Beautiful design! Tfs, Laura ❤
I like that wheelie cart thingy.
I have a folding screen (lightweight, canvas art screen, bought on Amazon). I’ll just drape the flannel over the top (maybe a bit of tape on the back side). I can fold it up and set it out of the way.
Wish I were there to help! I loved sewing, but it's been so long since I did. My fingers just don't work so well now!🥰
👏👏👏 I like your idea, planning, presentation and perseverance!!! I must say the ”piece de resistance” would be the trial samples making The Hungry Catepillar😝🥰 Thank you for giving us this opportunity! ❤️😀
It took me a moment...the hungry caterpillar....OH HA HA HAHAHA !
❤ that was interesting, great idea!
I'm so glad you watched and enjoyed! Thanks!
I really enjoyed watching you plan and implement your ideas. I use a Cheryl’s portable flannel design wall or a quilt display hanger with heavy duty flannel handing from it. Neither are very movable as things fall off and they are not on wheels. But….you have given me some great ideas about using castors on the display stand or putting the portable flannel display on the garment cart I have on my attic 👏🏻
Yay! I'm so glad you were inspired!
Tape yardsticks across the the back connecting pannels for extra support.
You're right, yardsticks could definitely work! I'll see how much my local hardware store sells them for. Thanks for watching!
@@StitchingaPath did some searching. Beacons Hold The Foam. Comes highly recommended.
I use a flannel tablecloth tacked to the wall works perfectly. Used for several years
Great idea!
I can't wait to see this finished. I love the quilting pattern choice.
Thank you! It's looking pretty wild!
By the way, this is an absolutely fabulous idea!!!!
Thanks so much for watching!
E6000 glue? Or would that due the same thing?
When I was at Joann yesterday, I looked at E6000 and it, too, is not recommended for polystyrene. But thanks anyways for the idea!
Thank you so much! That is just the what I need. Will try to make a moveable design wall using all your good tips.
I hope you make one and that you find it useful! I'm about to start using mine with a hexagon project. Thanks a million for watching!
I have now hand quilted 5 EPP quilts and am about to start on my 6th. Mostly, I have done an overall repeat pattern across the width of the quilt, because for me it's all about colour, not so much the quilting, and my favourite go-to is a clamshell pattern. On this latest version, I have laid the hexies out in diamonds, with a dark single layer border all around each one. The plan for this quilt is firstly to do a simple running stitch in the diagonal borders, in a contrasting colour to the border. Depending on how that stabilises, I shall then work more into each diamond. I use a fine large eye embroidery needle with 12wt perle cotton for the borders and will work into the diamonds with 40wt coated quilting cotton. I find quilting over hexies isn't too bad if you choose a pattern that doesn't intersect with every.single.seam, and I'm not a great fan of over-quilting hexie quilts, which are already quite heavy. Too much stitching just makes them really stiff. That's OK if they're for display, but I make quilts to be used, and a nice drape is better.
As I've been quilting this EPP project I've noticed that it's going to be on the stiffer side. Something I didn't anticipate: rookie error! Another viewer mentioned the stiffness tendency, too. Since it's going to be a wall hanging, I'm going to try not to worry about it. But now that I know about this, I will definitely do less quilting in the future on any EPP bed quilts. Your latest quilt sounds lovely!
Loved watching you create this. I was thinking you could velcro or tape a like 8 or longer' pole or wood to each side of the roller frame. They would extend up high enough on each end, stabilizing the upper board., I made mine out of the 2" home insulation and screwed into the wall, I like your moveable idea better, my lighting sucks. You didnt describe what you were doing with the lighting. Was it for the front or back? New sub! You're a delight to watch!
I definitely could have been clearer about the lighting! I need it for making videos on cloudy days, and need to be able to roll it around my sewing space. Thanks for the stability pole idea. Maybe long wooden dowels would work, as long as they are thick enough? And thank you so much for subscribing!
That's so cool. And I can think of many uses for a rig like that!
You know I appreciate you watching these videos!!
Very clever. great job and well done. CONGRATULATIONS
Thank you very much!
Great idea with the rolling rack. Love it.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
I'd like to see a video of how you use a design wall
I'll be using it in my next video, hopefully out in two weeks or so. Thanks for watching!
My sister is a quilter and I figured out how to make a rolling design wall for her about 10 years ago. We made it double sided. I took one of those $10.00 rolling garment racks from Walmart and 2 pieces of that 4 x 8 insulation board from Home Depot, and wrapped them in flannel and attached them with the velcro ties like you used, but we slit the insulation and pushed the velcro ties through it, so no glue involved. We then just attached one on each side of the rolling rack so she can work on two different projects at the same time. She can just flip it around to whichever side she is working on and move it where she needs it to be and move it out of the way when she is not using it and needs more room. We originally did it because the room she was using as her sewing room was a sunroom with lots of windows and not much wall space to put her boards on. Her first space she just had them leaning up against the wall, but they were warping. On this rack that doesn't happen. We actually made two sets of them. The house she is in now, she usually just uses one set of them.
I like how yours was two sided! I'm wondering if mine will start warping in its slightly reclined position on the cart. I may end up adding extra velcro ties. Thanks for watching and sharing about your build!
