      Definitely can’t ignore your own health. 👍🏼 But with bipolar there can be a gray area of not being sure or thinking that you can do certain things when it turns out you shouldn’t have. Or vice versa. This is why it can be hard to say no.

    3:03 man I can relate to this so so much. I got my diagnosis at 30 and looked back at my history the exact same way. Now knowing I have bipolar this has been illuminating.

  • @mysterionz
    @mysterionz วันที่ผ่านมา

    I got diagnosed by my doctor at the end of May, about two weeks after turning 20. I had been experiencing extreme mood swings, anger that appeared out of nowhere (I thought it was my antidepressants not working), and an event that occurred the year before where I spent more than half of my savings account (about $2000 on art supplies from Amazon). The story is very long and would require a video on me explaining my experiences. Long story short, I damaged my bank account and my mom, dad and stepdad were mad at me. During this time I was questioning if it could be bipolar as my mom has bipolar and it’s often genetic. At the start of this year I began seeing a new doctor from the same telehealth company my mom and stepdad see. After the first few months of seeing her, I went on and off various dosages of anxiety meds and antidepressants. I even went on Adderall for a month to try and reduce the extreme symptoms thinking it was my adhd, but I had to go off the adderall as it made my heart rate too high when exerting myself. During one of my recent appointments, I brought up the extreme shopping spree story of July 2023 and how my mood was unstable at work. That same appointment I was sent a prescription of mood stabilizers which I’ve been taking for about two and a half months now. The mood stabilizers have worked in making me more stable and my episodes less severe.

      @mysterionz วันที่ผ่านมา

      There’s always a chance I could have another manic/hyomanic episode in the future. Music and drawing have helped me. I ended up having to tell my boss at work about my diagnosis as a few days before my doctors appointment I had two manic episodes at work over absolutely nothing that was even a problem, which was a coworker consuming gum while on the clock. I remember going on and on about it and I felt like I was losing control. The good old weekly ad flyer we get every week also sometimes triggers my episodes. During my highs, I remember having delusions that I was a superhero, God, a celebrity, or even some celestial figure. Everyone would worship and bow down to me and would respect my authority. I was super talkative and trailing on and on without feeling a need to stop. No triggers and would happen unprovoked. The next few shifts I was nearly silent, not moving a lot, my tone was super quiet. I felt like I had been drained and I felt sad for no reason. A coworker had pointed out that I was acting majorly different from my usual demeanor. Thankfully my sleep cycles were never really messed up. I also learned recently that bipolar is a spectrum, kinda like how autism (which I’m also diagnosed with) is a spectrum.

    • @ourbipolar
      @ourbipolar 13 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      I’m so glad that the mood stabilizer is helping. I also think that bipolar is a spectrum. Based on having gotten to know quite a few people with bipolar, I think I probably fall somewhere in the middle in terms of severity. Those of us who respond to meds are lucky (not that it’s lucky to have bipolar).

      @@ourbipolar going on medication is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I unfortunately experienced a bit of depression for no reason today, so maybe upping my antidepressants again will help. I went back down to a 10mg dose on the antidepressants I take via approval from my doctor. Next appointment im going to ask about bringing up my antidepressant dosage, but I have to be careful as antidepressants can sometimes make mania/hypomania a lot worse.

    • @ourbipolar
      @ourbipolar 12 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, please be very careful taking an antidepressant. I know for bipolar 1, most people cannot take an antidepressant because it can cause mania. Some people with bipolar 2 do well on a low dose of an antidepressant, however. For me personally, I was on an antidepressant when I was first diagnosed with bipolar 1 and it caused terrible cycling.

