No 4wd or Centre Diff Lock | Electric Controlled Selection | 200 Series | How To
In this video we look into why my 200 series Land Cruiser has lost the ability to select 4wd Lo and centre diff lock. Newer cars now rely on electronic systems to activate the basic Lo range and diff lock mechanisms.... until they die. Let's have a look at how they work and what can go wrong and how to fix it.

    Hi Marc, very useful explanation thank you. I plan to do the exact swap over as you’ve just done, the only thing different is that I need to add an inverter as my system doesn’t have one. How difficult is it to add an inverter to my system? How many new cables will need to be ran? Cheers

    • @DucruznOZ
      @DucruznOZ 20 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@MichaelHargrave-h1r cheers for that mate 🍻 it really depends on where your batteries are compared to your inverter (shortest distance is usually the best or a really large gauge cabling is required) and also depends on how you want it wired up. Ours is hooked up to a 3 way switch that allows all of the power points in the van to be "live/active" when the inverter is switched on.... alternatively you can just have the one PowerPoint that comes off the inverter and have to run extension leads/power boards etc.... because we had it fitted during the build it was much easier to run the cables for the 3 way switch. A 240v sparky will be the person to talk to in regards to that though.... good luck with the install and hope that helps 🍻🍻

    Great video! Likewise I always tow in S4 and monitor transmission temp with a ScanGauge. I keep revs at between 2300 and 2600 regardless of road speed using the gearbox as a clutchless manual. I tow a 3tonne van. Recently I was driving outback in western NSW. Road was rubbish and speed was on average about 55km/h and I was towing mostly in S3. The interesting thing was that my fuel economy was the best I have ever achieved whilst towing, 20.7 l/100km. Could not believe it. Usually I am getting 22 to 24l/100km.

    I don't understand why anyone would have an issue with trying to judge distances with looking at the bottom mirror on the Clear views, technically it's called a spotter mirror, it's deliberately convex to enable you to see anything that would normally be a blind spot like the lane next to you (more helpful on a left mirror) it's not designed to be used to reverse. The MSA mirror seems to be roughly the same size as the CV main mirror without the spotter mirror so obviously without the extra mirror it would miss any body panel when folded in. On the subject of either mirror being folded in, tho the MSA seems it wouldn't make contact with the body of the car, if it is given a hard enough whack, instead of hitting a solid panel it would put the window at potential risk of being shattered. There really is no saying one is better than the other, they are both excellent mirrors for towing with one having less of a safety advantage of seeing the blind spot. What I would like to see the manufacturers add in either mirror is an electric fold as I have in my Jackaroo and an electric 2 stage extension, even though it would make them somewhat slightly more expensive, the simple convenience of not having to exist your vehicle or needing someone to physically fold or pull in the mirrors every time you get to a narrow part of a track would be a godsend. Also your CV's have a 3-year Manufacturer’s Warranty so you could've tried claiming the paint issue on warrantee.

      @DucruznOZ 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Definitely a matter of personal preference, but the msa doesn't hit the window when folded back.... also the CV are over 3 years old so the warranty was not available.... it is more a preference thing of what people prefer so there is no right or wrong answer as to what is better/easier to use... this was just my findings 🍻

    It looked a little like the open ends of the new transmission lines and the fixed bayonet fittings were ingesting some of that red dust. Before you started that installation it might have been a good idea to do a pressure rinse of the area you were to be working in.

      Cheers for the feedback mate 🍻 I actually has the lockup box before the remap and it used to annoy me especially if u forgot it was on (was an older one that wasn't automatically turned off) and the car would almost stall when coming to a stop... had to quickly switch it off before it stalled 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ can say now after travelling over 70,000kms with the van we couldn't be happier with the tune 👌👌 getting an extra cooler is also worth the cost 💪

    Are those polyurethane bushings? I was under the impression that you can torque the upper control arm bolt with the truck on a lift with that type of bushing due to how it sits in the control arm vs a standard bushing. I just did JBA control arms and they said it was okay to torque the bolt down while truck on jacks and suspension not loaded. ( l lowered it to the ground and loosened and re-torqued bolts just to be safe) Just curious on your thoughts

    Love those Kenda Klever RTs. They wore like iron on my GX460. Ran 275/70R18s (33.5") on the factory wheels and enjoyed them on and off road. Pretty tame noise levels for the amount of grip they offer. Also have a set of their 31" ATs on my GX470 for daily driving. They seem to wear a little faster but they are winter rated so thats expected with that compound.

      They are an OK tyre, I had to replace 3 in 80,000kms but they were all sidewall damage... perhaps overloaded?? We also did do a lot of rocky terrain and dirt roads so may e that is acceptable ;) glad ur having a good run with yours 🍻🍻

      @@DucruznOZbummer! You are probably really giving them a workout though. I had one replaced early on after picking up a bolt in the sidewall. Tire shop said it was unrepairable but we had road hazard coverage so it cost me $20. I did however not tow so I can't speak to running higher pressures. Just had a massive Tuff Stuff Alpha roof top tent and loaded with camping gear to the gills for 5 day trips off grid in some pretty gnarly areas like Big Bend State Park and some off-road park shenanigans. Aired down to 18-20psi and they did well even with sharp rocks in Colorado. Sometimes we are just unlucky. I felt like I went through an entire set of MTR Kevlars in a year. All sidewall failures after friends swore by them. Each time the had zipper rips in a bad place to have a flat 😂

    Great to see the how much protection the wrap provided. Did the wrap look that it needed replacing? Would it be realistic to expect getting 2 years or more before needing to replace the wrap if youre regularly driving gravel outback roads?

    • @DucruznOZ

      It did do an amazing job, the wrap still looked great.. some spot that had lifted in the corner looked a bit shabby, but I just trimmed them off with a stanely knife and reheated the edge and it was good to go. I got 18 months out of a 12 month product, but they do a 5 and 10 year one now 👌👌
