Akira: The Gateway Film To Anime - An Anime Review
I'm 4 years late??? How did i miss this?? This anime was part of my childhood fr. I read the manga in 2021 and it was DARK(not in like a horror way obv)maybe darker than Kodocha. I didn't really think of bmha because i never coukd get past episode 4 💀.
Making a vid on this banger fire video btw
2000s anime got a bad rap for the moe stuff, but if you ignore that it was actually a pretty good decade for anime, especially before 2008
It was almost an good review except the last part... i dont think gender politics has to do anything with this !! kenichi was just protecting Tima because he thaught that she her memory and naive... and duke red was doing it because she was his daughter and rock was going to kill him !! if the thing you saying would be true, the Duke red would have chosed Tima let alone create her again in memory of her first place... 😒🙄
i love your raspy voice
٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶
Let's gooooo
Well i might be a male shovinistic pig who shuns most anime with a female mc but... i might make a exception for this one.
Saya is a hybrid. Kind of like Marvel’s ‘Blade’ character. Half human and half vampire.
P.S. I actually had my whole anime dvd collection stolen years ago, and last month, I bought the whole series on DVD again, and I'm rewatching it all over.
On a rainy night in the spring of 2003, I found Inuyasha along with Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Big-O, and Lupin The 3rd on Adultswim. I grew up in the 80s watching reruns of anime classics like Speed Racer, Battle of the Planets, and Voltron; discovering Inuyasha and the others reignited my love for anime that I still have.
great review!
Adaptations sucks
I like 2 dimensional curvy airheads.
I only watched the franchise just to get to zaku warrior
One of the animes that girl loves
One day... <3
Growing up, my cat’s name was Kilala 🥰
S1 manga style art is beautiful. 👑
When the OG Isekai is done right.
Wait, hold up. Puri-puri prisoner is an S class hero. He isn't a villain
I remember watching this anime with such love for the world. It was beautiful.... one of my all time favorites by far.
Same
Absolutely love this movie.
I've had this one on my list for literal decades and always put it off lol
This one my favorite non-Ghibli anime.
I am Japanese. Escaflowne is my favorite anime! I am very happy that you appreciate it in this way!
The thing about drifting is that some rwd can corner tight turns faster but 4wd cars with grip style are superior
I have have it on umd
This franchise from my childhood fr and I’m just now finding out blood + is a alternate universe smh I thought it was supposed to be a continuation of the movie
Will mankind detroy itself? Short answer: No. Long Answer: No.
Our company did the English subtitling for Cagliostro and I had a hard time finding out how Hayao's name was read. It was written with a single character 駿, normally read "Shun." I later discovered it was read "Hayao."
pleasant lil inu-yasha nostalgia vid , cute story about getting your sister to record an episode
I was obsessed with this during my elementary days (t'was probably yr 2004 or so when it was aired in the Philippines). I used to do all the house chores prior its airing on tv so that my mom wouldn't interrupt me. Back then there was no internet so if you miss one episode you don't have any opportunity to watch it again.
The struggle was real - No Pause! No Rewind! We had a similar issue around that time as well. There was an anime block that would air from 8pm to 10pm every Friday night, and I was obsessed with watching InuYasha. Luckily, we had a VCR, so my sister and I would rush to get the VHS tapes ready to record at exactly 7:59 so that we’d have enough space on the tape to record the whole thing. You had one shot, one opportunity, and it was brutal lol
Great video! I love Gundam Seed and really don't understand why it gets so much hate tbh.
Thanks! And same, it really doesn’t deserve the hate ┐( ̄ヘ ̄;)┌
Gorgeous, sweet, emotional. Soundtreck deserves attention on its own. Warning: may hurl you into existential crisis and need to read 'The sickness unto death'.
We completely agree. We didn’t have time to cover the soundtrack, but it is definitely a crucial part of the storytelling in Haibane Renmei.
Nice Review My Friend!
Thanks so much! We’re glad you enjoyed it (๑>◡<๑)
Yay! Always cool to see when Moribito gets the spotlight! It's truly an underapreciated anime. Also it was nice to see that the video focussed on the historical backgrounds Uehashi took inspirations from. Perfectly shows why the wordlbuilding is so strong in here. As well as Kamiyama understanding of how to adapt a story and add to it to make it even better.
Thanks so much! Moribito is definitely a masterclass on how to give a world depth. To be honest, we never intended for so many of our videos to focus so heavily on the history behind the stories, but thankfully people seem to really like it ヽ(o^▽^o)ノ and we definitely enjoy researching the topics so win-win lol
good video i remember watching this on adult swim back in the day
Holy, sandman spotted
Thanks! We appreciate it (๑>◡<๑)
Good video but the music in the background is a bit to loud
( ಥ ʖ̫ ಥ) If only you knew the level of chaos this comment caused at the Lazy Lion HQ lol There is a constant battle between the team whenever it comes to the background music and how loud it should be. You have made one team member feel completely vindicated and the other totally desolate (¬_¬ )ヾ(>ᗜ< )

I love how bad the CG was on the fish in the office LOL But jokes aside it is a visual spectacle.
