years of obsessing and love it. Thanks for giving me some ideas!
yes..... have you tried pressing the 2 poly buttons (1+2) at the same time on the 106? gives you a different sound
Rev2 is infinitely better than any Roland, including overrated Jupiter-8.
