Baltic Triangle Station (2025)
Liverpool St James station in Liverpool, England, was a railway station situated on the old Cheshire Lines Committee line from Liverpool Central between Liverpool Central and Brunswick stations. This line is now a part of Merseyrail's Northern Line. The station is located in a deep cutting between two tunnels at the junction of Parliament Street and St. James Place, opposite St James Church, There are plans in place by Merseytravel and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority to reopen the station. Subject to funding, the station could reopen in 2025 under a new name, the pubic like the name Baltic Triangle the most, to reflect the area around the station that now has many new business, the reason they dont want to use the original name St James is due to confussion with the current James St station.
St James station opened on 1 March 1874 and closed on 1 January 1917, Parts of the station's platforms survive, as do some rooms cut into the rockface, hopefully these are saved and incorporated into the new station design.

Sadly those 507/8's will never serve it, where exactly is it being built?
My Great Great Uncle Thomas Rendell , was the station master mentioned who died in the fire...he is buried in Toxteth Cemetery.
Lad that got off at 4mins was well suspect😮 even ran down platform ...scallywag😊
mis old fleet but new fleet are worth replacemnt sadly maintaning old fleet was differcult it had happen one day
I grew up just off the Dock Road near the bottom of Hill St and I remember the old MD&HC Shunt engines tripping between the various Docks. Happy days.
I believe I have seen her around Halewood station many years ago and didn’t realise till I seen the sign in Garston station. Spooky
We had a Canada Dock in London Docklands and the area now has Tube Stop on DLR called Canada Water most Docks filled in but a couple of large features remain..
Was Hartleys good station on the line that ran behind Walton jail and through the 'half miley' that went under marsh lane, by the gas works then under Bootle new strand station to Alexander goods station?? Cheshire lines goods route I believe it was called.
Was this station the one on opposite side of road to Holly park, were south Liverpool played? I recall being able to see the ground passing it on a train, so maybe it was allerton, both stations were really close as I remember ( I was only 7/8 I think) .
the walkway should be reopened
Does anybody recall/ have info on the old goods line to Langton dock from aintree, ran behind Walton jail, through to the 'half miley' tunnel that ran down past gas works( exited were Lidl is now, marsh lane/Stanley rd) into a cutting at side of police station and under present Bootle strand (were Asda is now) in a deep cutting then into another tunnel by old muncaster pub on irlam road,....where did that tunnel exit, what was the route from that muncaster portal and where did it exit for its arrival at the Langton dock goods yard?? I've heard it said the tunnel portal was inside a warehouse somwere around bottom end of strand road/ derby road....anybody know, or got info, pics of this?? Thanks. We use to walk all those disused lines n tunnels, ones under the flyover by rice lane to kirkdale, first tunnel had a passage in side leading to a cavern which had a little tunnel in corner which led to a ladder going upwards, that comes out into a manhole in the raised section of the subway/flyover roundabout....never figured out why though....any ideas..... love to know we're portal of the muncaster/ irlam rs tunnel came out though at dock end. Thanks.
the Langton Dock Branch? railmaponline is really useful for these things
Wasn’t that an official Landrover promotion video?
Load of potential on this line, fast services from bootle and anfield/brook into wavertree/town. they need to look at this more
It`s all changed down the dock`s now. It`s double lined in and out and the rear view as it was departing the docks has a big new warehouse facility on the right complete with loading Bays. There are plans to open Regent Road back to Road Traffic again, but when I don`t know.
Hi, do you recall the goods line that included the half Miley tunnel under marsh lane? I'm lookin for info, pics , it ran in a deep cutting under strand station and where Asda is now into another tunnel at side of old muncaster pub on irlam road....my question is...where did that tunnel exit at the derby road/dock end into Langton dock goods yard...any ideas?? Thanks.
@@modernista6056 Hi, are you talking about the one that ran down to The Aintree Freifghtliner Depot? if it is I think you can still walk part of it. There is a guy on here who did quite an extensive Video on it. The only other one I know of is the one we saw here, which comes out at Regent road crossing.

So basically, Granny, recognising that abandoned railway stations are not safe places to play, made up a ghost story to stop the kids going back.
Hiya thanks for sharing these. There was a train station in Speke you know on the same line as Ditton. Sefton Park Station near the Mystery Park as well, I believe.
lovely footage from a Buster Keaton film. I believe the replica was used in another film then it was scrapped
'Ethelfleda or Aethelflaed is the name of Alfred the Great's daughter who led the Mercian re-conquest from the Vikings and arrived at Runcorn for the final battle with them south of the Mersey.
I've been through there loads of times, and so much of the tunnel route is cut through solid rock, just like so many areas of merseyside and cheshire. And I hope there's enough clearance in those single-track tunnels to escape in an emergency, not all the trains that run through there have any end doors.
