I ran an independent bookstore for 11 years mostly in the 90s and was heartbroken how borders easily buried us within a year …I think news like this will reduce print runs and make physical books more collectible in general (with the possible exception of print on demand books)
The up side for book store employees is that Costco won't be undercutting us on price. They also won't be breaking their strict on sale dates when we can't, meaning customers won't scream at us because their friend bought the new whatever the big thing is four days ago, and why can't we sell it?

Good. I support local independent booksellers. Costco would constantly undercut them.
