That is true, I was more referring to the big home consoles of Nintendos. But I didn’t know about the first DS being able to play GBA games, that’s wild!

Do you find it works well and looks pretty crisp on a big flat screen? Cause I’d be interested in just getting that. I could see this being a good option if you didn’t have an N64 already but if you do then that might better. Although this could be better for frame rate drop, DK64 had really bad frame rate drops.

@jdmann6189 It looks phenomenal on my 65 OLED. You would need to be able to solder though or send it to someone who is capable of soldering. I run mine through a retrotink 4k and it's beautiful. Since I'm running og hardware yes there is no overclocking. I'm unsure if analogues console will support that. I know MiSTer FPGA supports turbo core for N64 although you won't be able to use your og carts with that. Personally I prefer og hardware and the frame drops are welcomed.

@ it’s funny the frame rate drop never bothered me on the 64, I was so naive back then I thought it was just part of the experience haha

@@onetwo6039 and this is my question with all of this 4K talk, obviously the graphics can only be as good as they were when the games were made, so really are these systems just making the games playable on a 4K tv, isn’t it just an output resolution? I feel like a lot of people are thinking the graphics are going to be better or something? I could be wrong.

@jdmann6189 I honestly have no idea... PC gamers swear they can render classic games up scaled to 4K with better frame rates and all that fancy stuff they brag about so maybe this console will be worth it with newer fpga tech inside. I'm playing FEAR on Xbox series X right and that old game looks pretty darn good in 4k with better frame rates. Guess we won't really know til we see it for ourselves, but interestingly Analogue hasn't showed us game play yet ...... Hmm 🤔

Will it allow playing the game only with the cartridge inserted? Or does it do some internal backup so it can be played later even without inserting it again? Because if it's the latter then it's indeed great for preservation. And it would be much more convenient to just select any game in the OS and play it. As long as it doesn't let you actually share roms, there should be no legal issues, I think?

If you want to avoid software emulation and still go down the rabbit hole of FPGA gaming similar to the Analogue products, you build a MiSTer.

Got my pre-order in Heres what this system does Upscales to 4k, allows a de-blur option to get rid of the anti aliasing n64 games have. Lets you eliminate frame rate issues by letting you run games at the intended target frame rate because most n64 games did not run at the intended frame rates they are supposed to. Every n64 cartridge works, you can hook up original n64 controllers to it, has built in wifi for firmware updates, lets you use hybrid and pvm display options, if you want to and it supports VRR. I game on a 32 inch QD OLED and don't want to bother getting a CRT, this is for people who want a modern N64 and still own cartridges.

If you want an N64 console HDMI modded, upscaled properly, with FRAM modded memory card support, you will be paying more for it.

​@kamikazilucas The analogue 3d upscales to 4k, i own the Super NT and the Mega SG from analogue, they go up to 1080p. The analogue 3D has a ton of features, there's a de-blur option to remove the anti-aliasing, you can run games at higher frame rates, so when you play four player goldeneye, the frame rate doesn't go down into the single digits. It has PVM, Hybrid and standard scanline options and I can tell you the Hybrid scanlines are really good and analogue does a good job at them, if you want to use them. This an Nintendo 64 for people who want to play from the catridge while also getting over the technical issues the n64 has.

Recently purchased a mint condition Nintendo 64, works just fine. It came with the power pack, AV cables, jumper pak, and no controller. It was a bundle cheap without the controller

@owomushi_vr you can play n64 on basically anything nowadays in 4k why would anyone waste there money on this ? They want the same price like how much n64 costed when it first came out in 1996 lol what a joke

speak for yourself, I emulate most of my n64 library at 5x original resolution and they look and play great, more stable frame rates and less input latency. the Analogue 3D isn't emulation so it is an even nicer way to play the games at higher resolutions.

its upscaled to 4k but will only be 240p really, anyway n64 games look way better at higher res, they wernt made for crts in mind they were made with professional monitors

​@@kamikazilucas Those monitors were not 4k, and likely not even 720p. And a lot of computer monitors in the 90's were crt's.

@@kamikazilucas The models, textures, and every other asset was designed to be played on a consumer crt. They took into account all the shortcomings of the technology. Don't forget that most studios would still be using professional crt monitors in the 90's. Hell, even the consoles are designed to output an image made for crt's like 240p or 480i.
