My timing chain is not making any noise. Can I just replace the intake camshaft? Or do I have to replace the exhaust as well? Please advise thanks
I suggest you check the cam timing first. Bring the crank shaft to time. Remove cam sensors and check timing. If it’s off, replacing cam magnets will not help. Sometimes timing chain may not make a rattling noise. But, replacing cam magnets with an updated parts since they are not too expensive is not a bad idea if you don’t want to check engine timing.

Don’t remove the first chrome trim piece because it will break . Its not supposed to come out
Hi important question, the cam and lifters must get replaced as a set, no? Do you do it that way? I dont want to spend extra money on lifters if i dont need to change them.

Great video, it was straightforward and I saved almost $2000. My line was split in half and I went and purchased a new line and the connector, which was around $120 total. I only used the connector and didn't bother to change the line. I connected it in less than 3 mins and the car is back to normal after being dropped in the rear for almost a week at the dealership. Had I not request my vehicle back after waiting this video, I would have been out of $1800 since they requested the air compressor, the air lines to the valve block to be changed. P.S. it was only one line the needed to be changed. Thanks for this video! I feel inspired!😇

NOT 35 degree, it's 53 degree when you check through the holes. Good video :0)
I did this exact service with the special tool kit and all. The car was idling rough and misfiring on all cylinders with a chain rattle. Now that i timed and repalced the chain, tensioner and the car cranks but no start now. I have opened it up 3 times incase I missed something and same result. Any ideas if i did anything wrong?
Check faults and run short test let me know.

I added all the codes that Pathfinder software scan tool is pulling up: 1. HVAC - 434709 - Unknown DTC, B14A0-87 - Blower controller - Missing message 2. IPC - B1026-63 - Steering column lock - Circuit i component protection time-out 3. GWM - U0080-88 - Vehicle communication bus F - Bus off 4. IDMA - 9740802 - Unknown DTC, 9740819 - Unknown DTC 5. HUD - U3000-49 - Control module - Internal electronic failure 6. IPMA - 03003-16 - Battery voltage - Circuit voltage below threshold 7. PCM - P0343-00 - Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit High (Bank 1 or single sensor) - No sub type informal, P0368-00 - Camshaft Position Sensor B Circuit High (Bank 1) - No sub type information, U0080-37 - Vehicle communication bus F - Missing message 8. TCU - B14A9-13 - BroadR-ReachO link - Telematics (+) - Open circuit, B14AA-13 - BroadR-Reache link - Telematics (-) - Open circuit
Check plug and connection to your camshaft position sensors. Make sure the connections are not damage or broken. Check wiring to ECM make sure they are ok.
I would run a short test and check the faults first. Start by locking the crankshaft first and line up the small gear I showed on the video , then align you camshaft and lock your camshaft, then lock you adjuster units and tighten everything. Rotate engine and recheck all your marking again
Thank you for your prompt reply! I really appreciate it. I conducted a quick test and found a broken wire in the oil pressure sensor connector, which I repaired. However, I'm still facing a crank but no start issue. My codes have now narrowed down to: **IPC** - B1026-63 - Steering column lock - Circuit/component protection time-out (data not available) **TCU** - B1449-13 - BroadR-Reach link - Telematics (+) - Open circuit - B14AA-13 - BroadR-Reach link - Telematics (-) - Open circuit Just to clarify, this is my personal car. When I started, the chain had slipped, and the crankshaft was misaligned. I used the specialty tool to lock the cams but didn’t bolt it down, nor did I secure the crank pulley tool. I started turning the crank by hand till all the marks aligned, is it possible for the timing to still be off despite that? Thank you for your help!
These engines are a nightmare
😂 it’s hard to design an 8. Cylinder bi turbo engine. All manufactures struggles at least for the first few years until it goes thru test .

What?? You can just push the air hose to the fitting! All this time I first put the fittings on the air hose and then slowly screw the fitting with the air hose to the compressor or to the air struts/bags. Is this "push" same for all mercedes models with air suspension to fit the air hose?
Yes sir. With new fittings you just push and press the hose all the way in.
@@eagoleye So is it only for original mercedes parts because I have after market compressor and air struts from makes like Stark and Sachs.

Well the only thing missing from the PDF instructions is what cylinder is the engine time on? It does not say when these marks lined up on the cams, with the crankshaft held in that position if it is done on cylinder number one. They did not even put a mark on the crank pulley for confirmation like others do. A tool beside the locking tool is needed to actually turn the crank easily because there is no bolt to fit a socket onto. Everything is about the special tool. So if you are not careful you can be 180 degree out and the crank can line up because the tool fits! So is it time this way...on the number one cylinder on the compression stroke, top dead center that all marks line up, and the crank tool is locked into place and the cam tool is locked into place or no?
All the timing rolls are goin to be installed only in one direction. You always start by locking the crankshaft and then locking the cams and gears on top.
So when timed, is the motor at TDC on any cylinder at all? A reference mark on the crank pulley would help to confirm alot like normal engines because the crank tool can be installed 180 degrees apart and still appear correct...two revolutions of the crank is one revolution of the cam. If it was said the tools line up properly on TDC on the number one cylinder and marks were on the crank pulley it make a difference.

How do you time the cam adjusters if the cam has no pin to hold the adjuster in any position?
The adjuster don’t have timing and they don’t need to be locked. Once you install thd chain tensioner and lock the cams you can tighten the center bolt
