Trolley Rail Track Joint Plates
มุมมอง 291วันที่ผ่านมา
I've cut my 12 foot - 3.6 metre long rail tracks in half for easy storage. These angle iron plates are used to secure them back together when in use. They need to be very substantial as my milling machine weighs one and three quarter tons. That's the first job they're required for.

A re-up from my previous Tony Works Wood channel which I no longer use. It's all just having fun. Gluing timber to make a lifting gantry to move my Grimston half a ton pedestal drilling machine. It worked a treat. Here's the video of it in action th-cam.com/video/FUllwaZh3Ww/w-d-xo.htmlsi=zR1Yi_tvNGR5aWC7

nice one Tony i've been known to measure 5 times and cut 5 times🤣🤣🤣🤣🎅🎅👍👍😉😉 anyone who's never made mistakes has never done anything best wishes Kev
You're right there, Kev. Thanks for the laugh. ATB.....Tony
That is a nice drill press.
@hilltopmachineworks2131 Hi Tom. It's was made by Grimston in the UK. No longer in business, unfortunately. It's extremely heavy, weighs approx half a ton. Thanks for your interest.......Tony
That looks great! Nice work. If your drill press table is rigid enough, you could have saved a lot of time by bolting the vise to the table in the correct Y direction for all holes, both pilot and finish. Then you would only have to locate the part in the X direction. I've done that many times over the years. Thanks for the video. Regards.
@KW-ei3pi The holes are not equal distance from the outside edge. The angle iron varies in width. That's why I'm unable to clamp the vise in one position on the table. I'm working from the inside face of the angle iron. The angle iron also varies in thickness, which also throws the holes out of line if the vise is clamped in one position. That's why it looks like I'm boring the holes randomly, but I'm not. I've used a template to pilot drill the positions. Thank you for your input, appreciated.....Tony
That all went alright. 👍
I'm with you on that Stuart top man
Great work, this came out good. We have a X/Y vice on our pillar drill and that works well for this type of job
WOW.....Top guys........Tony

Hello Tony, Good video, you really showed the importance of taking your time to mark out correctly and using a datum... Excellent stuff... Take care. Paul,,

Short and sweet Tony, marking up is a bit of a trial for me, like the way you did that. ATB, Cliff
@CliffsShed Thanks, Cliff. If there's an easy way with the same outcome, I'll choose that way every day. Cheers Tony
Part 1!? Not expecting cliffhangers Tony
@phantomsnaz86 Hi p-86 thanks for the feedback. There is too much content for one video. I don't make long videos anymore. I've tried them, they don't work for me. Never thought of it that way, lol. Cheers Tony
Very nice Tony! I have once drilled long rails and had to mount brackets to my shelves for support. My benchtop drill press is not very practical for large jobs.
@improviseddiy Holding and machining long components in small workshops always brings up new challenges. Luckily, this one was pretty easy. You must have been pulling your hair out with at the time. Cheers Tony
@@eyuptony I am used to struggling! 🤣🤣
It was good to see how you marked the angle iron up, that seemed like a great way to do it. It is always hard to find ways to support long lengths of material for drilling
@GardenTractorBoy Cheers Joseph. The marking up is accurate enough for this odd as it's not required to be that precise.......Tony
Odd job lol
always productive work Tony😉😉👍👍 see you next time regards Kev
@MrFactotum Thanks Kev. You're a star. Cheers Tony 👍

Hello Tony, What a cool tool... anything that saves time is good in my book. Thanks for sharing. Cheers. Paul,,
@TheKnacklersWorkshop Definitely saves time in production. We had three of these set up permanently drilling holes for KD knock down assembly fittings for wardrobes. I'll post a video later showing the set up. A fabricated drilling rig with three small converted bench drills. I did this back in the 1980's. ATB....Tony
Hello Tony, Nice to get that job finished so you can get your tools in there... Cheers. Paul,,
@TheKnacklersWorkshop Spot on Paul. Got sick of raking in carrier bags. Which bags that in lol. Cheers Tony
Hello Tony, How funning I was just tucking into a biscuit or two with my coffee - haha. I have seen the joiners in my workshop using one, I have always thought it was such a good tool. Take care. Paul,,
@TheKnacklersWorkshop This is a very underrated tool, Paul. Often scoffed at (pun intended) by snobbery the brainwashed who have never used one extensively to help them earn a living for decades and by those who condemn it because they're following the sheep. Fantastic tool if it's used in the right hands. I wouldn't be without mine......Tony
Hello Tony, It looks good on the trolley, it's be a good project tagging along with... Take care. Paul,,
Thanks all the way Paul. There's a couple more to go. Just on with the next episode at the moment. Cheers Tony
Hello Tony, The paint really pulled the whole trolley together, it looks very good. I like the tip on removing a run/drip... Cheers. Paul,,
Yes the paint is fantastic for a rattle can. Thanks again Paul.......Tony
Hello Tony, Excellent welding there... a skill I wish I had mastered... Cheers. Paul,,
@@TheKnacklersWorkshop I wish Paul but thank you. Welding is rewarding when the results come out well. That's on an amateur level criticising one's self......Tony
Hello Tony, Cool clamping setup to stop the vibration... and supporting the blade to allow it to follow as straight path was interesting. Take care. Paul,,

Thank you Habibur for your kind compliment on my channel content. Unfortunately I do not have the additional time required to learn and put into practice the skills which you have. Producing content and editing is very time consuming. I know all these factors exist which will increase my viewing figures, but not being highly skilled in computers, the internet, filming and editing, I have to draw the line as my brain overloads. Hence my now simpler approach effect wise to my finished videos. Less is more and easer. Everybody has life, work and play skills, but nobody's an expert on everything.
