Catamaran Comparison: Performance Vs Cruising Explained
What’s happened? Have you given up on your journey? I hope not; I’m about to embark on a parallel path! 😂 I’ve been keenly following your process so far…
great video please let us know how it goes with the pie project
Great video and information. Looks like you have given me another rabbit hole to go down. I have heard it said that the nerds would inherit the earth!!! Looks like I am going to have to get in touch with my inner nerd. Thanks again!
Thanks for the video. Pretty sure there is a Kelly Slater Wave pool there too...just saying!
Thanks again for the comment and support.... I may have been watching the WSL longboard event there a few weeks 😁🤙
Just discovered your channel whilst trawling through aluminium cat builders. Glad I found it. I am much further behind you in the process so it will be educational and dare I say it "economical" to live vicariously through your channel. If you are happy taking a bunch of teenagers on a schoolies trip to Thailand solo then building a cat will be a walk in the park!!! Keep em coming. Many thanks
Stoked you found the channel and great to hear it's helping you and many others along the way as I plane hop to find a builder.... no point in all of us flying around 😁 As for schoolies... my word that's getting close. Typing this from the ferry between South and North Island in NZ off to see David so should have some more videos and content out soon. Thanks for the comment and support.
Hi Clint, I get the allure of building a custom aluminum performance cat, but I would say I think you’ll be much happier in the long run getting a quality used Outremer 51 for under $1M that’s been properly sorted and just go sailing. The aluminum cats I’ve been aboard that aren’t $2.5M builds, seem very cold and industrial, and definitely not built to the interior fit out you’ve seen on other cats you are comparing your build to. To build the boat you want and envision it’s going to end up costing you close to $2M, there just is no free lunch. Now if your heart is set on this build (which I totally understand), I’d just take a step back and see what’s available in the used market right now, before you pull the trigger.
Hey Kirk... great to hear from you as always and thanks as always for. your insight. You did send me down a rabbit hole of looking at Outremers and there are one or two decent 51's out there. I'm set on the Aluminium path this side as I'm looking at this on a longer time scale and doing my best, it's hard, to not get wrapped up in it all and get something ASAP. You are spot on about the finish... as I've gone deeper into the search the aluminium super structure part is the easy bit but getting top fit out skills is where the challenge is. I'm sure you splashing soon and cannot wait to see some pics !
Having had a Pescott Whitehaven built, I went up and became the labourer for as many days/weeks as I could so I knew what was going on, where and why things were done the way it was etc. It was a great experience and I learned so much about the boat that enabled me to just about fix anything on the boat in the future-- or at least know where to point the expert when they came on board.
I too have been thinking about faults some are finding in their new boats (Vagabond, Winns and RR2) I think part of it is that all these boats, are damn near the first (or in the first 5) of boats off the line. So I think there can be some room for forgiveness when the boat is the very first one-- Vagabond particularly. As well, there is also the issue that many of the faults are in gear that is supplied by outside suppliers--eg fridges, icemakers?? 'etc). All this points to try and follow the KISS principle as much as possible--I define 'technology' as "Shit that doesn't work" and with so many new ideas/technolgoy coming through there is bound to be a learning/development curve. Phil
Hey Phil - thanks as always for the comment and support. I have no doubt that I will have issues as I do a shake out this side as well but I, daily that is, keep brining myself back to KISS. As a nerd it's really hard for me as I love all the integration and gadgets but watching the latest Doodles episode where some of his config was wrong and with a push of a button they were pushing fuel out it just made me realise that as cool as that all is things can go wrong quickly.
@@sailing.destiny Exactly-- I'd rather have to more manual stuff but have the redundancy there. Also you, as much as possible, want to have stuff on the boat that you can repair and not have to reply on flying in engineers to remote places, just to get stuff repaired. The issues with the very modern diesel engines is a very good example
Great video. Ocean Marina is a great marina. As you would probably know, a number of manufacturers do their deliveries and commissioning there because you have access to a lot of suppliers. Living only 10 mins away from the marina, I knew Longreach manufacturer their cats there but I wasn’t aware Sea Cat were also there. Next time your over here, make sure you check out Bang Saray, a quiet little fishing village with same great bars and restaurants. Look forward to you decision. Cheers
Hey Craig - thanks so much for the comment and support. I will definitely check out Bang Saray as if I go this path then I will live near the build once Seacat are done. I'm more of an out the way quite guy so that village sounds spot on 😊 Thanks again !
