Will it start? 1940 Ford V8
Today, I take a quick look at what I've been up to for the last few weeks, and then dive into trying to start an ol' 1940 Ford flathead V8 that was in a cabin I've just purchased. I hope you enjoy the journey.

Workshop & Case 580 backhoe repairs
มุมมอง 575หลายเดือนก่อน
Having a look at a few different things, this time. Firstly, the local crop duster is so close to the workshop, you can almost read the part number on the spray nozzles, Then a look at the Perkins waterpump while running. A quick job on our 16 tonne excavator, and then we start fixing up the Kubota waterpump.

Hi again and welcome to the channel. Today is another 'mixed bag' of goodies. Firstly, we swap out the noisy AC compressor on my Isuzu truck, add oil and re-gas the system, and also do a small modification to the wiring to eliminate 'clutch drag' on the compressor. Then myself and Wayne from work, go out and pick up a bunch of concrete pipes for an upcoming repair on a creek crossing on the pro...

A bit of a 'mixed bag' in this episode. I start off trying to fix a lawnmower that I picked up for ten bucks which turned into a much bigger job than I ever wanted to do. Also picking up my brothers bike from the transport depot, then unloading it and firing her up to make sure that 'all is...

Thanks Damien, from what I've found on the interweb, and using the chassis & gearbox numbers, this is a very early 1941 model (maybe January or February??) I assumed it was the 60hp model engine, but in a 3 tonne truck, and of that year, it could be either the 85hp or the 90hp. Still trying to work it out. Thanks for the comment. :-)

I have an 8BA. It started as a 6 volt positive ground. I currently run it 12V negative ground. The starter doesn't seem to care about polarity. Somehow it just spins the way you need. Also the voltage doesn't seem to bother them. People run them at 12V all the time.

Mornin Pete . Our day started about 25c on its way about 45c today . But as we say , "it's a dry heat " 😳 When I was a kid , I could tell the brand of diesel engines of the time by the sound . Thanks to you and Steve I can now distinguish the sound of a Perkins 6-354 . I'm sure we had them here also , big not near as common as the Mack , Cummins and Detroits we had here. Hard to tell the new modern diesels , since they all have high pressure fuel systems and turbos now . Here is a question that I have thought about for the last week or so . Since you done the tyres on your loader. Why is it that the inside of the wheels do not rust far more than they do ? That old pump ran good and did its job perfectly mate . Was good to let work a little after a long rest . I agree with oldamericaniron on snakes. I just steer as clear as farI can from them. I agree , there was good variety in this video , keeps it interesting . Take care Pete , I will look forward to the next video . Scott 🌵

Hi again Pete, talked to you last evening and woke up this morning to the video. To an old guy like me the technology is still amazing. I remember when a “long distance “phone call an hour long to a place 40 miles away would have cost as much as driving there. Now we can communicate with someone on the other side of the world as much as we want for a small flat fee each month. I chuckled about the curry comment as I did have a curried chicken meat pie on the road trip with Steve and Nick to Dave’s place. I probably would have resorted to the cutting torch to cut down the cutting edge. Main thing is job done well. I think when it comes time to sell the purchaser can be confident he is getting a good machine.

I have vivid memories of waiting until after 8pm to get the cheaper rate for the long distance calls from when I was a kid. As always, it was great to have a chat and catch up.

I use propane for heating and cutting and propane is cheap to fill out of my bulk tank for house.

Hi Andrew, yes I had dishwashing liquid in the water. I probably should have mentioned that in the video. My bad! Ha ha! And yes I did check out other vid's on the subject, and had a good chat with Steve about it. There's lot's of different tricks & methods for these. Maybe should've gone a bit more 'in depth' with it?

Hi Scott, I'll give the recoil some 'lovin' when I fit a new cord to it. I'm using normal dishwashing liquid with it. Someone else in the comments asked about this, so I probably should've said something. My bad!
