Steve's Machines
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 3 ม.ค. 2020
Welcome to Steve's Machines, a channel hosted by a car hoarder of limited and questionable mechanical skill.
I love old vehicles, I love working on them, looking at them, buying them, using them as often as I can and simply just talking about them.
All my maintenance and build work is done using basic tools that you can easily buy cheap or second hand, I have barely any specialist tools.
If I can build these things, you can too!
My collection of vehicles currently include:
Reliant Regal Sleeper Build
Porsche 928s
Mazda Bongo 2.5td running on alternate fuels
Reliant Ant Truck
Reliant Robin MK2
XAir Falcon Microlight aircraft.
My channel is for entertainment purposes only, I flit from project to project as time, money, weather and most likely my current mood or fad allows.
What we do on this channel is exactly as the tag line describes....We Fix, Drive, Ride and Fly.
I hope you stick about and enjoy

Where do Bongos RUST? Scrapping the Mazda Bongo!
มุมมอง 1.5K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
I take a good look at all the areas a Mazda Bongo rusts as I part out my spare van. I did intend to get this van road worthy but it was just far to rusty to be worthwhile, it needs hours and hours of welding, it just wasn't economically viable! Some areas you simply cant fix! Getting the Volvo 240 ready for Welding
มุมมอง 54928 วันที่ผ่านมา
After a year of rain I have finally got the Volvo 240 into the garage so I can weld the sills on. Today we look back to the last bit of work cutting the sills off in the rain, then get the car empty, floors checked and cut the panel ready to weld in. Fixing a bodge I did years ago and other Bongo tinkering - and a little update on the fleet
มุมมอง 706หลายเดือนก่อน
The Bongo has yet another water leak, just a part of living with a Bongo. So I just get on with it and fix a part I bodged 5 years ago, hey it lasted 5 years so can it be called a bodge? A few side quests of little fixes I've been meaning to do for months and even years. In the middle of all that, we take a little look at the rest of the fleet too. The NEC Practical Classics Restoration show is upon us, my Reliant Robin LE93 driveway resto will be on display as part of the Reliant Owners Club 50 year celebration of the Robin. A few things to do before the car is ready, my master cylinder is leaking, the boot wont open and my rear fog lights don't work. I need to get those fixed to get an MoT so I can drive LE93 to the show. Facebook: face...

Mazda Bongo Rear Springs - Changing them on my driveway
Popped past on Saturday and seen then Ant. You must have been away from the stand as I didn’t see you about to say hello.
I was probably having a wander about 😀 Cheers for popping by, the red Ant was lovely wasn't it.
i can collect all that scrap for free
😆
Did you shout "beep" on behalf of the Ant?
😆
Is that an option for the ant…combine van life with 3 wheels
There is one with a camper box on the back.
@ is it called the ants nest?
It's so cute! ❤
Your first like and comment 🫡👍🇮🇪
Did they not make a few ants with mini dust bins on the back for collection of garbage.
Yes they did
@@StevesMachines I asked this because a few of them were shipped to the island of Barbados but they did not last very long.
Barbados, cool, I didn't know that.
@@StevesMachines yes, the cabs were red and the curved top bins with roll up sides were grey. There was one discarded on a vacant lot for years until it rotted into the ground.
I've seen photos of the ones in the UK, Will have to see if I can find a pic
I’ll be there tomorrow 🙂
well done you .Looks great .
You're looking more and more like Roger Delgardo. That makes you " The Master" of three wheelers 😊
😆
Dave looks like he could do with a bacon sandwich 🥪
Aren't you a bit early for the Restoration Show? Have a great weekend!
Yeah 😆
Fantastic stuff, enjoy the NEC! I’m sadly not there this year (I have a very ruined Suzuki that needs urgent attention).
Take an image before you strip👍
Excellent manoeuvrability with theAnt Steve👍👍
@@martinhacche1329 Wheel dollies make it nice and easy.
That actually came back off more easily than I expected!
The joys of editing 😆
😂@@StevesMachines
Cuz, seriously loving your content. Proud of ya
Cheers Cuz, always tinkering me, more broken cars than sense 😆
I think I’ve got one of those crank handles kicking around if you want a spare mate
Thanks for the offer buddy, the owner is fitting a Kubuto diesel with electric start.
@ no worries mate 👍👍
Aren't we sadistic laughing at you hurting yourself 😁 You were lucky it didn't break your arm, that's the danger with them. Obviously real men started them back in the day 💪😏👍🇮🇪
I'm not a real man, I'm a spaghetti monster 😆
Tow it 🤗👍🇮🇪
Hiya butt, love your vids, been watching since the early reliant days lol. I need to ask a massive favour regarding a reliant....... I've got a Robin that I suspect has a blown head gasket, could you possibly diagnose and repair it? I cant be far away from you cos we got the same accent lol
wow, thats rusty!!! interesting video - i've never been under mine but my garage has always been good on fixing small bits of rust affordable, keeping the old girl on the road !
Kept on top of they are great.