Very interesting videos. I am looking at H&M or South Africa. SEA seems like a very interesting idea. At first I thought you were a bit nuts but yeah, not a bad idea. I hope you find a verticalish solution somewhere down there.
I am a bit nuts so take that as a compliment ... 😉 Being South African I also thought that would be a great option as I still have a lot of contacts there but from the research I have done the South African yards are up there in price with the rest of the first world yards. Let me know how the search goes please... always wanting to learn.
@@sailing.destiny for sure it’s a compliment, you’re going to have fun building this and one hell of story I bet. Only the crazy ones have fun 🤘😬🤘
Just saw your Sunreef comment…😂.
🤣 yip it's different horses for different courses. In my humble opinion Sunreef, in terms of finishes, are unmatched in the sailing catamaran game... BUT.. they don't focus on the weight and how I understand things for every 1ft of boat it is 1 ton so my 55ft would be +- 55 tons. I was looking at a Sunreef seriously as they are beautiful but when I realised I'd be motoring often changed my search.
@@sailing.destiny we have a Sunreef 50 and it weighs 33-tons wet about 35 tons fully fully loaded. The gross tonnage is 52 or something like that.
Epic... they really are BEAUTIFUL ! Actually for the fit out / colour options I'm going for are based on the style/look of a Sunreef 60 that I spotted in Sardinia a few weeks back.
Another yard who could reach out to finish the interior would be Sunreef. Just an idea…
Great idea but I doubt Sunreef would have time/capacity for my build as from what I know they are flat out which is great for them. Thanks for the comment and support 🙏
15:27 Love the bookmark folder "BWC" :D
thanks enjoying. look forward to seeing which way you go. May be in a similar situation in about 2 years
Thanks Andrew and appreciate the comment and so stoked to hear the videos are helpful. Plan is document the whole journey till we splash and then disappear into the void 😁
dude I’m exactly the same place 😂 I am 49, watching these youtube’s for years. I’ve even sailed in the Caribbean with some of them. I go to Cannes, La Rochelle and other boat festivals in Europe each year dreaming of boats for 1,5 million euro. Switching between Neel 52 and catamarans. Constant videos about boats on YT drives my girlfriend crazy. Now I am at a stage of buying a smaller floating home like the new FP 41 for 400k € just to see if I would not get bored sailing all the time. It’s better having 400k standing in a marina waiting than 1,5 mill 😂 anyway, thanks for the content
49 years young my man. Sounds like we are mirroring our lives on the YT obsession 😊 I still personally believe that the 2nd hand market HAS to soften hard at some stage... but who knows when. I hear you about rather going now than later... I do know that I'll forever wonder if I don't go ahead with this dream so full steam ahead this side. Thanks for the comment and support 🙏
@@sailing.destiny God only knows what awaits us in the next years if we ever will be able to live on water like the youtubers. We in Europe are preparing for war with Russia, economic meltdown, inflows of millions of immigrants, upcoming pandemics with new lockdowns and WEF making everything even more fun with "owning nothing and being happy by 2030" 😅
@@bitkong9445 you've just summed up a lot of reasons as to why I am building Destiny.... to run away from it all... 😁 Klaus and his friends will have to come find me in remote South Pacific somewhere...
@@sailing.destiny well I was sailing the Caribbean January 2020 and short after I left them covid hysteria started. They were pushed away everywhere they went and had to stay almost a year on Santa Lucia. I've bought land in the mountains of South America in worst case scenario. Only thing will be if we will be able to get there without a boat when SHTF too rapidly..
Nice ! Yip the C19 thing caught us all off guard I think. We were not allowed to leave Australia for a long time which felt very constricted for sure !