That is brilliant!
Did you re color it ?
Unfortunately, not yet. But it's always at the back of my mind, because I'd love to get started with the quilting part. This time I'm going to print a sample, and not only on the cotton lawn fabric. Spoonflower now has a 56" cotton sateen that I'm going to try to see if the fabric type makes a difference. Thanks so much for watching and stay tuned!
I have a double closet in my sewing room. I purchased the easy to install "Quik hang" curtain brackets, a curtain rod the length of my closet that fits the brackets. I install on my top molding of the closet. I bought a wide piece of flannel with the grid, sewed a rod pocket. Viola! The rod/brackets do not hinder the opening and closing of my closet because they are above the doors. I can bring the flannel to the side and use a tieback when not in use. Also, I got the wide grid flannel for block placement, but I wish I had purchased a more coordinated flannel to match my decor. But, I still love it.
Quick hang curtain bracket?? Brand?? Thanks for sharing your idea 😊😊 trying to decide which direction I'm going with design wall options
Grid flannel? Hmmm...sounds extremely useful!! I love how creative people get when making these design boards/walls. Thanks for sharing!
This is also a possibility for me. Thank you for telling. Will Check that before buying insulating board
@@pamelavance648 KWIK HANG sorry!
Where did you buy wide Grid flannel ?
Use pins to keep your fabric in place.
I'm sure I'll be relying quite a bit on pins!
Love your cats pillow! My design wall is from Fons & Porter. My husband made me a huge wooden frame and stapled the F&P wall to the frame, then screwed the frame into the wall. It worked great. A couple of pieces of PVC pipe might offer enough support on the back?
I think it's going to be ok after all when both panels are stacked and the cart is parked. It's so tall with both of them that I can't really wheel it around much!
Thank you for the great video! My sewing room is upstairs and has the slanting ceiling like yours. I only use it for sewing, not a spare bedroom. I used decorative button pins and just pinned my flannel directly to the wall. Looking forward to your next video! 🎃🎃🎃
Thank you for watching! Slanting ceilings are cozy but don't offer a lot of hanging room!
I like your quilts and the paint chip art. Very pretty.
Thank you so much!
That is so cool. New sub here. The pipe thingies are called pipe insulation or Armaflex. I desperately need a designwall, too. I bought ceiling mount curtain rods from Ikea to make one, but this will not happen this year. Hopefully, this will be a 2025 project.
Ooo ceiling mount curtain rods...a good idea!! I hope you get your design wall in 2025. Thanks for being a subscriber!
You did a fantastic job! Most first projects are things like simple aprons! I’m 78 and started sewing when I was 3. Doll clothes came early and most of that was just playing around with it. The summer after 3rd grade, mid 1950s, so full skirts, I made my first dress and changed it quite a bit. I did have help from my mother, though! She put in the zipper and hemmed it. Speaking of zippers, if you can find a Simplicity Sewing Book, you will have a great reference book! When you get to the stage of needing to sew in a zipper, I still refer to the instructions on the paper that they come in. Save it for reference so you can use other brands afterwards if you want. Good luck. You can do it! I have a feeling that you are quite capable of doing more and enjoying the process!
I have the Readers Digest sewing book, but I will be sure to check out the Simplicity book. Zippers are on my list of things to conquer!
@@StitchingaPath My kids all decided they knew how to sew so would not listen to me - until they got married and were trying things! LOL! One really likes to sew and has done very well - meticulous! She did eventually want to move on from quilts and started making zippered bags. They are actually a good place to start since they are small. She found info on YT, of course, and finally called me. We watched the same video together and I would tell her more specific info than the video had. The more you do something, the less you remember to mention it! She is making a dress with a lapped zipper now - back zipper with the zipper completely covered. It is the one that is the hardest, I think. An extra generous seam allowance in the zipper area makes it a lot easier. You machine baste the part of the seam where the zipper goes, so it helps to mark the seam line, the cut it wider. Practicing on something small is a very good idea. Practicing frogging one isn't a bad idea, either. You seam ripperS are your friends! They are just sewing erasers. I have several different types!
My aunt is an awesome quilter she goes to a quilt shop in Mass and they us in the shop those plastic table clothes you put on a table with the fuzzy stuff on the back and it works. You can get them for like under 5 each and they tack it to the wall they have it in king, queen, full and twin . Mt aunt said it works great.
Well that would have saved me a little money! I didn't even think about that fuzzy backing. And king size would have been perfect!
You can also get various sizes of flannel backed tablecloths at The Dollar Tree and if it wears out or gets messed up in any way, it does not cost much to replace or update them.
I sooooo want one of these moveable board - I dragged my 'handy-man' husband over to watch. Tomorrow I'm off to the shops to buy STUFF! Anne Kennedy - New Zealand
All the way from New Zealand! Wow! Thank you for watching!
