No vapour barrier 😮
Hi Dave. Loved this video and I get the feeling you're gonna do the painted black ply ceiling with the dyed wood slats going from front to back. I hope this is the case as I love that look. And are the cabinets going to be dyed the same colour as the ceiling? food for thought? I would also like to see you convert an at least standing height van as this was the only problem I had with mine after a while. And, what about a roof air ventilation system? Looking forward to the next mate. Chris.
Hi Chris....the ceiling in this one is going to be lacquered cladding with the dark carpet over the infills I put in. The next video series will be a H2 Boxer with a lot more head room. I plan to go whole hog and put underslung tanks in it, electric roof vent and a heater......I hope I can get onto it later in the year.
Thanks for the video, Dave. Great job. When I did my 2014 Renault Trafic LWB van I used 'nutserts" to fasten everything. I did not want to use any self-tapping screws to prevent metal bits from falling into the body to prevent future rust. It was not easy but things are fine after 10 years of use.
Thanks, I've never tried them but I'll take a look....always looking for better ways to do things.
Good evening Dave, I've noticed you didn't put a vapour barrier in on this build. Is there a reason for this? I am currently at the insulation stage and am getting mixed reviews on whether they are needed or not, I know on your previous built you installed one, was just wondering the pros and cons. Thank you for your time and your brilliant videos.
Thanks a lot....there is a great debate about vapour barriers....my current thinking is in a day/weekend van like this and used plastic bottle insulation which in theory should not mould ot rot, it is not necessary. In a van which I was going to be living in for longer periods of time and cooking and using a shower, I would put one in. I know there are many conflicting opinions.....but to some degree the carpet with the spray adhesive on the back will also act as a sort of vapour barrier.
Thanks again Dave 👍
My pleasure.
Can I ask where you got the swivel base from please .
I got it from a place called "kiravans". They have them up on their site.
When it's done Dave I'm moving in 🤭🤭🤣🤣
My too. It's coming along real well. Thanks.
Great job again Dave, 👍 looking forward to the next one. Electrics are confusing me at the moment, I've no idea lol so looking forward to your 2nd fix on that too
Thanks....the electrics are always done in a few different phases as the rest of the build progresses.
Fantastic as always 😎
Many thanks.
Top work and well explained 👏 Cheers 🍻
My pleasure....Thanks for watching.
Cheers Dave, just about to do my Trafic ceiling so this goes a long way!
Thanks....good luck with your conversion.
Looking absolutely great again
Thanks a lot....It's coming along well.
Brilliant
Many thanks.
Brilliant video again dave, can't wait to get cracking on my van, just waiting for day 5 video of your newer vivaro
Thanks a lot and good luck with your own conversion....it's a great project.
Loving your work sir 👏
Thanks very much.
Amazing videos, I'm thinking on converting my vauxhall vivaro lwb. Where do you get all of your materials ie fridge, solar, cooker? Thank you
I got most of the stuff off ebay....there aren't and shops locally that sell this sort of stuff.
@@dave-watson there's so much on there I don't really know what best to choose from, it's giving me a headache 😂
Is it ok to put the self tappers straight through the floor ridges and leave…do you need to protect somehow from rusting underneath?
I believe the self tappers are stainless steel...so they should be okay.
Absolutely lovely ! ❤
Many thanks.
Beautiful craftsmanship
Thanks vey much
Another good job.
Thanks a lot.
Awesome vid 👏🏻
Many thanks.
Brilliant work Dave - precise and to the point 👍- cheers mate - Mark
Thanks Mark....the van is coming along really well.
Greetings from South Australia. Thanks for the video, Dave. Your videos are the best conversion ones I have seen so far. I have seen many. I hope you have a nice day.
Thanks a lot....I've had a great day and hope you have too. Hope you enjoy the rest of this build series.
Just watched all 4 videos after coming across your cheese pasty video and all I have to say is "someone give this man a god damn TV show" I could watch you all day! Yav gained another sub, keep these awsome videos coming and I hope you do other great projects after this.
Thanks a lot....I await the call from netflix lol. Loads more baking and van building to come.
Totally agree - everything explained simply and with no fuss 👍
Fantastic work mate so clear I love watching your videos 👌 keep up the great work mate👌
Thanks a lot....the whole build is to come.
Where are the windows from?
I got them from Vanpimps. Thanks
That solar panel fitting was just what I needed - no faffing just clear and simple instruction - thank you! 🙏 😀
My pleasure. Hope you enjoy the rest of this series.
Good to see you back….
Thanks...it's good to be back...hope you enjoy the series.
Fantastic work as always 😎
Many thanks.