Well done. Looking forward to Episode # 8 which might be I signed the contract.
Thanks Bob and thanks again for all your help and generous sharing of time and information to date. The end of the year is fast approaching so I need to make some decisions soon 😊
@@sailing.destiny Will give it a break for a while. Your got alot to digest and a lot of due dilligence to do from your trip.
A jet thruster should not cost that much .. its nozels pipes and a high power industrial electric impeller pump. .. Its just like water makers and filter/treatment systems you can build you own . The other thing with the system is the pump system can be maintained ..whilst in the water.. and locked off.
Thanks for the comment as always. Will look deeper into this and if I can get it done more affordably then it really will be a no brainer 🙏
One cautionary note on E navigation systems watch this weeks Parlay revival and what happened to some of Collins mates and a case of a reef that wasn't there untill they ran into it then looked again 😬 The mistral and other wild winds in the med can really make a mess of your boat and sink even a superyatch at anchor.. usually though because the harbour walls are often bare concrete or Stone . You went to the N Med specifically Italy in the main Holliday weeks ... 😂 Even the local Mafia leave its nuts. Cruising equivalent of circulating the Arc d Triumph in rush hour. Anchoring round the major island resourts in windy conditions is like being in a bowling alley... And superyatchs occasionally run down other vessels or ramming harbour walls. Check out E Sysman Superyatchs.
Yip I spotted that last episode on Parlay about Navionics.... crazy ! The wild west indeed it was 🤣
Gidday Clint - great video - love how you are joining the dots for opportunities - following with interest as we are about a year behind you. you're travelling a lot - going to the Annapolis boat show?
Hey Annie-May. Thanks so much for the comment and great to hear that you are finding the content beneficial as that's my main intent. Yip, travelling a bunch and in Bangkok now off to see 3 more, hopefully, boat yards here over the next 2 weeks. I am 50/50 with Annapolis right now... spoke to David about it last last week and he suggested I go. Are you heading there ? Thanks again Clint
@@sailing.destiny giddy Clint - sorry for taking so long to get back to you. just got back from 3 weeks in China. we are going to be there for the first couple of days
What are you talking about. I'm not interested in all of your ideas, feelings or understandings. I want to learn about how the boat is put together, why some things are done said way. And how they make the parts of the craft. You are not important for my understanding of this. You are just some ass hole jumping on the band wagon, trying to make something off, someones else hard work.
This is the same boat that was supposed to launch in May of 2022 well over 2 years ago. I suggest people considering this cat or the other brands you mentioned this competes with do their due diligence.
Hey Kirk - great to hear from you and hope all is 👌 Yip, I think I mention somewhere in the video that the project\model started just at the pandemic hit and then things shut down. But yes, you are spot on with what you saying about checking in with all the manufacturers and doing the proper due diligence. Thanks as always for the support and comment.
Not the whole story, but nothing a google search won’t inform people of so they can decide for themselves. Hope the overall process is going well!
Really nice looking boat. The first real test will be under sail - while fully loaded for cruising - to see the bridgedeck clearance, where she sits relative to her design waterline, and her true performance under sail.