Anne, any chance he could duck over to Melbourne when he's done?? 😂
Was it a Bunnings run…or Mitre10? 😂
Well done with the design wall it looks great. I love your sewing room. It’s awesome. One thing caught my eye though, the couch. I have been looking for a new couch because our pets have ruined our current couch. I love that your couch cover seems to be staying well in place. I am wondering if you can tell me where you got the couch. Thanks
The sofa is the "Kivik" model from Ikea and they still sell it. I've covered it with a quilt I bought from Target several years ago. Easy to wash when needed! Thank you for watching!
WOW! really beautiful colors and the computer design! Just WOW!
I really appreciate you watching!
I used peel and stick corkboard on my bedroom wall. Best decision in 40 years.
Corkboard never even crossed my mind! I love your idea!
please please please share the program!
Oh I wish I could! My husband wrote it specifically for me and doesn't have the time to make a version to share! I'm sorry!
Pin what won't stick???
Definitely!
Very innovative! I usually just tear longer lengths of flannel to yield a straight line on grain. For lighting, could you attach a long thin clamp style desk lamp to the trolley leg? Amazon has a ton of options. Thanks for reminding me about the 108 in wide flannel, instead of seaming together reg width flannel to cover mine!
I get nervous about trying to tear fabric! Thanks for the suggestion of the clamp lamp. I'll check out the options!
I don’t sew big projects, but I watched your video with great interest❤❤
I'm so glad you watched! I appreciate it!

I’ve been thinking about a hexi quilt for a long time…..you’ve inspired me ! Watching from Vancouver Island, BC 🇨🇦🌸
Go for it! And welcome to my channel!
Great vido and advice. I am STILL 😢😢 working on a large grandmother's flower garden. Unfortunately I didn't trim seams enough, used cotton batting and thicker backing. I absolutely love the quilt . However I have to up and down not rock the needle to quilt! I am hopeful to finish with in the year. Rookie hand quilting mistake.
Oh boy, I understand about the up and down needle part when I cross some of those seam allowances! Most of the times the precautions I took are working, though. When you are done it will be so worth it!
Just stunning. 😮 I appreciate the steps you took and your explanations....not too wordy, thanks! Fantastic work! ❤ 🤩😸
You are so sweet! Thanks!
Just found your videos and am loving them!
Yay! Thank you!
Oh my gosh, what a fantastic program. Your video came along at the right time, I have 900 Hexi's so far and I've already sewn them into the flower form, but now I need figure out how to put them together. Your suggestions of books is terrific. I subscribed and can't wait to start following your channel. Thank you so much. I'm only 76 but I am really enjoying expanding my quilting, which I've been doing since I was 7. Over these years, I have seen all the changes in quilting and tried almost all of them. I started with hand sewing and went to the treadle my grandmother had. We've come a long way. And isn't it fun?
I've always wanted to try a treadle! I'm trying to find a balance between hand and machine sewing as my hands sometimes give me trouble. Thank you for watching!

Mavis is beautiful!!
Awww...I will pass that on to her! She is really such a dear!
I think I said "WOW" 4 or 5 times throughout this video! Scanning, programming, numbering, sorting... wow! Beautiful work. Watched while I was sorting scraps for a hopeful mini log cabin quilt. I also have a small box of epp hexagons next to my chair. Making them with scraps but no plan. I need to work on a plan. Enjoyed your video!
Thank you!!! I'd like to try to make a log cabin quilt some day, but I don't even know where to start!
@@StitchingaPath Well there's Folded paper Piecing, the original hand piecing, but the best way is find your layout first and go shopping for fabric. Have fun.
In the center of a log cabin block, ? Color to represent the hearth/heart of your home.. 1 block at a time! Style of colors...all Scrappy? Lighter on one half, darker on the other half? Layout pattern of log cabins ?.....just a few Q to A... My first quilt is a collection of lighter to darker greens and few yellows in a quarter square log cabin, king-sized ( I didn't know any better. It was our bed size) and hand tied with yarn. It blended with the greens in the Mallard duck wallpaper border, in the adjacent bathroom... 1980's.
Hello. Thankyou for sharing. This is the first hexi quilt that I have seen that I actually like. And I have seen quite a few. She is beautiful. You have done an awesome job. Love it! ❤
Wow, thank you!!! I'm about to start on more hexi adventures!
@@StitchingaPath braver than me…I haven’t been game enough to delve into paper piecing or he is, but when I do I think I will take inspiration from your beauty as the colours go so well making a stunning design , not all washed out or flowery ..if you know what I mean. Design and colour are not my forte! Looking forward to watching more of your journey! 😃
Wow!❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for watching, I'm so glad you like the hexies!
I’ve got a little hexie quilt on the go, 1” patches. The design is single round multi coloured flowers with paths of pale grey, and I’ve found a lovely grey backing that has irregular coloured 1/4” multicoloured dots, but it’s too small a piece. So I’m going to do a hexie pieced border around the backing to coordinate. And I was also wondering about how to quilt it because of the seam allowances. It will get washed a lot and I don’t want them bunching up inside the quilt. So rather than quilt too closely, I stitched all the folds at the corners while folding them over the papers, and those sts remain after the papers come out. Hopefully that will keep the bulk neatly in place and I can quilt a bit wider apart.
Yes, those basting stitches at the corners should help keep things together. I don't think I've ever seen a hexi pieced border...cool idea!!