    I have had several manic episodes in my life. On my TH-cam channel you can see when I went to japan suddenly in an overnight decision and got “stranded” there back in 2009. Literally dropped my TH-cam channel and my job and everything overnight and went to live in Japan and didn’t come back til 2017 (divorced with 2 kids… :|) And after the manic episode went away I became extremely depressed. In 2017 I also left Japan in a manic episode with my 2 kids in an overnight decision. We came to America with no money, nowhere to live, a couple backpacks full of favorite toys and 1 large suitcase of clothes. We were homeless because of that. My ex husband divorced me (he was abusive anyway) I wanted to end my life in Japan and when I left o was planning on doing it but left instead. I thought my life would get better in America but it didn’t.. it was just as bad but different. Later I got a job for $11/hr at a bank and I was still depressed. The bank had a clinic on the main corporate campus that I could go to for free so I went there and they put me on anti depressants. On the anti depressants I had constant intrusive thoughts about crashing my car and I felt like I could hear screaming in my head. I quit my job abruptly from the bank and went back to work at Walgreens (where I worked before the bank but no insurance) and I was lucky enough to find a forensic psychiatrist ?? At a clinic in Oklahoma City that operates on a sliding scale. I told him about the anti depressants and quitting my job and Japan and he let a keep taking the same and observed me for about a year. He saaw me stable and hesaw me very depressed and he saw me manic (but I just seemed happy and like I was making progress in life) but then when I got depressed he put me on a different anti depressant and I asked him if it causes you seeing and hearing stuff. He asked me what I meant and I said that I always see cockroaches lately but I can never find them and me and my kids looked everywhere for them even tho my kids said they never saw any bugs. So I thought I was just seeing things and it was a side effect. And that someone was knocking on my window but my kids never heard anything or saw anything and I set up a camera and it never recorded anything so I must me imagining it. He was like “hmmm no it shouldn’t cause that” but he kept observing me. Then shortly after starting this new anti depressant and about 2 weeks later I was fully in a MIXED episode where I was manic but also depressed somehow and had a major freakout at my job and quit suddenly and he wanted to see me and call me every 2-3 days and that is when he diagnosed me with bipolar 1 and I started taking Abilify and one other med I can’t remember what it’s called now.. I took that for a few years and it was “okay” but then I had another major breakdown in 2021 and got switched to Latuda which is what I take now. So that’s my bipolar 1 story.. or some of it anyway. Thanks for reading lol.

    Im 17 male, As a kid I used to hit my self in the head, punching etc, I’ve grown out of that but now, I’ve realized recently I’m depressed, never want to admit it but I am. My parents even asked me after I had a tantrum when I was 14 and said “we think your bipolar” and that has stuck with me ever since. I’m finally coming to the realization that maybe I am bipoler. I haven’t had any full blown manic episodes but definitely notice I will do sketchy and illegal things when I feel “free and energized” that stage usually last only a few days or about a week, then I’m back to my old ways of laying in my room doing absolutely nothing, but overthink and think “what’s wrong with me?” Sometimes I feel completely empty and don’t talk to ppl for days. What your recommendation on getting help? How do I really know I’m bipoler? I’m still young so I guess we will have to see

Then he threw everything around, broke everything. Grabbed his girlfriend in a choke hold and then sliced his arms and throat. Noone understood why he was so enraged and noone could stop him. My best job for my mental wellness was a casual position doing crisis work where I was "relief" staff and worked as little or as much as I wanted to, provided I met minimum monthly shift requirements, which was easy. The last few months I worked there I was basically full-time employed. It was so flexible. Another bonus was that the hours worked for raising my kids as we didn't require childcare. unrelated to seroquel - but my psych took me off lamictal cold turkey a couple weeks ago because I started having a rash around my eyes and mouth, blurred vision and she said it could be Steven Johnson syndrome. I'd been taking lamictal since 2018. Have you heard of developing the rash after all those years. Only change in dosage was when we went down to 150mg from 200 back in November, then I went back up because I was not doing well on a lower dose. LMK if you have any thoughts on this.

    I have bipolar 1 with psychotic features and I also unfortunately went on a trip before i was on the right meds (my doctor thought i only had OCD so i was on lexapro only. Yikes). My family and I went to Arizona when I was 20 and it was one of the most traumatizing, embarrassing periods of my life. I just remember being so paranoid and having "revelations" about how people work. I thought the hotel staff was out to get me and I started to freak out my family members. I had to scream into a pillow in the hotel room because I felt like I couldn't go on, and my family stood there watching me, horrified. I can definitely relate about what you said about feeling overstimulated. That's exactly how it was being on antidepressants. Anyway, thanks for sharing, I really like your content its very relatable.

      I’m so sorry that happened. I understand. I went on a family trip after my bipolar diagnosis but before Italy. This time I was in severe depression. Terrible in a different way. I saw all the beauty of El Capitan in Yosemite and felt absolutely nothing. It was surreal. Thanks for commenting. Don’t be a stranger. ❤️

    Good to see you. I was wondering where you were! I have depression and occasional mania and take a low dose of lexapro. I would like to do a channel and think I have good ideas to share but I don't like the way my eyes look. I'm kind of zombiefied. I thought I'd get a discussion about whether people who have extreme psychosis can read and enjoy a book. I don't think it's possible. I lost my love of reading slowly over several decades and feel fortunate I can play a musical instrument. I am learning to draw too. I can write a simple letter and I use snail mail. That gets me to thinking. Overall I'm doing well and only on low doses of two medications. I think exercise is the best thing I can do for myself but sadly it is not my top priority, which is unreasonable.

    What were you doing during mania? Being loud, talking a lot? Could you give an example, please?

    • @ourbipolar
      @ourbipolar 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      A lot of it was internal like the racing thoughts and all the grandiosity and ideas. Outwardly I was very talkative and interrupting a lot. I couldn’t stay on one topic and jumped around constantly. I was also doing ballet (very poorly) throughout Italy, as I mentioned in the video.
