I replace the climate control box in my 1984 SVO Mustang Mustang. They should be the same process for any 1979 to 1986 fox body Mustang. These units tend to fail and can be difficult to find or expensive once you do. Don’t fear this is an easy DIY job that anyone can do.

get a medical syringe with a small gauge needle..... fill the syringe with WD40, PB Blaster etc.... push the needle in.... and you should be able to pump the lube in..... let it set..... work it after that....
Thanks for the video! Ordering some right now!
Thank you
Probably one of the most descriptive, and best videos I've seen. Bravo! Thank you.
This is the last way I'd repair this.
That's what I was going to suggest, remove cable, on the bench work graphite thoroughly working cable back and forth
I would love more SVO updates please.
Oh man. I’ve got so many just not focused on social media these days. I rebuilt the engine and put a boport head. Although the motor locked up on me.
I love the engine setup.
The can says 5 min, definately dries faster than that even in cooler weather, agree with what you say, 1 min then apply, better get right first time. LOL
Hi hope all is well love the videos. im looking to buy. A 84 definitely some rust on both. Frane rail. And towers. The guys is asking 4k he did some upgrades pimpx. Etc. 900cc injector. Turbo. Just worried about the rust like yours.
So you still have it.
As of August 2023 prices for a Stock, Clean Notch (5.0 5 Speed) are $20-$25k...
I like it looks like it would make a lot of jobs a lot easier mostly like tires and suspension but it don't cost what a post lift costs but it's still able to lift your truck pretty impressed
I have an 85 SVO with a pimpx I have a mis fire under boost and a hard hit start . Does the ICM cause this issue , did yours have these symptoms?
How do you put the knobs on? I have a clip stuck on my lever and a knob with a clip on it. How do you remove the clip?
Great DIY. I'm not a welder either but, pretty much gonna do what you did. SVO is cool too.👍
Love this idea, i can save my grill. By that point i would just pitch it and buy new
Portable! Need to used your head wen it is considered portable. It is not the same portability as a floor jack. The idea behind is you have the ability to move it in your shop. I rather have a good scissor lift that I cam move around in my garage instead of having 2 post lift. You can easily lift your riding mower your motocycle and use it as hydraulic lifting table also.
How did this set up run? I saw in another vid you were wanting a smaller turbo so it would spool sooner. Do you have a stock head/cam?
I am attempting to relocate my TFI in the fender well behind the battery, I bought a newer plug because I thought mine was about like yours was that came off but it wasn't bad at all and the new one had smaller gauge wire so I'm using my original plug and wires. My question is how to tie those three wires into my car, do I go from the plug to the pip and just forget about the wires that'd be left cut on the original harness? Or do I need to splice them in to maintain signal to the ecu? I got a different style TFI that doesn't have the three prongs sticking out. I'm hoping it will work. Thanks in advance! Love the car love the channel! My car is an 86 SVO.
Link doesn't work, even on harbor freight site you type scissor lift/jack and nothing. They're not selling it anymore. Discontinued.
Cool headlight upgrade.
Did using apoxy hold up? I'm restoreing my 83 and I just realized mine is broken.
This is the best video I've seen yet for an auger jam I'm gon to have to remember this trick
Thank you! I'm about to do a headliner... this video gave me peace of mind with that brand of spray. Stay good! 🤙🏻 :D
Fox body mustangs yes are up in price, but that condition I’d say is worth $6500. The notch/coupes are worth that now MAYBE in good working condition. That GT would be a good restoration project but needs a lot of TLC.
My door actuator also didn't work did you ever figure it out??
Hey Angel. I just replaced my two actuators and they dont work. What was your solution? Relays?
Im glad someone did a real video. Thank you! I have all full sized trucks i feel alot more comfortable buying one after this video
Has it held up ?
Hi ,question .did you just kinda blend move the metal brake lines away from tower just enough to work around? Or you had to remove them completely? Thanks looks great!
As a master tech why take out the seat lol, but whatever it takes to do it comfortable I guess, I'm contorted daily in the worst ways under dash boards ect I'm sure I'll regret it as I get older🤙
How mm thickness of the steel material? thanks
Not sure. It’s been a while since I had this.
@@mrautomotif8996 okey thx, just want to make sure the strength from the material thickness 🙏

Few questions. How did you lower the k member down enough? and how did you support it?
Sorry man just noticed this. I only lowered one side. After removing the bolts the cradle dropped a few 1/8ths just enough to slide the new steel in place. I used a jack under that side to control it.
Any chance you have part number for a IAC connector or know who sells them? I have a black 84 model not as nice as yours but it is a running driving car. I'm working my way front to back through the brakes right now. The wiring under the hood is shot. What I'm planning is a conversion to a Speeduino so I can eliminate the VAM and get something I can tune. Right now my turbo and injectors are stock, it runs pretty good. Any info on under hood connectors would be a big help. I've not looked close yet but thinking I can maybe use Ford Ranger 2.3 crank and cam wheels and sensors, that is provided they will fit. I've also got most of the parts for a serpentine belt swap. Good looking SVO. Thanks, DC
hey guys so glad i found this video im stressing and looking for some insight... I'm not sure which ones I have however does anyone know if the vacuum routings are the same on the rear of the control units? Both are AC except one is without rear defrost.. I know theres difference in colours.. green and red or whatever? But ive also noticed the wording is different.. such as MIX - Heat and Hi-low- floor much like the ones in the video... im guessing you had no issues @Mrautomotif since you never mentioned anything?
Can you send me the link of this headlight??? Please I need to buy them just bought a Svo 84 too!

