I started this Channel years ago as a way to share photos of family and friends. There is no rhyme, reason, plan or intent. It simply replaces the old photo album and Saturday evening slide projector that we used to inflict pain on unwary visitors.
Indoor G-Scale Model Railway
Welcome to the whimsical world of what I'd call, The Eclectic Central Railway. Strictly a low-budget, spur of the moment production, the video captures some of the wild imagination that went into building this empire. Music: Jitterbug Waltz, composed by Fats Waller, featuring Peter Brown from his Franklin Street CD, which came out in 2008.

This collection of 'somewhat random' stills and videos was assembled by me to share in person with the Cambridge Model Railway Club. It may not make complete sense to anyone else but should have enough content to entertain a typical railfan - especially if you're interested in the CPKC in the Great White North. Mostly though, I just enjoy travelling around the country connecting with friends an...

Eyes, cameras and phones try to compensate for the amount of available light by changing "settings" such the opening of the pupil in a human eye. Walking into a darkened theatre is a good example. The eye has to open up to let in more light. As an eclipse starts, the eye has time to compensate for the darker condition by opening to allow more light to enter. That's why, even though it was getti...

Before my TH-cam Channel there were DVD's. Here's one for another February 17th. Crude by today's standards but unbelievably exciting back then. From the DVD vault, ripped and uploaded to TH-cam. I really should start from scratch with this one.

A typical afternoon in the life of Emily, hunting for rocks amid water and trees, September 1, 2022. Coincidentally, that afternoon we spoke with a UofT professor (from New Zealand) and one of his geology students. Music, appropriately enough, by Katherine Wheatley, another special girl, who loved rocks and water and trees, while growing up in Parry Sound - Water Moves Me, Special Girl.

Back on Wed, Jun 11, 2008 at 11:16 PM, I wrote to Heather to tell her that I'd bought a small Panasonic digital recorder. A file from the backyard I sent to Singapore back then returned just recently. That started a mission to extract more files from the recorder including clips of a four-year-old A2 singing in the kitchen as I clattered around in the background. Audio quality it's not... but p...

Won't be any kids moving back home into the basement apartment, huh? Love it.
Plenty of room under the layout... ;-) Shame about the racket above.
This is very calming, I feel like I'm heading into Mr. Rogers Neighbourhood
Partially due to the Fats Waller cover no doubt but I get the Mr. Rogers reference. There is something fascinating about things in motion.
This was pretty cool to watch! Is it normal that G-scale is less detailed and has worse sound than what you get in H0 scale or can you get very detailed and great sounding models in G-scale as well?
I'm not into G-Scale myself so don't have first hand experience. Since HO is the most popular it would make sense that most of the development takes place in that scale. That shouldn't make any difference for sound equipment. One size fits all. Realistically, the large scale "should" have better sound. As far as detail goes, how deep are your pockets? Remember those magnificent old brass steam engines from years ago? Plastic technologies, like used in HO, could produce phenomenally detailed engines and rolling stock in G but the tooling costs would be equally phenomenal - made worse by the proliferation of prototypes. G-scalers are lucky to get a few basic examples, painted to look vaguely like the real thing. Another thought, G stands for Garden. Think about it... Who cares what something looks or sounds like when it's rolling through the roses? Artists can explain about viewing distance. Ever look at a Monet? Pointillism up close is crap. From a distance? Incredible!
SHOEE! That there be mighty confusing to me over stressed brain. Four years of WOKE has taken a tole.
Very nice! Love the jazz piano music as well.
Thanks Chris. That's Peter Brown playing. He's a friend and professional musician down by Ottawa. I'll include a credit in the description shortly.
Awesome channel great video keep them up make sure you like and subscribe thank you for your support
@@markofthenorth8918 Thanks Mark - somewhere in the palm I gather. ;-)
Great video!
Thanks! It's actually not quite finished. Needs a description. Was waiting for Hans to come up with a name for the railway. I suggested "The Eclectic Central". Something of an oxymoron - nothing personal. ;-)
WOW....riding the rails actually gave me shivers. Enjoyed this video & I'm not even close to being a train aficionado.
The funny thing is how it was unplanned. We just showed up with a camera and cell phone and freelanced it. At this moment Hans hasn't even seen it.
great hope ffor more
Be patient. :)
Awesome share! Thank you!
Nice before and after. Look forward to the next installment.
Might be a long wait! Another 35 years? ;-)
Cambridge Ontario? do you take part in the double headers tour they have there ? I am also in Cambridge Ontario
Yeah. We've chatted in the past Sparky. I recognize your "name". I've gone on the Doubleheaders Tour quite a few times over the years. The club met here a few days ago so I put this slideshow together to entertain them when the meeting was over.
Great viewing…so happy to have stopped by to view your ‘Labour of love’ 🚂Toot,Toot
A really interesting video. Quote....."Attention to detail is not about perfection. It's about excellence, it's about constant improvement." Enjoyed the historical info. toot toot 🚂
Enjoyed that. Love seeing old bikes.
And old music eh? :-)
Have motorcycle🏍️will travel👌
Looks great and moves right along ! What hp engine is on that? I I built on for my grandson but so far I’m the only one driving it! lol. Nice to see another senior having fun in one of these ! Keeps us young right !? 🇺🇸👍🙋♂️👏🖖🏻
9.9 Evinrude. It is a young persons toy! Not too sure about keeping young but it is incredibly exhausting driving it around the lake. Another reason to keep active. Did you build the float plane? Flying in the UP I'm assuming. (Used to live in the Soo.)
Great little video! Thanks!!
No 🌒show here
Darker there than achieved here in CB.
Excellent Scott. Very professional.....music, narrative, video, stills... & TRAINS.....big ones, unlike the ones in your basement. 👍
Ha! Thanks Maureen. Appreciate the feedback. The next one "should" be better!
Well put together Scott…Enjoyed the 🚂 journey Toot,Toot!
Thanks Dear! Maybe next time I'll be able to make it over your way.
..Exposing yourself? Bad choice of title, mate.
Could be worse. Was considering "Exposing Myself On UK Rail"... ;-)
You look great, good video
Nice music SS.....good choice. Love the shores of Georgian Bay, esp. the western. 😉
It's to bad that the island was shut down and the people moved. I love to go and visit when I came back from Ontario.
I feel pretty fortunate having been there. We were camping at Springdale, had an extra day and saw the sign to the ferry. Just drove down on a lark, arriving as the ferry came in. What luck! Did you grow up on the island? I'm in Cambridge, Ontario.
A very intriguing project. Enjoyed your visit during my first summer living on the island.
Fert'n out yer soup....