Stick to Reliants, there's far less rust
And easier to work on. Ant revival soon, it's making its way to the NEC in Nov.
@@StevesMachines Can't wait to see that. Will it be an 850cc engine of one from something exotic?
Probably an 850, but I do wonder if the 1000cc Aprilia motor would be awesome in there.
@@StevesMachines That would make it a flying ant that can really sting!
I don't see any positive that can come from mending that.. Unless you have endless time and endless materials. All you have is an outline of a chassis 😂
Yeah way too far gone so I stripped it for parts, it's sacrifice will keep my good van running for years to come 😀
@@StevesMachines that's worse than my old vitara xl7 and that was horrific 🤣
All it needs is premium quality concrete. I have taxed much worse……
Feck me they rot worse than a Transit.
Yeah but a transit does it in five years, this van took 29 years 😆
Not will it start. More Will it pass an MOT. If not, a weekends work init ? lol
You have to tape a few a hundred twenties underneath that one to pass an mot 😆
Mine has to go after 11 years ownership and 190k miles. Finally rust.
They do like to rust sadly, my keeper has had a lot of welding over the years.
@@StevesMachinesto be fair they are 30 years old. Mine was undersealed twice since getting to the U.K. but only welded once on a patch on one sill. Now the non undersealed parts have got a few holes forming so it’s time.
If it's only small bits it's worth doing.
Looking great man! We've got a '79 245 in almost the same colour, and of course it also needs a lot of TLC before it sees the road again. Your interior looks to be in great nick, should be a real nice example when you're finished with it 🤙
Cheers, Hopefully will be on the road soon, I'm looking forward to having a proper drive about in it.
Always wondered for 60 years why they nene put two wheels at the front and one rear. Like the old Morgan.
I heard it was to allow it to be stable with 4 passengers.
@StevesMachines o I see. Maybe somebody building one. a two seater special. A low rider. . Have a good un. 👍
You'd be able to tickle the carb as you drive along 🤗👍🇮🇪
Manual NOS 😆
Fantastic, cleaned a head motorbike head with valve lapping paste on a few sheets of glass
How well did it turn out?
The build I’m looking forward to 😎
I'm taking the Ant to the NEC to display as it is on the 8th to 10th Nov, then when it gets back it's going in the garage to get started.
After the volvo 😂@@StevesMachines
Yeah 😆
Shoulda changed the paper every five mins it goes dull...
Yeah we did, went through a whole pack.
time honoured method when I was a young mechanic 40 odd years ago. skimming was for when the head was really bad
It's working a treat so far
Sheet of glass and grinding paste.
Runs better than a lot of this modern crap
brilliant video ! Please come them coming - its excellent - i originally subscribed for your excelent Bongo content, but the Volvo is just as great - cant wait for the next installment ! Hope the lass gets better from the cold :(
Cheers 😀 She is on the mend. More Bongo content coming soon 😀
Great to see you back at it on here!
Cheers 😀
I ❤ those robins van or hatch back..
Well done lads. As soon as I spotted your setup with the marble I knew it was gunna be flat. Just a matter of perseverance, sanding away.
It ate through the sanding sheets, another pack and it would have been perfect 😀
Thats the way to do it for little £££🤗👍🇮🇪
Just subscribed pal, great work, make sure you use a load of rust converter, and zinc primer on the untreated areas when you’ve welded bits. The moisture will have it again, until next time. 💪
Cheers, Funny you should say that, I have a box of zinc primer on order, I need to buy some weld seal too 😀
@@StevesMachines good man, I’m obsessed with zinc primer it’s the best, get some tiger seal seam sealer. 👍
I've got some Tiger Seal here, I'm going to use it to try and change the lenses on the 928 headlights
You’re brave Steve. Fighting typical Welsh weather 😢
It won for a year 😆
It's great to have you back. It would have been criminal if that lovely car had gone to the scrapyard
Apart from the sills the car is so nice. I'm actually looking forward to polishing it
Cracking cars. I had a 2.3 240. 7 seater. Only had 20k on it.
This one is a 2.3, I was hoping it had the extra pull up seats in the rear.
Great to see you on the volvo, its a really interesting job to see done, British weather just doesnt work with car repairs !
The weather has been a nightmare in 2024, wettest year ever!
@@StevesMachines Since August 2023 i think !
Nice one Steve, keep the project momentum going, it will be on the road in no time 😉👍👍
Cheers Mike
I was just getting used to 'FIX DRIVE RIDE FLY' Then you changed it and lost you fella 😂Nice to see you back 🍻 Cheers..
It was too hard to say 😆
I prefer unedited videos because for me it's the way youtube was meant to be, to many trying to be professional editors now an spoils the feel of the video, so just keep it real as Ali G says!
I have to edit out the hours and hours of me sobbing 😭 😆
It was good to see an update on your fleet. Looking forward to seeing future episodes on the 928S and you sorting the new radiator so it can be reunited with the rest of the fleet. 👍🏻
Cheers, fingers crossed the new radiator arrives in time
