When will you grow past an advanced beginner? That is an awesome question! I think every time you take on a new skill and conquer it that moves you closer to being an advanced sewest. The top you shared looked great, but only YOU knew the little things that would have made it better! Tackling zippers is a great goal for this year. I felt like a real intermediate sewist the first time I made a coat. It took me a whole year to get up the courage to do it. So whatever scares you, will make you a better sewist for overcoming your fear. And then the more you do it you will become a master at it. Just look how far you've come! 😘🥰😍🤩

Oh my Dear... We may be older sewist, I learned at 9, but we are still learning. Yes, challenge yourself. Invisible zipper, fly front zipper, boning, pleats, pintucks, all types of collars cuffs and sleeves. Gathers, linings. But the most important is learning the different fabrics. The touch and feel so that in your mind, when you read suggestions you instantly know what they are talking about. And my advice for what its worth is go with natural fibers. They will last! Princess seams are pretty easy, cotton or knit, I’m a newer sewer and I find it quite easy, I actually prefer them rather that darts

Ditch the labels! Dive in and have fun. Try everything. Take your time, watch a few videos, read a couple of books but trust your Intuition. Over 50 years ago, as a beginner, I was making formal wear, coats and lined jackets. I wasn't aware those weren't beginner projects. I was very proud of what I had sewn, though I still despise welt pockets. Social media is stealing the joy of creating. We're all at different levels of growth depending on the project. You'd be surprised at what you do know once you quiet the noise. As my mum used to say, "every spoil is a style". Again, have fun and enjoy the journey.

Fly fronts aren't that hard. I've made a few and I was a beginner at the time.

The way you transition to the next level is to not worry about the label. I’m in my 60s and have been avidly sewing since I was seven. I made wedding dresses in the 80s and 90s to supplement our income. Thanks to TH-cam I have learned so much from other sewist in particular the Brazilian sewers and sewers from eastern Europe. I’m a quilter as well. Just keep two things at all times. Keep your mind open and seam ripper in hand…you will do just fine!

I've seen so many great bomber jackets lately. Love yours. You said your fabric stretch did you use a walking foot? Minky is hard to cut and sew. Love the fabric.

I have that top pattern too aand have yet to make it. I was concerned with the ruching and if I'd make it correctly. I see myself as an advnce beginner. I have not made anything since last winter. I guess Ive lost my sow jo. I want to try this as your top looks great.

I made the top for Christmas last year with a sparkly knit, it was too short to wear, almost got rid of it, but instead wear it with high rise pants. I love the lines, too, but will most definitely add 2,3 inches next time. Crazy!

OMG!! I just made S9451 a couple of weeks ago. I made View B the sleeveless one also and have a video review of it!! I paired it with a cardigan. We have the SAME taste! I love that burgundy top.