First off the fact you have a 2.3 Turbo SVO makes me drool like an idiot, so very nice. To anyone doing this their is a major thing to stay away from when doing this.. Make sure wherever you run this wire their is no magnetic or high emi/emp sources such as the alternator even with the ground and foil wrap. When wrapping up your wiring (As he mentions make sure to use good wire loom tape and or friction tape, it'll handle the conditions better. And if you are mounting this around the front of the car or anywhere where water can get to the icm/tfi module make sure to give that small lid that gives access to the chip inside a good seal with black sealant to keep water out just as a back up. These ICM and or TFi's aren't easy to find good ones (even the Motorcraft ones are no good now days) and they are expensive so give the module the best chance at life (If you cannot afford a Motorcraft unit then go with the "Wells" made Autozone version Part #122, It'll say Duralast but it's made by Wells) And remember if you are having ignition issues it's not always the module.. especially if you have no injector pulse or the coil isn't firing, if that's your symptoms then it's 99% chance it's the PIP sensor. And no the chances of you finding a OEM Motorcraft PIP are extremely low. I got my hands on one but it took 3 years. The Hall effect sensor got hit by the Timing drum inside the dizzy and broke off the magnet therefore killing the car. If their is any sense of wisdom I can give you in this manner is to NOT use an Auto parts distributor (Cardone, Spectre, MSD etc etc) because they are junk and can run the risk of hurting your car badly, So do whatever you can to rebuild your original Ford Motorcraft Unit and make sure to check the bushings and any wonder in the dizzy shaft. Best of luck to you all.. -Neptuned
I totally agree. I’m about to switch over to the stinger performance CAS kit which eliminates the TFI entirely. Not a cheap option but would give me complete control via the Pimpx ecu.
Had a similar issue with a car just died out of nowhere . Reloaded base tune and it was enough to get me home
You try reloading base tune?
Those holsets are dogs in stop and go. But they haul at higher RPMs
Yes top end is great. I’ve thought about going with something that boosts faster.
This really relieved some anxiety since I just bought a 84 ltd fox body with same area damaged on the frame rail. Except mine is bent right before the strut tower, I’m determined to get it fixed. I’ve wanted one since I first seen one when I was 12. Plus it’s the baby version of my daily 86 grand marquis I drive. Also amazing job on fixing it ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Another option is to install a tube frame from the strut tower forward. The ideal fix is to buy new factory metal for the frame rail. If you can remove the motor then it’s the best way to go. Just have to drill a lot of rivets. Best of luck.
@@mrautomotif8996 thank you I truly appreciate the reply. This has helped me majorly. I was legit pacing back and forth in disbelief of what I seen thinking it was worse then it is (in terms of thinking it wasn’t fixable) glad to know it is. I truly appreciate the vid and info. I defiantly will pull motor. Clean it up and start fresh ❤️🔥
@@mrautomotif8996 do you by chance know what metal and where I could get it from that would be best for this type of frame? I’ve been trying to figure that out. The spacing between the two front wheel from the edge of the wheel housing is both different. Driver side the wheel is closer to the wheel hosing outer edge and passenger side is in more then the driver side. This worries me. But still going to do my best to have it fixed or drive it as best as I can get it fixed. Everything is so clean on it except the front end damage it makes me sad 😞 hood and fenders need slightly aligned. Defiantly got some work ahead of me. This video gave me hope for it. I’ll make a video of it and post link back later if you’d be interested in taking a look at the vid. If not it’s ok :)
@@ashtonharvey5723 Metal Supermarkets is where I buy mine. They have decent prices and can cut to size for you. I believe I used 1/8th inch steel that was 3” or 4” wide and 4’ long. I did have to make some pieces more narrow or notched using a saw zaw.
@@mrautomotif8996 that is awesome, thank you so much for the info. I really appreciate it. I got a saw zall as well. :)
As a woman, I have a 89 foxbody. I'm very overwhelmed and discouraged. I'll try your diy. Thank you
Women are just as capable of doing it too. It just all about taking your time and prepping to take it apart/ repair it. It isn’t as bad as it might seem.
If I had a garage floor like yours I would be afraid to spill on it.
So with you adding metal to the underside of the frame rail on the one side only will that not make the K member higher on one side than the other. Front end geometry off !!??
It’s possible by about an 1/8th inch but so far we haven’t had an issue. Car runs straight and level. If it was an issue I could washer the other side. I don’t think my approach is the best but better than others I’ve seen.
This was very useful. I just replaced the unit in my 86 Mustang LX convertible. Before putting it all back together I lubricated the temperature control wire with some white lithium grease made by CRC (it comes in a spray can). I sprayed it into the wire housing and pulled/pushed the wire in/out a few times to spread the grease around. The wire now goes in and out without binding. While I was in there I also took off the instrument cluster and lubricated the speedometer cable which had been noisy and causing the speedo needle to "bounce." FWIW I replaced the CC box with one from a 79 Fairlane. It only cost $50.00 and is identical to my original except that its illumination is a turquoise color instead of red, but that's something that I can live with.
Jesus, 2 minutes in, dude.
yep 2minute mark is where things start happening.
Where did you get the black covers for the lights ? I have an 84 svo looking to do the same to mine
It’s tinted vinyl wrap. The lights shine through it. Not sure where I bought it but should be easily searched for.
I have this job to do next week on my 85GT. Cool wife you got there mine would laugh at me if I asked her to get in there and do that. Really not looking forward to this job but when it gets bad I'll at least know I wasn't alone suffering!
