I thought there weren't any ready-made models of India's trains! I've been wondering that ever since I found out big and efficient India's railway network was! I am surprised the body is 1/87 scale instead of something smaller so the tracks and wheels are properly scaled compared to the real thing, similar to how Japanese HO models are 1/80 since they're models of 3ft 6in gauge trains.

Just received the Playart Ae 6/6 Swiss Express and had problems getting it going. After adding traction tires, it ran forward, but no reverse, so I checked TH-cam. Based on your video I added grease to the gear box and noticed that it had come apart. I snapped it back together and now it runs in both directions!!! Once I get more matching cars, I will post & share a video...

You may already know this by now but the tender on those models does not pick up track power. It is an easy fix to add jumper wires to fix that. I appreciate your work.

​ @DoctorHobby gotta hand it to you bro, I've experienced my BLI locomotives (K4 Streamlined locomotive and Cab Forward locomotive) both Parargon 3 lose their pickups for no apparent reason - the smoke and lights just knock themselves out which is absolutely infuriating for sure. Abysmally bad pickups are one of the culprits after all 😂 - I always suspected this to be the case,as my other locomotives have no problems at all navigating my track layout. The rest of my locomotives are Athearn, Scaletrains, Rapido ,Bachmann SDS and Auscision (Only got 3 other steamers), and they run just fine. I wonder what the hell BLI were thinking when they had designed these locomotives with as bad pickups as they have.

I have the KATO HO executive observation car. It's a nice car, but it doesn't match the Walthers "Real Metal" finish. My layout is actually N scale, and currently I have the very nice KATO "Topeka" exec observation car, a 4-4-2 "Regal Spa" sleeper, a Dining car, and a Bachmann Big dome that needs the rapido couplers changed to micro-trains. Since it's a pre-merger Santa Fe era train, I'm running Athearn FP45's for my motive power. They were originally made for passenger trains, so no power car needed! A baggage car will be my next addition, and probably at least one other sleeper car. Thanks for the great video!

I started DCC with Athern Blue Box upgraded to DCC with Digitrax decoders. Now I buy some Walthers but most of my diesels are BLI locomotives. Unlike you I think they are great. A little bit of programming gets the sound and function you want. Most people don’t have layouts big enough to worry about maximum pulling power, if you do have room then run a consist.

I have a question, did you put the decals on yourself or did someone put them on for you, or did the train come with them on, also awesome video.

Did the Q2 ever pull passenger trains? I don't think I've seen any pictures of one on a passenger train

What are all the cars you bought for a set? You show the ones you have then 2 more on order. So what are all of the cars you got?

2 things: The Pullman Green paint is fine the way it is, as it was hand mixed from black and yellow on hand, and there was a variance in the green shades on actual equipment, once it was used for a few years and repainting was due. WHAT is wrong with non-DCC sound? I think it is great! Personally, I spent my life putzing around with computers as a job, and am sick and tired of them, and never will have DCC on my layout! I HATE it! OK, train 3 approaching station, gotta brake, eeh, need to type in address of train 3 in controller, BUGGER wrong address, will not respond - CRASH. Tried it, HATE it, NO DCC decoders on my railway! Let's do analogue: Train on track 2, use power-pack 2, turn down throttle, slow down, turn off, train stopped - EASY! Works fine for layouts big enough to rob you of all space in the average real world bedroom, so DCC can go to hell!

Your layout looks terrific, great cinematography and yes, those carriages are beautiful. However I could never substantiate paying those prices. My layout is DC and for the most part used. I love watching these videos but find I can make my layout look nearly as good with sone lighting and camera work. Thanks for sharing

Hi Doc, it's been a while. I ust bought ne of these F59 PHI's. It is an Athearn ready to roll model DCC ready. Can you tell me what sound decoder you recommend or some options. I don't mind spending the money for a good one but I lack the skills to install it myself so I would have someone do that for me. Thanks buddy!

It's not Marklin 41773 & 41774. Both are DB Nachzug, this one is Intercity Night and are 41771 & 41773.

I have found a pair of channel locks work well to squeeze the gear on the wheels.

ihc mehanos are smooth runners, have several w/different wheel configs and just bought another pacific...dont see those colors very often..nice

Thanks for the great demo video ..Have many sound decoders but never a Digitrax . Looking to get one due to budget and unhappy with the MRC synthesized horns .The have many but all are retched along with other issues . Do you recall if the prime mover sounds give you the 8 notches ?

Excellent !! Glad I found this Video, I suspected I'd have to cut that metal strip, wasn't sure if it would stay intact. That's awesome, almost wrote if off to DC only pile. Was thinking about using a Digitrax SD167 Decoder, but the reviews are horrible on those. Thanks again - looks like the easiest decoder install yet. Nice work.

Menards is turning into an affordable Lionel alternative. That is part of the reason for the cheesy aspect of its buildings. HO is an afterthought. But O scale is reasonably priced even for cheesy. And when you want to say the build quality is cheep, compare it to woodland scenic built up and lit models. My lord the O scale stuff is cheeper. Menards is for fun. At a fun price. I just picked up their new Milwaukee road starter set, for half the price of a BMI steam engine on sale.

Thanks so much for the video, because I have a box of Life Like Proto 2000 engines that I got on sale at 40% discount (no returns). Mostly GP7's and GP9's. Little did I know it was because of the cracked gears issue; as I was just getting into the hobby, and ~ 66% of the engines had cracked gears. I'm going to try and replace the gears on at least 6 engines, and try and sell them. If all goes well, I'll do the rest and dump them also.

Just a sidr note those arent pushpull consists. The end cars have no cabs in them they are generator/bike cars they have no capability of controlling the locomotive from there

Did the engine come with the original sound or was that something you added? I have been all over the Internet looking for a DCC HO Tri Rail engine with sound. I have come up empty-handed. I have the bombardier coaches but just need the engine.

What software is that? The one that you use to configurate the locomotive?

I bought this loco about a year ago but just got around to getting a set of cars, green is proto but I went with Walthers two tone grey heavy weights. Green just looks liken army train to me. NYC didn't switch over to streamliners until 1938 so the heavy weights are the correct cars for the Commodore.