Hey Donald - thanks as always for the comment and support. She really is a beautiful boat and I could have looked at her for hours.... if it was not 50 Deg's C 🥵🤣 Based on Mike's DNA, strong racing background, and speaking to Danie about his choices the payload and weight has always been front and center of their decision making process so I'm sure she'll fly ! Super excited for the whole team to see how she goes 🤞⛵️🚀
really interesting boat-- I'm not convinced by all electric... starts to break the KISS rule-- you don't need to be a diesel mechanic but you do need to be an electrician! I'm also wary of so much electricity in a salt environment. For me, my preference is still twin outboards. My boat had twin 20 hondas and they were brilliant! a third of the cost, third of the weight and no need for folding props, sail drives etc and of course no drag when sailing. Top speed loaded was 9 knots which is great for going against a strong current coming into a reef. BTW those curved dagger boards look damn sexy on Seaquest ! Phil
Hey Phil - thanks as always for the comment. I hear you about all electric and my "conditioning" alarm bells went off this side. I'm doing a deep dive into this, looking at plenty of redundancies, and even gave David the heads up. I think he's just relieved I'm not hounding him for a Fly Bridge 🤦♂️🤣 Super excited to see the data when the SQ46 splashes as I continue my research this side as well.... I do tend to take the alternative path. Thanks again mate 🙏
Hi mate sailing Uma have been using an ocean volt system for over a year including their trip to Svalbard and Iceland..then through scotland..and Uma didnt even have space for a built in generator or much solar. They have also being talking toilets.. so listen to their take on it all. There's a whole lot of areas of the world (All Europe) where flushing toilets on new boats have to be connected to black tanks .. dry heads come in many forms... The problem is still disposal of the solids and liquid wastes. Whalle maceraters and pumps seem to work the best for flushing systems. The way to avoid smells and calcification blocking pipes is to use freshwater flushing ..and minimise the length of any effluent pipe to the black water tanks. And even discharge off shore has to be treated in some regions. See Nautistyles on fitting out their Berings explorer yatch.. and their onboard system...
Hey Clive, thanks as always for your comment and support. From what I know, limited, the Seaquest team have been in touch with Sailing Uma and comparing notes. I cannot wait for them to splash so that I can get access to their data first hand. I am also going down the electric rabbit hole this side as part of my research. As for toilets - after just coming off a charter in Sardinia and one of the black water tanks went down ... well composting is looking VERY good. From how I understand the system that the SQ team have chosen is that the No 1's can get directly fed out and the No 2's stay in the compost which means no sewerage = no smell.
Hi Clint, hey I’d suggest doing a google search on Seaquest Catamarans…
After 8 years of cruising, 1.5 circumnavigation, I define the cruising lifestyle as “extreme freedom” lifestyle. When I explain this to friends and family back home in Switzerland, they just don’t get it… extreme freedom, what is that compared to what we already have here?
Amen Sir ... what we have here is in my, often strong opinion, is not what humans are designed to thrive in. Stuck behind desks and commutes for half your day is not good for one soul. Thanks for all the comments and support and I look forward to chatting in person
I will definitely follow your progress on this one. I have met Out Chasing Stars, and I agree that their OpenCPN playlist is great.
The test in Sardinia went well... although the mapping there is super simple and deep everywhere. It's the integration I'm really excited about. Got my Raspberry Pi 5 here so will unbox it soon and start nerding out 🤓
Clint, my wife and I are also looking at moving to a Nahoa 55 from a 55ft mono (8 years cruising). I will get in touch with you to see where we can build them. Vietnam is an option…
Magic... and please do. You can get me at clint@sailingdestiny.com If our time lines are similar then could be beneficial to both of us as chatting to shipyards about 2 builds rather than one can add some negotiation power 😊
Hey Clint, I’m just starting to watch your videos because I’m looking at David de Villier’s aluminum catamarans. This video struck a chord with me because I’m just taking a year off from cruising after 8 years afloat on an Oyster 55. I needed that break to get the boat out of my mind for a while, to not have to constantly worry about something like dragging anchor, bad weather or a fire. I thought I was going to give up the sailing life, but after a few months on land, my wife and I realized that what we love is being on the water on a boat. So instead of looking for a new house somewhere in Italy, we are now looking at catamarans at boat shows and doing sea trials. It’s interesting to watch your evolution in selecting a boat and what emotions you are going through in the process.
Thanks so much for the comment. My "game plan" is to spend about 9 months a year on board to give myself space and time to do land things (love snowboarding and climbing mountains) so that I don't fall out of love with my biggest joy. Thanks for the comment and support and look forward to chatting about your Nahoa 55 plans
Exciting Clint - following with interest.
Thanks - yip an unexpected coincidence that looks promising !
Hi Clint< I'm embarking on the same endeavour as you are undertaking. I'm probably 6 -9 months behind. So thanks for your information.
Awesome to hear and that's my main intention of this channel to help others who want to go down this path...
