I've played Webber for almost 1 thousand hours, I have made entire spider strongholds, I have conquered many lands with my armies- and yet I never even knew about the offensive and defensive mode with the webby whistle. Thank you for teaching me something new.
it'd be neat for webber to be able to grab spiders inside of a decorated den like picking up items from a chest. could also allow you to make a nest into a home/storage for spiders. would probably make so that it forces spiders to neutral and any hostile action by a specific play makes the nest hostile. stops random players from griefing webber players while also allowing den decorators more nuance.
I've always found smaller sanity pools to be a boon. Yeah, you go insane way faster, but you get out of insanity way faster too. I usually play wx, so I only go insane at 23 sanity, so killing a single terrorbeak completely reverses it.
Spitters are really important because when fighting a boss you can only have so many spiders around the boss to attack with. Spitters up your dps because they don’t need to be as close
Two main benefits of Webber as a Webber main here. First is due to the prominence of spiders, Webber trivializes a lot of the game since spiders are everywhere. The second in my opinion is Webber is perhaps the best character at ocean exploration. See in my experience, land based spiders will not attempt to eat meat on a raft (on Xbox, may need testing elsewhere), meaning Webber is effortlessly able to collect more food while on the sea and sail for longer with protection from most ocean mobs. I personally use this also as a small pig skin farm. I tend to use his easy access to silk to catch bees for bee boxes for the taffy early on. Webber’s weakest point is resource gathering in my opinion
I think it's also worth mentioning how tier three nests can help early game players. Since Webber can get silk and meat so fast upgrading a nest to tier three and sleeping often is actually another good way to maintain base stats. You don't even need to spen time cooking your food :D
6:33 I feel like spitter switcherdoodles are still worth it because unless you are in the middle of summer or are trying to make gunpowder, nitre is literally useless (I literally say "no need for nitre" every time I see nitre).
I can tell that information about that spider disappearing when u leave situation and that mainly spans on the den connection as to remove it u should take the spider into your inventory and bring it out, ofc when u do this its a easy way to gather even more spiders cuz since the connection is lost the den will generate a new spider since it assumes that connection is tethered
That thumbnail gave me more nightmare fuel than shadow pieces. . . Webber will always be a fun and unique character. You could say wurt is just better as a follower/recruitment character. But Webber can gather his army while progressing through the game while Wurt has to just farm stuff for a while. A lot of it is just that spiders are nearly everywhere in the game.
wonder how webbers skill tree will improve his existing playstyle when it comes out like being able to tame spider queens or the barracks idea you brought up
Does anyone remember frog webber? I know they exist because of oranges dont starve iceberg video. I feel like frog webber should be both a skin and a perk in webbers skill tree (frog webber can hop a small distance with a walking can in hand) and should be called something like spider leap.
I think the extinction possibility is the main reason switcher doodles got added. It would be cooler if we could make the dens but being able to make spitters out of normal spiders is pretty good too.
At 4:24 i think the reason this happens is because spiders with a den are sent back to it when the world closes removing them from your hoard Also when you pick up a spider or give it a switcherdoodle it untethers it from its nest allowing more to spawn from the same nest
My main issue with webber is that roll backs or just server restarts can cause your entire army to despawn until you can setup a hub to keep them stored. This makes webber in public servers mostly a waste of time imo. edit: you actually mention this in the video. I don't think its a bug, but an unwelcome feature. Spiders just return to their home dens if they still exist whenever a world reloads. happens when swapping shards too.
Webber's biggest issue is he just gets overshadowed by Wurt in practically every aspect. Higher base stats across the board with the potential to get even higher and merms are just straight up better than spiders. No hostility from bunnymen either. And built in sanity management, just to kick him while he's down. Sure his snowballing starts earlier than Wurt but his spiders are very quickly overtaken by merms.
@@DVGMedia1 In what way do they fulfill different roles? Webber can use his minions to kill enemies and bosses easier, Wurt can use her minions to kill enemies and bosses easier. Wurt is also better at resource harvesting with her merms, forgot to mention that too. I'm not saying Webber is bad on his own but Wurt can do most of the things he can do but better.
@@Jorvalt Webber is all about self sustainability and mob farming while Wurt is about resource management You can use merms to kill some stuff yeah but You have to really build them up before hand. getting king setup and making enough merms to follow suit. They fill completely different playstyles. And no spiders will always beat merms just due to healing
@@DVGMedia1 you forgot about the deaded mudslinger. The dps of that thing combites with an army of merms just melts everything. Ecery single merm hit within the zone has a 50 percent chance to spawn a shadow tentacle, and merms even have a chance to hit three times. They can doge every 10 seconds as well, have hel.ets and inate damage reduction. So an army of spiders can get melted by cc second phase if you dont comand them well. With merms they melt it. I alsso forgot to mention they resurect as shadow merms after they die. And they are alsso way cheaper to recruit.
You can play Webber als Wilson with a worse beard but being able to eat monster meat. Prototyping is practically worth 2x the sanity points in terms of threshholds. Not a bad beginner character, even if you completely ignore all spider mechanics; so don't worry ^^
The worst thing about webber is the lag he can produce. Too many spiders lags the server. I was on a server the other day and everyone left because of the webber lag. This can also be used as a griefing tool.

Webber is the most unique character and interesting to play, but also very weak If u have no mods your big army will simply disappear when u leave ( internet connection maybe or smth ) and even can kill your teammates Meat eating makes hunting very uncomfortable and useless if u not good in controlling your army Webber and Wortox i think is the most unique character with cool idea, but they need skill tree ( Webber is kinda hard to play and uncomfortable, Wortox has boring gameplay and they both has very good potential for skill tree like Willow and Wurt) Also i was Maxwell main and related to Webber as trash with disgusting gameplay, but when i tried he became my new main. The only character that can make me to play sometime on other character is Wortox when he get skill tree Damn i wrote to much 🫥

Low max sanity is good because shadows come and leave you depending on percentage and it's easier to recover percentage of lower sanity.
I've been using Webber awhile now but I didn't know the whistle can change their stance, you learn something new everyday.

they play completely different though. Wurt and webber fulfulill completely different roles. Which is why i don't think they really compare.

I soloed enraged klaus with around 15 merms. I didnt even atack, all i did was use the mudslinger and sit back and watch. All for the price of 4 kelp

If getting hit causes them to attack with in the 10 seconds why did they not attack the spider that was attacking them within the ten seconds
If they are called by the whistle they won't retaliate to getting hit for 10 seconds