Woah 😮 that was epic 👍🥰 tremendous stuff
Thanks very much. The van is really coming along. Hope you enjoy the rest of the series.
Amazing Dave x
Thanks very much Carol. The van is coming along very well.....and there is a great custard tart coming on Wednesday.
Love these vids, simple and precise. Thank you. 👍
My pleasure, the whole build is to come.
Another great video Dave. Cant wait to see the final product. Are you going with a rock and roll again? Because personally I think you should pull out slat it with a lot more storage underneath. I like both ways but at least my preference allows you to sleep on a single without having to make up a double. Either way, It's gonna be good. Chris.
I'm planning on the wooden R&R bed....I've been working on the MKII R&R bed and I'll video the making of it.
Hi Dave - thanks for sharing this. I love the design and have built one for a smaller van - I’ve a 19mm floor thats stuck down already so I,m wondering how you finally fixed it to the floor? I cant come up through the underside of van with long bolts etc, I,m thinking 6 M6 coach bots through the frame into the 19mm floor should be ok but wonder if that’s strong enough?
I think that would be more than strong enough....I usually screw the frame to the floor and that seems to be good.
Jeez Dave you'd almost think you've done this before!!!!!
I think this is van No. 7. I'm looking at doing a Boxer next....a new challenge.
Well done Dave love watching your conversions videos do you fancy doing ford transit next
Thanks....not so sure about the transit....I was looking at getting a Boxer L2 H2 or something like that.
@@dave-watson well there pretty much same van mate transit engine
Great video Dave, what a source of information for my SWB Vivaro conversion . Many thanks for sharing. ps. have you started to manufacture your R&R beds yet , if so do you have a price ?
I am working in the MKII R&R bed....I will be making on later in this series.....I do sell them for £275 but I can only do local pick up. Good luck with your conversion and thanks for watching.
@dave-watson thanks for that , I'm interested in the R&R will be in the market for one in about 4 weeks, if its OK I'll send you a message with some measurements. Cheers
Hi Dave, am loving your latest build series. I have watched your previous ones and am doing my own Vivaro conversion atm so perfect timing for me to follow along! One question I had is why do you prefer OSB over 12mm Ply for the floor? Cheers, Gareth.
Thanks Gareth....I use the OSB because I find it easier to handle than the 12 mm ply, it's lighter and jest as stable when in the van.
Coming along nicely Dave - great work mate 👍
Thanks a lot, the whole build is coming soon.
Very nice!
Thanks a lot.
Nicely done, Sir! Looks good 🙂
Thanks very much
Inspiring me to keep looking for a new base van, thank you x peculiarlyhookedonpendle
It's a great project to do.
@@dave-watson I have had four, a transporter, transit then relay then another transit I bought in November and had just finished insulation when someone stole it. Insurance have only paid me five thousand so starting again at the lower end…. Any inspiration is great as my needs in a van are really unique. Your content makes things look achievable
@@user-dy2px8gt1g That's tragic....Hope you find a new van, good luck with the search.
@@dave-watson thank you, actually I just drove from Burnley to brum today to look at a bright yellow minibus, I’ll have to get unwin seats for kids as it’s got rails and only three seats currently but have taken a gamble. It’s better than being without a van once you are used to having the versatility of one isn’t it ? Keep the inspiration coming though my build will be very much lower budget than yours 😋
Very interesting and helpful videos Dave, thanks for sharing
My pleasure, the whole build is to come.
I found the wheel arches quite tricky to insulate and carpet. The foam I had was extremely sticky and unforgiving if I was slightly out 😖
I recommend a pair of duck bill scissors. I've found em very useful for cutting away all the ridges in my bad carpeting, so they were not really noticeable
@crxspybacon123 thanks , I will source a pair
Yes, the wheel arches are a pain and a difficult shape.
You going to seal them self tapers underneath ? Oh and by the way hearing them seagulls got me thinking of Cornish pasties so that might be one for the other channel 👍
Ooh, Cornish Pasty... Best not drink the water, though... Eh??? 😟😟😥😥😰😰🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮
Cornish pasties coming soon.......and If I get the chance to get the van up on a ramp I certainly will seal the screws......Also steak and ale pasties to come.
I'm in awe 😮
Thanks a lot Carol
Well done that was very clever
Thanks very much.
Why not buy a Vivaro/Trafic with windows already in ?They are out there …Your channnel is one of the best !Cheers from 🇧🇪 Belgium 😊
Welcome from the UK, I've never seen many with windows already in....some crew cabs but they usually have double sliding doors
Nice job, easy to understand.
Thanks a lot.
Great work Dave great channel great to watch and learn.
Thanks very much.
