Great information, thank you :) A question related to scent fixing: do you find that gel phase affects scent retention with essential oils? I think I'd read somewhere that the extra heat at gel phase can cause EOs to evaporate off and weakening the scent. I've sourced quality EO's, used them at a high rate (around 4.5% of oils) and tried using clays for fixing, but still feel my scents are not that strong...

I've made my own soap for an entire year! What a journey!!

The IFRA rate isn't a suggestion for the amount of FO to use. A FO with a high IFRA rate has nothing to do with its quality. I have a FO with a max % of 2% which is the max amount you can safely use. It's counterintuitive but at 2% this FO sticks for years! 5% is a guideline for soapers if it is within the safe usage rate, but it may be too strong or too weak. Testing fragrances with small batches is the best practice for new FO's.

No one should be allowed to get away with what this person was doing mental health issues or not. The market manager should have requested to sight the restraining order and if none then sanctioned him. The trouble is when someone spreads lies the dirt sticks and you don’t know how many he lied too. Just terrible to hear.

I feel sorry for the folks who didn't watch this to the end and are cranking out huge batches of that soap that doesn't sell. :)

First of all congratulations to you although it’s a year late. I am a very new soap maker. I’m still learning so many things trying to take it all in one thing that I did learn or should I say what somebody’s opinion was that hot process soap carries its fragrance better if using essential oil, do you find this to be so? Also, I have some pure, unrefined coconut oil that has a use by date of 3/24/22. Is this still OK to use in soap or will it make a difference?

I love the idea of the paper bag! I at the shop have business cards that I print from a lightweight cardstock because I don't want to spend money for something people will throw out! The only thing I would do with the paper bag would get a sticker that says something like thanks for shopping small, a heart. Some stock stickers without the expense of personalized.

Glad the festival was a success. I find it hard to film at markets too. Once the show starts I’m laser focused 😂

Sooner or later, I'm going to have to take a road trip down and see you in person at one of these events! :) Or maybe just come by your shop, but either way it would be so nice to just see another soapmaker in the 'wild' so to speak. I do have some fellows around in my area but it's so hard to really talk to them for one reason or another. This video in particular has been encouraging to say the least because I have not really been too confident in continuing to do events, at least not during this summer this year as last year it was way too hot and humid....

We had a show last Friday and Saturday. Friday the weather was horrible. Major wind and rain and chilly. Literally brought tears to my eyes. Saturday was beautiful and a great day. Sunday I was lucky to unload my car. 😂. The struggle is real.

I just bought my first 50lb bag of lye it scard me, but it saves so much money at my volume 😊 it's rough scalling you at first double think everything and question yourself

I’m m so sorry that happened to you. I’ve been hesitant to try multi day events because of your story. We had a 3 day festival where straight line winds can through during the night and took out the entire event. Many events don’t let you take down between days.