Agree with every word Clint, and I respect your courage for sharing your perspective.
Thanks so much for the support Donald. This information is not for everyone pallet but it's important to at least think about it .. 🙏
Illuminati, Rothchild brainwash indoctrination system
One does not need to look far to put the pieces of the puzzle together. Thanks for the comment and support 🙏
You are so right with a lot of this!
Thanks for the comment and support.. and it's for sure one of the times when you'd prefer not to be right 🤦♂️
David de villiers from westerford got it right . Q the ocean adventurer 😊
Clint, you have no idea how this video intrigued me, I had a 44 ft Kelsal cat 20 years ago based in Bazaruto. I have been researching ever since, exploring the various options of purchasing a new boat or building my own, along the lines you are doing. The most amazing thing is that she will be called Dignity by Decan Blue. I am so happy you cocked the name up. Anyone who knows me will be able to confirm this. Good luck with your build, I will be following along keenly.
Hey Bruce - thanks so much for the comment and that's CRAZY about the song 🤯 Yip - good thing that I got it all messed up and look forward to Destiny and Dignity sharing an anchorage one day. Thanks for sharing that... so so cool ! Side note - surprised you found the video as it does not have many views (think it's a copyright thing but still learning the TH-cam ways. 😊 )
Hi Clint I'm doing the same thing as you I've been talking to David for about a year or longer. I came across your show after the first episode. But I'm about a year behind where you are so ill be watching with great interest. Keep up the good work
Hey Daniel - thanks for the comment and kind words. Epic to hear you are also chatting to David and also going this path. Stoked that you found the channel and the whole intention here is to document my journey so that others can benefit from my mistakes, assuming there will be many 🤦♂, and have a more streamlined build when they get to that part. Have you decided on which model you are going for yet... with a Fly Bridge... of course.... 😊
@sailing.destiny I've been waiting on the Nahoa as well to see it once it's finished. I have been looking at building it myself and Laser welding it. I just want to be able to fit a fishing boat on the back. I'd be interested in seeing the price on hot works if you are able to share
@@danielporter9193 I don't have any pricing yet but reach out to Geoff directly and I am sure he will share the pricing when he has it. As for the fishing boat on the back... I am also going to have a decent size tender so that I can get to surf/dive spots quickly but have David in my head/ear thinking about the weight of it and the impact on performance.
David told me the same thing about the added weight. I'm a Australian and I love the top end fishing. With the average adult male salt-water croc being 5.2m ill sacrifice a bit of proformance while I'm going around the tropics here.
Holy... I hear you about the crocs... they scare the shit about me. I keep telling David that I am a minimalist with clothing and most things... until it comes to all my ocean toys then I have a bit of a "habit" ... but due to the fact that I don't have a lot of "stuff" then all the ocean toys are permitted 🤣
Hey Clint, Rupert Verwey here also from South Africa 😅. Funny you mentioned the Mumby cats as I did buy the Mumby 48 DIY plans and will contact Jeff to get pricing to build my boat.
