Print with me! 10 minutes of letterpress printing ASMR (greeting card collab)
At long last, welcome to a new printing video! Enjoy a short and sweet 10 minute video featuring the nice clinks and clanks of my 1899 printing press.
On a warm day in March, I printed these greeting cards as part of a collaboration with German illustrator Zamavi Prints. Her lovely crocus flower illustration is the highlight of this new thank you card design.
Expressing gratitude is so important and I would like to thank you for subscribing and supporting my channel despite my absence. And thanks again to Zainab for the collab! You can find more of her paintings, illustration and calligraphy at: zamaviprints
If you have someone you would like to thank, a handful of these cards are for sale in my online shop: www.poppypressstudio.com/store/p/thankyou-card-floral
More printing to come!

Just love the Arab platen! Such a brilliant press, no electricity required, just some smart foot work. Can print, emboss, cut and crease and I believe there is a foil-blocking conversion available? - Just love that machine!
Omg, love this, my first job out of high school over 60 years ago was running a 10x15Heidelberg Windmill Letterpress, thank you for shareing.
so glad you enjoyed it! ☺
So cool!!!!❤
thank you!!
I just applied for a garden center job but I have some knowledge of houseplants. I starting to get into plants.
I'm 74 and starting work tomorrow in the Home Depot Garden Center.
Oh my you’re watering the plants wrong!
I had the immense pleasure of working a press like this whilst on a wonderful course. Just a complete thrill when you manage to match the machine's timing and that sound. Heaven! ❤
It's the best feeling in the world when the printing goes smoothly 💛💛
Awesome work!
Thanks a lot! ☺
Great print. I would say treadle slower, fan out the card stock to make pick up easier and more consistent, try to pick up at the same time as take off the platen so you keep the impression on all the time. Will make the run much quicker and more consistent ink coverage. Lovely to see these old machines trundling along. Some people like to use a “ rubber thimble” to pull off the paper from the platen easier and more consistent. Getting the rhythm in hand feeding takes some practice. I’ve hand fed everything from platens to folding machines and a lot more. You really don’t need to check each print - once you have inked up and have your impression make ready set you should aim for impression on 👍 Love the cards and design + colour👍
Thank you Jonathan! So far I've only been able to leave the impression lever engaged while printing once, I need to keep practicing! I like to skip feed especially when the form is large for better ink distribution. Might need to invest in one of those thimbles, I drop my sheets far too often 😁
@@poppypressstudio You’re doing a great job. Just continue as you want to and enjoy it 👍
Can't quite believe it but was fascinated all the way through. What does pulling the handle actually do? It sounds like something strikes the plate.
That's the impression lever! Pulling it allows the paper to touch the printing plate 😉
Awesome work!
thanks! 💛💛
Tap the ink on the roller itself! Will ink up faster...
Oh interesting! I've seen that on a Vandercook but never a platen press. I'll have to give it a try!

This is my current job and I love it so much ❤ I don't care what others think I'm Happy 😁 great vibes and video sweetheart 😊
I came to similar conclusions that working in a garden centre would be good for me after going through burnout. The difference is that I have a lot of the knowledge already but don't seem to be abke to get hired, which is really frustrating. Glad you had better luck. Great video.
Quoins should be at top of forme, fixed furniture at foot (to match fixed bottom lay). Also, quoins are back to front - the inner wedges should point towards the fixed sides of the forme.
Thanks for sharing! ☺
Seu trabalho é absolutamente belo... há uma diferença colossal em fazer com amor o que para alguém é especial. Sucesso!!!!❤
Thank you so much!! 💛
Beautiful skill
Thank you! ☺
I loved watching your video! I was just like you back in when I went from a retail music job in the mall and worked at a nursery just up the hill from where I lived. I had no knowledge of plants and I had to research all the books as there was no Google but I loved learning everything and I especially loved the annual department where I spent a lot of time learning and caring for them. We had the greatest staff and it was an independent longstanding nursery with so many great people, I began to study computers in school at the same time and started making printed list for them of the potting soils and all the flowers with the prices so they didn't have to go searching it was already on the counters for them. I still dream about that job and wish I could go back, one of the best jobs I ever had!