Haha - That’s WILD! I specifically remember being so impressed by that huge fish swimming across the office window XD I also thought that the fact that the DVD case came with a little mini DVD disc instead of a regular-sized one was beyond cool. (૭ 。•̀ ᵕ •́。 )૭
Incidentally, this show is best watched by teens and older. No sex or violence, mind, it's just that little kids lack the life experience to make much sense of it. Have them watch, I swear, Sugar: A Little Snow Fairy, which hits some of the same notes but in a perhaps more approachable way. You probably want to watch it with them to talk about it.
The first time I saw it, I was an elementary school student. I, too, was drawn to the angels on the front covers. My older sister wasn’t as enthralled with the series as I was, feeling that it was too depressing, but I don’t know, I liked it and requested multiple times that we rent it again. I will admit that there were some nuances and references that I missed while watching it as a child. Things that I only picked up on years later, but even as a child I found the characters relatable. Being diagnosed with a major depression disorder not too long after, this later made sense to me. So, even though I wouldn’t say it's a series for kids, I definitely found comfort in it while watching it as a child.
I must emphasize the music for the show. Not just the OP and ED, both of which are beautiful, but the soundtrack throughout. Only Cowboy Bebop matches in quality, though the style is quite different.
The man reasponsible for music is the same who made music for 'Shadow of the colossus
I didn't rent my first copies of HR, i downloaded fansubs on my office internet connection via a standalone torrent client. The Web was as yet barely a thing. It's still one of my favorite stories in any medium. I don't even recommend it as intro to anime generally, because there's simply not much else like it. If you are watching it for the first time, avoid looking for reviews. One of its great beauties is the way it unfolds its secrets; I am not usually spoiler sensitive, but this show is an exception. Watch it as cold as you can. All I had to go on was a picture of an angel, dressed in brown, sitting outside and smoking a cigarette. That was enough. Once you've finished it, watch it again. As I always say, things you didn't even see the first time will now glow with meaning and emotion. Good job Lazy Lion for this largely spoiler free review. I also recommend the review by Beyond Ghibli.
Thank you. We would also recommend going into it as spoiler-free as possible. Treat this less as watching a series and more as having an experience. An experience, that once you’re through it, will give you some better insight about yourself. Everyone will have their own interpretations or feelings or thoughts about the series/journey and that’s ultimately what the creator envisioned.
Late to the party. I love how he is also an awkward 15-year-old and gets in a fight with Kagome when he is trying to be nice.
The clumsy interactions are honestly one of the best parts you’re right! And when it comes to Inuyasha, it’s better late than never (。•̀ᴗ-)✧
@@lazylion.productions 😉
Inuyasha’s osts were absolutely magical
Kaoru Wada did an excellent job! And the OPs and EDs were like you said magical ~ "Dearest" and "Still Alone" by Ayumi Hamasaki or "Deep Forest" by Do As Infinity or "Every Heart" by BoA or "My Will" by Dream… I mean we could go on and on, we love them all! ♡\( ̄▽ ̄)/♡
To this day I can sit and watch this movie over and over and keep it on all day
Well, it is a Gothic Feast for the Eyes ~ (。•̀ᴗ-)✧ wink wink Sorry, we couldn’t pass up the shameless plug <(_ _)>
I definitely try to watch Tokyo Godfathers during the Christmas season, along with one of my daughters who also loves it. Satoshi Kon is so sorely missed because he made such great movies (and Paranoia Agent). Cheers!
What a lovely holiday tradition to share with your daughter (๑>◡<๑). And we definitely share that sentiment, Satoshi Kon was a visionary. We’ve seen most of his work, we’re just missing the series Paranoia Agent and the Perfect Blue film, which we know are arguably his best works, but the dark subject matter has us dragging our feet a bit lol They’re definitely on our watchlist though!
I bought the individual volume DVDs as they were released monthly here in Australia, issue 1 came with a slipcover to contain the whole series so I had an incentive to buy them all. Why was I prompted to buy them? The store I bought them from (JB HiFi) had a cardboard cutout/poster of Rakka, so I can say the advertising definitely worked. I do wish that I asked for the poster, but didn't. They were released here by Madman, who are still going (same with JB) and have expanded from anime to other films. They did the same for Last Exile and other series. I've never regretted buying Haibane Renmai and see it as a spiritual journey, a very good one with many different pathways. Terrific show.
Some people will never know the struggle of getting ahold of anime back in the day XD Most of the time, all you had was the cover to go by, so you literally had to judge the whole series/film by that alone. Sometimes the gamble paid off, and sometimes it didn’t lol Like you said though, Haibane Renmei is definitely one that’s worth it! I only wish I had been able to get my hands on a copy for my own collection (╥﹏╥)