Howzit boet. Thanks for the comment and support. Geoff sent me some updated pictures of the Mumby he is building and it's moving along nicely.... his website should be in the description of this video but let me know if you need help connecting with him... and ... don't steal my build slot 🤣
@@sailing.destiny trust me, I still need to work another 10 years before I can have my boat built🥴, maybe end of next year if I get a loan 😅
@@wanabesailer9599 I'm sure you can get it done quicker than that... but follow along my journey so that I can make the mistakes for you so you don't have to make them 🤣 Thanks again for the comment and support. Dankie 🙏
So I had my pescott 11.7 built by a single builder in Noosa 17 years ago. What I learned from this was: You need to really need to trust your builder-- They are most of the time working on the boat without you being there. If you're paying on a time and materials basis, you really need to trust the builder. A sign of a good boatbuilder is clean and organised shed. Not necessarily tidy but organised. Are the tools looked after, are the resins and cloth (not relevant to you) organised etc. Ideally you want your boat builder to be completely anal! Ie attention to detail. Ross was fanatical and while he was not the fastest, he only did things once and they were well done. I was there when he was building the daggerboards, his attention to detail was amazing! I pretty much lost all of my arguments with him and only two of them do I sort of regret. I also traveled to Noosa to be a labourer on the boat-- learned shit loads and loved every minute of it. Finally, it will go over budget-- have lots of spare cash but again your builder should be warning you about this and as long as you trust him it should work out. btw, avoid teak decks, they're a total pain in the arse! Phil
Hey Phi - appreciate your sharing your experience in such great depth... sounds like you had an awesome build experience. Good news this side is that I think I have locked in a VIP "build angel" which will help me along the way to ensure that I maintain the quality I am looking for. As for the teak deck... agree 100 % and what I "meant" to say was a teak finish deck not real teak... will look at flexideck or something equivalent when I get there. The whole focus on the build will be to KISS both in construction and ongoing maintenance. Thanks again for the comment and support ! 🙏
@@sailing.destiny re decks, the issue is heat. Flexi teak is great as a teak alternative, but heat is the issue especially if one wants to go barefoot and/or lie on the decks. Even light grey decks get hot compared to white decks. I'm enjoying the videos and discussions
Thanks Phil - appreciate the compliment. Will go down the decking rabbit hole when I get closer to fit out but I hear you about the heat (says me who wants to vinyl wrap her in Black 🤦♂️). Cork has also been mentioned for both internal and eternal decking which sounds interesting.
PS welds crack!
Clint: do yourself a a favor take a Tour of Boings Seattle assembly plant and look at how they construct a aircraft air frame and sheath the hull! these are EXTREEMLY STRONG [ STRONGER THAN A SAILBOAT!] And they are NOT welded yet they are water tight and can take extreme temperature changes from Tropic to negative temps at 40K ft while pressurized! likewise Tractor trailer 50ft truck bodies can handle the constant thrashing of roads and handle desert heat and still be Refrig! In both cases these vehicles are built to meet extreme Environments they need to be as light as possible .....think about that as you fly around the World ! in both cases these craft are NOT WELDED! SHOULD YOU DESIGN A SAILBOAT to these standards a damaged boat hull can be repaired anywhere even a desert Island! No expert welders required and a sailboat designed to be built this way can be fabricated to be shipped World wide in kit form to any body anywhere ! this provides for expansion of the CLASS and propagation of construction....let's talk! Hey Norman. Thanks for the detailed comment and suggestion. I'm mapping out a snowboard trip for early next year and If I do head state side I will definitely check out the boing factory - sounds super cool. Thanks for the comment and support !
You should also have a chat with Pete AKA plucky as his boats being built in Vietnam ..hes a wild Australian... Sailing into Freedom is his channel. Also look at Odd lifes monohull build in France.. for technical comparison. The other people and area to look at is Nautistyles and their contacts in Turkey... where they have a massive boat building and engineering base. Its also easy to get to and earning rates are competitive.
Hey Clive - thanks so much for the comment. I've been in touch with the Odisea team already just trying to get over my Vietnam curse 🤦♂️ I will check out Odd Life's channel and by memory David does have a contact in Turkey already so will pursue that as well. 🙏
I have built two trimarans, both with dagger boards, and one also had ama foils. We twice took on coral and lost, but the damage to the structure around the head of the boards is the show stopper. Even at 5kts you will spend a lot of time and money fixing this damage. A friend with a 65’ tri needed to find some heavy duty hydraulic equipment to extract the d/b from the carnage caused before he could start fixing the board and all the structure around it. Having learned that lesson we built the second boat with a frangible tip to the board, but it still needed significant downtime to repair I know that Tim Mumby installs a very simple d/b 1:1 control system on his aluminium cats but most others need quite heavy and expensive winches and various lines and jammers If I were to have another cruising multi it would certainly not have daggerboards. Kick up centreboards as John Marples designs them are however a different kettle of fish tho’ I am unaware of any twin c/b catamarans out there I wonder what Nahoa will go for this time?