Nice, works well with Vivaldi!
Thanks! If you have any suggestions, don't be shy next time we're chatting.
Great pics Scott. Love the music. I think I've seen a rig like that in my CB driveway.
Thanks Maureen. It was a great day in an amazing Summer.
I wonder what day we were visiting when both parents were delivering food non-stop?
That was 07-16 according to EXIF. ;-)
WOW that turn across the tracks was amazing. Those articulated trailers are to versatile
Yeah! I'm not even too sure what they're called. Articulated floats? Real "guy-stuff". ;-)
@@SSandA2 there is a company in Ayr Equipment Express that does heavy moves too. they have a wide selection of trucks and BIG forklifts, and in recent years they use these trailers for 9/10 of their jobs. They have the drivable motorized kind too that do lateral expansion, they get very long
Any idea on the cost of the move?
I understood the city budgeted $650k for the move. That cost likely included a lot of planning and preparation work at both ends.
Thank you for taking the time to capture the magic.
Thanks Monika! It was a fun way to spend the Summer, exploring places and meeting some great folks.
Well done. Thanks for sharing.
Rick says: "Very cool, Scott!"
Great stuff, Scott. Thanks for sharing!
Hi, its Craig....been a few years since we played together but hoping to get back together soon to write and play some dates.
Hi Craig. Did we "talk" a while back? I remember someone contacted me (maybe in 2015?) after I posted this video. For some reason I think it was Brian but I've been wrong before. Whoever it was he said he was in Ontario - Muskoka or Huntsville possibly. That would be great if you guys got together. Nostalgia eh? Where are you now? I'm in Southern Ontario, hence Cambridge Slideshows, but spend much of my Summers in the Maritimes. Scott
BTW, here's where I used the songs from the CD: th-cam.com/video/E2NVKxvwZRc/w-d-xo.html
I will be visiting Wheels Through Time as soon as possible! It was great to meet you at the pub. -Mitch
Thank you for talking a lot with me at Animal Kingdom today! I’m a Japanese cast member who works at ice cream cart. It was magical moment for me!!
Don't worry! I couldn't forget you. I even remember your name because (I think) it's the same as a Japanese toy manufacturer. Sorry I was so worn out but I enjoyed your stories anyway. Did you see the "Mirai in Canada" slideshow?
He was one talented man. He is missed by this family and so many good friends. Still does not feel real. RIP my brother n law

You're welcome Gary!
A one of a kind man that will be missed by so many. I will miss hearing come on in the house girl every time I went for a visit. Love you Rest in Peace my brother n law
One of the greatest men in my life i knew , Johnnie and I made a guitar together something i have too remember him Love you Brother-in-law
My wife was wondering what song you used on the first part of the video. Thanks for the compilation, it was great to go through.
That's Guelph based folk singer Tannis Slimmon singing about her bicycle. Tannis also sings with Katherine Wheatley and Jude Vadala as Boreal. Thanks for commenting!
Thanks for the info, grabbed a copy from CDBaby.
I don't know Jude but Katherine and Tannis will be singing at The River Run Centre in Guelph on December 1st as Boreal. They put on a great show. I met Katherine years ago at a folk festival in Toronto. Somewhere on my TH-cam Channel (SSandA2) there are early slideshows of a couple of their weekend songwriter workshops. I can't carry a tune in a bucket but it was a wonderful experience anyway.
Nice slideshow!
Thanks! There seems to be a problem with it playing from the start. I may have to upload it again. Likely a problem with Facebook... surprise! BTW Alpenglow, you can cover a lot more ground on a bicycle... ;-)
SSandA2 That's for sure! By the way, I did a number on my shins/ankles in the last week of my Bruce Trail thru hike. They were extremely sore and swollen. Anyway, no pain, no rain, no Maine...oops...this year I should say no Tobermory:-)
At least it's not PA - where hiking boots...
SSandA2 Maybe I should! The 71 km hike in one day from Walters Falls to Owen Sound probably didn't help either! 😀
Just a minute here... now where did I leave my world's smallest violin? ;-)
This is a touching slideshow!
Another great slideshow! Thanks!
Thanks for posting this! Quite a few Railway City riders in there!
