When Coco came out the first thing I was thinking was like "it's another Mexican day of the dead story just like The book of Life." Which I was excited about because I Love the story of The book of Life and it is honestly sad that it is a little bit underrated

Both are really great, while book of life is unique with mannequin characters and beautiful music Coco also offers beautiful music A great twost villain and beautiful scenery. Theres no debate on which is better in my opinion because both are still great

At 12:22 I actually disagree. Hector chose to leave them to pursue his musical career at first, then while he was gone, he had the realization that he needed to go back, and that's when the poisoning happens. The reason she's upset is because she believes he never should've left in the first place. He should've chosen to stay with them instead. I wish that the movie would've been more centered around his leaving, with his death being a direct consequence of doing so. After all, if he never left, he wouldn't have died, and he wouldn't have to worry about being forgotten because he would've been held in higher regards

I think it will, these photo realistic disney movies are not super loved, On the other hand Sonic has a timeless appeal, even when sonic games suck, people seem to still genuinely love sonic and his buddies.

5:22 ‘why would he want to go back?’ Look even if his family doesnt support music, theyre still his FAMILY yknow, his parents are still good to him! like he probably has friends and a life, and people he’s close to that he’d rather stay with. Would you rather stay with your family and friends your whole life or go and explore a random world where you barely know anyone and everyone is a skeleton?? Sure the afterlife would be cool for like a week or two, but Miguel’s a smart kid and knows he would still miss his family 😭

I’ve always had this thought, between a bright coloured action filled kids movie and a bland, colourless discovery channel looking movie, why would kids want to see Mufasa? And even for the Disney adults, many hated the live action Lion King, and Mufasa being tied to the brand isn’t enough, Lightyear was tied to Toy Story, and still flopped

People seem to only remember the music, because The Book of Life was definitely better than Coco in everything else. Coco just had fire songs that easily wiped out that cover of Creep

Entonces tú argumento para criticar a Coco es: ¿Por que Miguel no prefirió morirse antes que seguir con vida? ¿¿Estás consciente de lo estúpido que suena??? Ojalá no escojas la psicología como profesión. Voy a derrumbar cada punto que diste contra Coco, porque más que una comparación sobre cuál película es mejor, solo se nota que es un odio hacia Disney, cosa curiosa ya que hoy por hoy, ambas son productos de Disney. Dices que Coco debía tener malos recuerdos de su papá... La última vez que lo vió fue un recuerdo alegre de ellos dos cantando mientras el se va, no puede tener malos recuerdos porque para empezar, el se fue cuando ella era niña, y nunca se dice que fue mal padre, mas allá de que se fue de su hogar. Incluso Coco les cuenta que cuando su padre vivía su casa siempre estaba llena de alegres canciones. Segundo, la historia no trata sobre Miguel tratando de que su familia lo acepte, es sobre la familia, la resolución es así porque el problema en cuestión es banal, solo prohibían música por un prejuicio mal planteado, no por algo genuinamente malo. Luego dices que el Libro de la vida representa mejor la festividad, cuando no es así, de nada sirve que Xibalba esté en la película si al final el punto de la película es un triángulo amoroso cliché, la muerte es tan irrelevante al punto que el padre de Manolo muere y a este último ni siquiera le importa, está más preocupado en tener sexo con María. Y su aproximacion a la festividad viene más de una época virreinal en las fronteras. A diferencia de Coco que es una representación contemporánea de lo que es la tradición. Y lo peor son los estereotipos, que ambas películas lo tienen, pero en El libro de la vida son peores, ahí los estereotipos son más dañinos y ridículos, no todos en México son mariachis obesos bigotones traga-churros. En Coco al menos la representación del mariachi es digna, hay investigación y se nota que trataron de emular el sonido de la música mexicana, de sus baladas, no solo hacer covers que dan pena ajena de canciones de Radiohead o Rod Stewart. Ni siquiera en México el libro de la vida fue un exito, pasó sin pena ni gloria, en cambio Coco sigue siendo un mega evento CADA AÑO.

I only saw book of life once when i was little. Yet I feel like it has stuck with me more than coco ever did even after a few rewatches.

Remember, The Lion King was one of their first live action remakes. It probably made more money because people didn't realize yet that Disney live action remakes suck. I doubt Mufasa will do as well.

It’s insane how Coco just ripped off so many ideas from The Book of Life, even the part about disappearing after being forgotten, and no one notices or cares. Even the animation is similar. It’s so obviously a ripoff, and no one notices or cares.

It was made very, very clear in the show that if he stayed past the morning he would be permanently dead and remain there forever. More than half movie was about him wanting to leave not a single second of that movie did he ever stop and say “hey, this is nice. I want to stay!” Did you watch the movie with your eyes closed

But remember that thing at the start of book of life where all those stupid kids are yapping? I think Coco takes the W here 🥱

And not to mention, Book of Life is a Guillermo del Toro production movie, so you get a man from Jalisco, and he KNOWS what to do

I must say I LOVED the book of life when I was a kid, i remember seeing it for the first time when I was on a cruise, one of the best experiences in my life, not to mention that when I came to revisit the movie it was just as good as i remember, i love coco it’s great and i love the songs it has but the book of life literally is my childhood, even though both movies came out in my childhood years the book of life stands at the most memorable ❤

Hot take: Coco aside from its songs as a movie is just mid, and not the insulting kind of “mid” way, just was kind of bored with it