Thanks so much for sharing your experience and right now the dagger board debate is still up in the air this side. My initial, although uninformed, gut feel is exactly what you describe where you do hit something then you are stuck. My intention with Destiny is to go far off the beaten track so KISS is where it is at. Having said that Elcie, David's 62, did have daggerboards and knowing that David has the KISS methodology I am sure he will have a way. From what I know Nahoa are not going for daggerboards but this is on the list for me to talk to David about and come up with the cost benefit analysis later this year. Thanks for the comment and support and for sharing your experience 🙏
Sounds like you totally under estimated it at the start. Just designing the interior, we have been working on it for almost 2 years. There's so many small things. Know the Nahoa and some of the choices they made. There's always compromise for everything. Just as you did: determine your usage and then decide.
Hey Walter - if you referring to me underestimating how much time and "ripple affect" each change made... then yes... you are 100 % correct. Was eye opening to sit with David and I'm so glad that I went to see him in person so that I could fully understand the process. Yip, I am going to go with about 97 % of what Nahoa have designed with one or two small tweaks that David also feels are good ideas and worth the time/money to make the change. Thanks for the comment and support.
@@sailing.destiny Yes that's what I meant. Even for us, (experienced sailors) designing a boat is a big project. But make sure you know what you want because them designers are often lazy to make any changes, saying. cannot/difficult etc. And then the next day you see someone who did what you wanted. So be very clear in your requirements before you decide on a compromise on your wishes.
Thanks for the comment and my whole logic/thinking behind going with David is leveraging the 20+ years that Delos and Nahoa have from experience as live aboards and capitalising on that. What yacht are you planning on or building ?
@@sailing.destiny Understand, totally support that thought. We actually live aboard for over a decade ourselves, obviously know them. Boats are very personal, for instance I want a bath in my new boat, and a piano. And care less for performance, more for comfort. All personal choices. Similarly, we want a furling boom and dislike lazy jacks.
Looking forward to seeing your Nahoa 55 build start
Thanks so much for the comment. Yip... going to be a magical when we she starts getting built that's for sure... got to visit a few ship yards first to find the best fit.
Listen to David and keep it simple. The less fancy stuff the better. You will have less to maintain, and more time sailing!
Yes Sir.... I keep reminding myself that KISS is the way to go. Thanks for the comment and support.
Always remember: a camel is a horse designed by a committee. Building in once place, doing trades in another, from a design /designer in another, across different languages….thats just NOT efficient. Close your eyes and imagine the “perfect” situation: it would be doing EVERYTHING in one place. Anything that varies from that is a compromise.
Thanks for the comment and LOVE the camel analogy 🤣 Yip - in hind sight.. I think you can even see it in my thought process when I was recording... that I realised by splitting trades through shipyards I was just looking for trouble. But really appreciate your insight to help me stay focussed on one yard. 🙏
Am sorry, no troll jere, but only pictures (no technical details ) and screenshot of internet, no video, i appreciated the interview with Devillier, but am afraid i prefer to look things more real in a construction or planning. Fair sea, am living.
I hear you and your points are valid.... BUT... this channel is just an outlet for me and will never be a documentary type "vlog style" that the other channels do so well. I am not running this as a business and personally value my time so as not to constantly be filming everything and rather immerse myself where I am.... so that's why one take wonders is where it's at. Thanks for watching though and sending love.
Clint, it is ok to build in country a and fitout in country b, but you cannot sail or motor between them and shipping cost will kill your "saving"
Yip it's going to be interesting if that even is an option and will start to get those numbers this week. Will report back and thanks as always for the comment and support
@@sailing.destinyhaving run supply chains across 35 countries over 43 years I can tell you that your chances of success are VERY SLIM if you elect to do different trades in different countries. You are falling back on your “boer maak’n plan” confirmation bias. You will regret it.
@@stevenschapera2888 fair point and thanks for your earlier comment as well. One yard wonder is the goal... 🤙
You've really got to learn how to do a presentation. Maybe being prepared, have things organized both in your mind and on paper before proceeding. If a company was relying on you to sell a product, they'd go Broke. The End. AD.