I keep looking for videos on working at garden centers and i was really hoping this was the one. Almost got there! You mentioned coming home covered in dirt, disheveled, etc. THIS is what the people need to see. Show us being the super heroes that we are!! 💪

Four generations of printing! That's beautiful 💛 I wonder if my son will be interested in it too someday?
The "I don't know why this is working but it is" is a common refrain in production, in my experience :) Printers demand chaos and if they don't get it they will create it.
Ah! You're more advanced in printing than I realized. Catching up with videos. Pardon the dust of this comment, if you please. Happy printing!
"Printers demand chaos and if they don't get it they will create it" -- I love this, it's so true!
The sheet of paper behind the form allowed the plate to be inked better as well as increase impression
Would you consider uploading the audio file to Apple Music? I'd love to play this on repeat in the studio as background noise. Thank you.
I'm afraid you'll just have to watch the video on repeat for now 💛☺️
You shouldn't wear rings.
PoppyPressStudio Those cards look terrible! You put far too much impression on the cards. It looks like you're embossing! A customer would not pay for those...
Mary, wonderful video. I worked in offset printing for over 40 years. Ink and paper were my life. At times it was a struggle and others it was a gift. One needs both. You never learn without the struggles. Learning is one of the fun aspects of printing. I loved mixing ink and matching color, and blending cmyk on press. And till the day I retired 2 years ago, I never stopped learning. To me one masters his or her trade when one learns to love it.
Wise words! You're right some days are a struggle and other days I feel invincible on press 😁 Thank you so much for watching and enjoy being retired!
Not sure why you move your press so fast. Those guys in Sacramento museum use to move it more slowly like half as much, but they can print continuously and just put paper in and out each turn so it looks more efficient and less difficult.
Must have had too much caffeine that day I guess 🤷🏼♀️ I prefer to skip feed anyway for better ink distribution on the rollers
@@poppypressstudio It must need a lot of experience to know how much ink you put on and the pressures needed (set packings) to have a nice print, is it?
It does take experience and I'm definitely still learning! That's partly why I'm making these videos, to look back and see how my printing evolves and (hopefully) improves in time ☺
@@attilakiss8585You'd be surprised how easy these machines are to operate. You need to be coordinated which is a must.
Looks awesome! I love the machine. Hi from Sud of France!!
thanks for being here Sud! 💛
How ever….. the WHOLE PROCESS IS NOT EASY, as any can see….. she has to PRINT 500! Wonder how old THIS machine is?
My printing press was made in 1899!
Can I use that machine to press my trousers and crack open nuts?
Hello, It's rare to see a pedal printing machine and much rarer to see someone working today. I have operated several printing machines but today I am a guillotine operator. I really enjoyed seeing your work. Do Brazil.👍🏻
There's something special about making modern prints with old machinery! Thanks for watching!
Great job..I fell in love with printing in Jr High School and High school with this type of printing way back in the 70s..Graphic Art's Class was my favorite throughout my school years. And right out of High School I found a job as Flexographic pressman and continued my love for printing. Please keep up the great content in your videos. Oh I also noticed the candles under the ink pan to help warm up the ink so it can transfer better..at least that's what I'm thinking. Maybe you just like the smell of those candles better the ink itself? Lol
You're right! The candles are to keep the ink disc warm. Thanks for the kind words, hoping to make more printing videos soon! 😊
Ne wfound asmr trigger thankyou!
enjoy 😁
Amo tu trabajo. Estoy a punto de comprarme una maquina de esas. La encontré en estado de abandono. I love your job. I'm about to buy one of those machines. I found it in a state of abandonment
I hope you can restore it to its former glory. Best of luck with it!
