Star45 2:1 sheeting system explained
มุมมอง 8802 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a video of the CPM Star 45 2:1 sail trim sheeting system and how it works. The advantages of this system is that you can ease main sail faster and unload the rig and keep the boat on its feet rather than laying over on its side and sliding sideways. It also allows you to trim the sails back in faster once the boat has righted itself. Because the main is sheeted at twice the speed of the...

    That is a nice, clean cast! We have a couple of CR914s in ouor group. Baby powder does help, but you can also "soot" the mold with candle flame for easy release. Baby powder is great in silicone molds. I also preheat the mold on a grill to very near near the molten lead temp. It is slower de-molding, but makes for a a nice finish. Use an IR laser thermometer to check the mold temp. The secret is to use a marker to blacken a small section. It will not reflect the laser like bare aluminum will and give you a good heat reading of the mold. I understand why you have the keel insert, but what is the purpose of the other pin you inserted on the opposite side at 30 seconds?

    Nicely done on your video. Where can I purchase J boat ornaments that go on the deck, such as turnbuckles, winches, jib track, dingy?

    How long does it take to build an EC-12 start to finish?

    • @daramos914
      @daramos914 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Build Time is entirely dependent on the skill of the builder and how much you are fabricating yourself rather than purchasing parts and hardware. It usually take me about 3-4 weeks but I am juggling other orders at the same time so it is a bit misleading and i make all the fittings and hardware in house. A great web site to look into building a 12 Meter is the EC12 Build web site www.ec12.info

    Had a few people ask and I thought I would clarify a few things. The reason for the propane torch is that as the lead fills up into the pour sprue the torch keeps this area molten because as the body of the ballast cools ( quickly due to the mold being made of aluminum) it shrinks a lot. This molten puddle is sucked into the lower body of the ballast preventing a hollow cavity. It take a while to get the mold up to casting temp so I put it on the small hot plate pour opening down to pre heat it. Even with doing that it takes a few casting and leaving them in the mold a bit longer before the mold gets hot enough. Finally the slow trickle poor is tricky because you want to slowly pour the ballast so as to minimize the shrinkage and allow a smooth surface and poring too fast can cause the sides to “suck in” in areas as the lead cools with the molten pour sprue not being able to fill the casting fast enough to prevent it. Another trick to a smooth casting is to dust baby powder onto the mold about every third casting. Lead poring 101. Now wash your hands and tools three times to be safe.

    Why don't you use a rotozip counter edger. With the ball bearing?

    • @daramos914

      Rob Don't want to damage the side of the hull from the vibration of the router. I have a set up like that but the hull is also not 90 degrees to the deck thru the lengh of the hull so you could cut into the hull.

    Had a defective controller board. Think this was probably the first time I have ever had something like this happen in an RMG winch. RMG replace the winch so no big deal.

      Thanks. Yes it took a while to build for my customer and I sometimes asked myself what the hell I was thinking to agreeing when he asked me to do it. But in the end it was a really cool boat.

    How do you transport those 7-1/2' boats? Do you need a trailer? May I ask what it cost to have CPM build it for you? It looks great by the way. And I like your choice of music.

      Greg sorry I missed your message. The mast is removable and some that cannot fit them in the back of their truck will remove the sails and put the mast on the roof or splice the mast and have two sections. Boat will fit into most SUV's.i

    The new hull has such a great finish that for the first time you could take the hull and build the boat without sanding and painting it. The old bow mold mark is just about gone. There is no longer a step in the surface of the hull.

    Is this a model Victoria sailboat hull?

  • @daramos914
    @daramos914 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The hull finish is the best I have ever seen. There is and always will be a mold mark in the bow because it is a part of the mold tooling. Having said that this mold mark is very very slight and you could take this hull, build it & take it sailing without painting it. Its very nice!

  • @s20sailor

    Is there anything different about the new hulls? Do they still have the mold mark on the bow?