Looking for a 502 or 503 then I’m nailing the subscribe button…………….. 3:48 got my subscription 👍🏻
I didn’t want this vid to end, that bridge and walkway are absolutely stunning, possibly my favourite architectural construction, now the transporter bridge has gone. My mother remembers the transporter, it would pause going over the Manchester Ship Canal. Im impressed, amazed, jealous and grateful for the photos you have of the footpath, I’ve seen the black and whites but the modern day ones I’m astounded!
I went there today and I had no idea about the collapse thinking I would be allowed inside and the garage worker (really nice guy) let us see the blocked off entrance to it
No Linacre Road station?
I *do* hope that the station is NOT called the Baltic Triangle (or even Cains Brewery Village) as those two names just don't seem as ideal as many might think. The best candidate - if it is not to be reopened as St James (obviously due to easy confusion with James Street) - would be to name it after the road that it is on pure and simple: Parliament Street. After all, that in itself preserves its ties with this specific part of the city and not have to rely on a trendy district name like Baltic Triangle or Brewery Village which may eventually at some point in the future become something else entirely thus rendering the name outdated.
The name has been voted by the public and it will be called Liverpool Baltic station
Itwould simplify things even more if 'James Street' was renamed 'Pier Head'!
What year was this please
Looking at the grainy old footage I would say 80's/90's
A wonderfully engineered subterranean world. I am fascinated with these tunnels. One of the interesting features that I can't readily understand is why build the complex high vaulted tunnels (for example like in the Reversing Siding) when smaller tunnels just big enough to pass through, achieved the same result?
I think this is because Liverpool Central used to have the track bed at a higher level, although still in tunnel. When the new underground layout was built in the 1970s they used part of the original Liverpool Central approach tunnel but with a new line at a lower level, into a new underground station, so that's why that tunnel roof is so high now.
@@martin-mi3cg Hi. It's certainly a plausible explanation and I would expect that if this is the case we'd be able to determine where the older upper half and the newer lower cutting begins. Different phases of construction are usually easy to spot, so with the right images we should be able to test your 'lowered track's theory?
Super impressive, and amazing to see the lines I've travelled all my life in a different way
Many thanks for the video,I remember the train passing through Formby one Sunday afternoon e route from Southport it was pulled by Betty Beet’s Ivatt tender loco, I have a photo of the train passing through Formby ,it must have been the very last steam hauled train on the Southport to Liverpool line
Wow, what a great video, thanks for taking the time to share it with us.
Was single line working in force? or are all lines into Lime St station bidirectional? Thank you for posting this video.
In 1975 I was on a diesel loco, with my dad, from Freshfield Station to Lime Street station. It left around )7:30. There was a return train at 17:30 (or thereabouts.
Thanks for posting this, I always wanted to walk over there since my uncle told be about it 30 odd years ago! Shame its never been re-opened but I guess it makes it a bit too easy for the local yobs to throw bricks at passing trains
What a cool video...
0:33 Where is the current Earlestown on here?
It looks like the scene out of king Kong were he buckles the tracks with his back
the big qution is how would train crose one contrys main and bissy juction with train goging threw ege hill to lime street
As a Kid, I Remember the Policeman doing Point Duty, but I must question the date because I remember the Bobby being in a Black and White, Zebra striped stand, not standing on the Ground. I was born in 1959.
Enjoyable as always would love to know the title of the music used if possible, thanks in advance.
Hold on a minute, the train passed a red light at 22:04, that's not supposed to happen, and how come the automatic stop device didn't work? That's a bit suspicious.
The two white lights underneath are position lights, and both being white mean the train can pass for "shunting" movements, usually when trains going into sidings (like it does after passing the position lights). You can also see the train is routed to the Central Reversing Siding thanks to the "SG" theatre lights just above the red. If you look around TH-cam for "Merseyrail route learner" you'll see all the footage from this video including the original tuition commentary, explaining what's going on :)
On the second shot of Alexandra Dock Station, the remnants of the platform are still there, just out of camera shot on the left side. It`s now the arrival road for the dock system as they have recently, double tracked it for Arrive/ Depart.
I have worked on The Railway for over 30 years, all over Edge hill and the dock system. The Railway history attached to our city is amazing. Great Video.
What a great channel, right up my street 👍👍👍 Love these videos 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Whoever colourised this clip should be SHOT - the Corpy's buses are purple instead of fucking green!
Hope the platforms are wider than Central Station and the escalator is put in a better position.
Think you will find Liverpool central was designed when lot less footfall back in late 60s early 70s , so am sure designs will fit the capacity of today's footfall , this will take a lot of footfall away from central hopefully
