A rough year look back (did my back yard revive hold up?)

I made some notes about this year, it was hell, my war of 2024, and it all started with a dead daily driver, my Escort. How did she hold up? did the fram filter last? does it still move? Did a scotch bright pad provide enough for the cylinders and rings to take to one another? All answered here. Dumpster Finds, (are they worth saving?)

In this video I ramble about whether or not the old boomerism of buying new, saves you money... In my experience, it doesn't. If you have a basic interest and can learn, you can save hundreds $$$ fixing simple issues on used things like cars, or yard equipment. More times then not I find this is the case, and really the only reason most people don't, is out of laziness, or "not having time". It...

Just a quick little vid of my little dooks, in the video i mention Kira being tired, though since I've shot the video, she's back to normal, so no worries as of yet. She seems to be her normal self again for now. Caspian explores the stove, Kira climbs her cage, and I talk a little bit about how I manage their, messes. Just a quick little vlog, for memory sake.

Riding out to Lebam! on the 80cc bikes (75 mile round trip)

Come join me on a seasonably cool August day for a ride out to Lebam, along the old Willapa Rail grade. We take my two 80cc bike kits I assembled for a long run. 75 miles on less then a gallon of gas each. I carried reserve fuel along the way on my bikes carrier rack, and only needed about 1.5 gallons for both bikes!

      @@TheOneNashon So after we got her a friend, it took a little bit, she eventually warmed up to Caspian, but, it took some time, and he does play a little rough with her, she screeches up a storm sometimes though some of it is play I think. They do sleep together, and seem to get along, but she still breaks away for her own time and sometimes Caspian will annoy her in those moments. I think she's better for having him, but I also feel like she could have easily just remained alone if she had too. she's very bonded to me. Caspian almost increased that bond because now she'll follow me around the house and just sorta, pause and look up at me. it's funny. I'd advise you bring your girl in to the store to meet her possible friend, that's what we did. Just be ready because at first she'll feel a touch defensive of having another in her space. That's how Kira was, but as soon as they finally sleep in the same spot, the bond is started.

    • @michaeltolomei6623
      @michaeltolomei6623 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I didn't, it can be very tough to get that one right, typically though, they will pick a corner, and it will be a common spot, if you happen to get the right size box that your ferret prefers, they ll just naturally use it. In the case of Kira and Caspian, they don't much like the little corner box I got, so they tend to move it then go hahaha, mind of their own. Other Ferret owners may have some tricks up their sleeve, the only one I can think is finding the spot and going from there. sometimes you can take some of their droppings and move them to a box, and that can work, but it just depends on the ferret.

    From someone who's owned ferrets since middle school the biggest thing and this is very important. The tiniest thing you see off vet ASP cause they go down hill very very quickly especially once they hit old age, Which is like 6-8 years for a ferret

    It's too bad you don't have the Ranger with the 4 cylinder. They were beasts. The 3 liter usually never blows head gaskets in the Taurus but always in the Ranger. Keep in mind that the intake gasket can cause it to use coolant.

    • @michaeltolomei6623
      @michaeltolomei6623 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yep. the only 2 saving graces in the project are. it's a simple OHV engine, and the gasket sets are cheap, so at least it's easy enough to refresh. at some point I'll be tackling this, but I also need to refresh the exhaust system as mine is swiss cheese. So, in order to make this truck better then crap, I want a plan for that as well XD. Might even hire custom and dual it up just for sound and looks

      have I got a video for you, we just bought another ferret, and she.... prefers to be alone hahahha. the entire reason I got him was to see, and of course, she's being a brat about it all. hisses constantly at him, but is very slowly getting better about the idea. When I picked Kira out from her sisters, I could tell she was a bit different, she slept alone, was far less active, and I just had a feeling that for the time, she'd fit. at any rate I am now 700$ in between the two of them, at 350$ a pop, it's hard to have that kinda money ready to go to get started when you still need everything else. She's gone 4 months alone, and now has a friend, and is having to learn the ropes of sharing her space. Trust me when I say this, not all ferrets think alike, and these two are proof of this.

    Is it worth buying a bike from bikeberry or phatmoto that's got built-in gas tank and mount for engine already there. I think rear sprocket is already there. Is hub mount a better solution for your bike than rag joint

    • @michaeltolomei6623
      @michaeltolomei6623 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've never bought one from bike berry, the price was always why, but honestly it might be worth it to avoid some of the hassles of fitment. One issue I constantly fight on my builds is stock exhaust clearance with the pedals, and engine "sailing" the two mount is not ideal for torque and what tends to happen is the engine will slowly rotate during travels. Honestly a third high mount up high would solve that, but I've yet to add one and instrad eventually it finds a point where the engine will sorta, stop, but it's not a comforting thought heheh. If you're looking to save money, and you're good at improving what they give you, it's worth keeping it cheap, but if you want a more stream line assembly, you might want to go with bike berry. I think that, for the price, this route was worth it, but it did come with it's battles.

    if ur bike struggles to start check the spark plug timing if u correct it and clean it and still wont start u need to replace it those 2 stroke engines eats spark plugs alot

    • @michaeltolomei6623
      @michaeltolomei6623 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      not much can be done for timing, if you want to adjust it, you have to modify the crank key to rotate the magneto. The pole plate itself is set where it is. It doesn't usually give me to many issues in starting now. Typically it just comes down to the right blend of choke. I don't start them everyday so that doesn't help the situation. Also that strong ratio they call for really can foul plugs up.

      I'm from Washington, mine was found in a barn, dead. I got it for free, but put more in to it than she's probably worth lol. Yeah my trick was using magnets to get the weird roller pin bearings to stay put, as well as those funky ball locking bearings. Trouble is with those free little pin bearings is they can wear funny, and I found I didn't much like the way mine were wearing last time I looked in there. A regular bearing race would be so much better. if the bike ever has a fail, and survives it, that's what I'd likely put back in their place.

    is that the shaht with all the holes in it that has those 50 little roller bearings around a race that all fall out when you pull the shaft out My 1965 KS-100 had the same set up not sure if somebody did not upgrade that and remove and replace that lousy design with a solid 1 piece roller bearing for that shaft if anybody knows that would be appreciated they never should have used that 50 separate rollers that came out of the race

      indeed it was, I used magnets to keep them in place because yeah it's a terrible design. The bike still runs to this day for now. But that transmission is one scary sounding little thing. And I never did get it to shift strong. I can find all the gears but it's a dance cause no matter where I tune the "shift bell" for the drum shaft, it doesn;t seem to limit the kick enough. Bike seems to shift past gears most of the time.

      @@luckyfreeman5079 Sounds like something mine could use at least the transmission anyway. Compression wise my engine's gained a few pounds. I did a compression test a week or so back and it was hovering just over 140lbs. When I first completed this, it was only 120~.

      no doubt, believe me going through editing and such I was annoyed by that. Just didn't feel like retaking it though.

      lol, every time I ride I think that. These things are so simple and cheap once you get the hang of it fixing and installing and all that it's really neat and easy to keep them going, at least so far for me that's the case anyway.
