Ya know, I've never really thought about it until now but Bloodlust actually subverts the vampire kidnaps woman trope by revealing that Meier Link didn't actually kidnap her, he just came to pick her up since she wanted to go with him.

You’re absolutely right - they basically just decided to run away together. For them, escaping to the City of the Night is probably like the equivalent of running off to Gretna Green in the middle of the night to elope.

Loved how the anime cut to the chase for everything, especially d's lack of dialogues, and when he does, the anime perfectly captures the personality of a long lived vampire in this line of work

Ya the film had great pacing, as well as top-tier worldbuilding and character designs! Despite all that though, D’s the real draw, well for us anyways ( ̄▽ ̄*)ゞ It really wouldn’t be Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust without him, and not just for the obvious reason that his name is in the title lol

One of my favorite pieces of art/media ever. Not just "anime".

XD Lefty had some of the best lines in the film. What a sassy hand ~

Vampire hunter D is a masterpiece.

Bloodlust? or the 1985 version? Cause one is a masterpiece, and the other is not lol

    The visuals are fantastic.
Also I love how your reviews include a history lesson, I definitely would’ve done better in History classes had they been taught more like this.

Thanks! This is such a nice compliment and super encouraging :) We weren’t sure if people would find the history aspect of our videos interesting. But in the process of researching the videos, we always come across so much information as to what influenced the creators, and we figured we couldn’t be the only ones out there who found it fascinating lol So we’re glad you’re liking the anime/history videos! :D

One of my favorites. The artstyle is beautiful and makes the movie more than anything else. You don't get that charm with moden anime styles

Great video, this movie deserves more presence in animation subculture.
Just a little correction: Lilith is not a biblical character, she belongs to Jewish folklore and tales.

Whooo random. Just watched this again today, great review once again!
    Edit:
Also D is possibly the son of the of the vampire king.

That’s awesome :D And yep, you’re totally right. In the Bloodlust film, Camilla definitely drops hints that D is the Vampire King’s son or that they at least have a connection. In the books, this is also hinted at further. As well as the fact that the Vampire King which they refer to as the Sacred Ancestor is actually Dracula, and that D’s mother was potentially Mina.

You spoke about byronic hero. In Byron's poem Giaour (1813) is depicted curse of vampirism.

Funnily enough, this information was in our original draft, as was Polidori’s The Vampyre (1819), which was based on a piece that Byron wrote in 1816, but it ended up getting cut because our video was getting too long lol Thanks for mentioning it though, hopefully, someone will see your comment and become curious about checking it out ٩(⁀ᗢ⁀)۶
I always loved the fact that Byron wrote what became the inspiration for The Vampyre while on a getaway, as part of a friendly literary competition between friends, one of which was Mary Shelley, and that that was when she penned her first draft of Frankenstein. Pretty crazy.

Great take, and the original V H D from 1985 is not to be missed if you liked Bloodlust, establishes the character etc etc, terrific...as to why V H D wants to end M even though Charlotte went willingly? my take upon first viewing is to avoid another "half breed" like him being brought to suffer in the world as he has....and in the 1985 original D is termed a vamphir or such, vs damphir in 'Lust.
