@@Dana_Black thank you 😁
Did that a few years back, except adjustable drag link upgrade, which comes next. Thanks!
I have the same setup on our Victoria. It’s a nice upgrade.
My family made a trip up to Oakland in either '65 or '66 to visit my Dad's best friend's family. We all had a ball. On one of those trips we went to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk and all I could remember was going into the big building. They had this big slide for us kids and my mind went blank on those slides. It was like a piece of me was captured and never left Santa Cruz. I lived there for four years during my late 40s and early 50s, but for some reason, a piece of me is still there and that Boardwalk had something to do with it.
All the cotter pins on a Model A will drive a Baptist to drink.
You missed it! The rod bearing is not wide enough and has no side Thrust surface ! The rod s are grinding the crankshaft!
U see how clean it was.
I think I would turn it over and inspect the bearings before I tore it all down. You can tell a lot about general condition. Also if all looks ok you can snug up your bearings if there are sufficient shims to do so. Good luck! Looks like a well done engine from appearances.
@@rnwagner thanks for watching and commenting! There are a few other videos in the playlist that show most of the teardown. Spoiler alert, it was the #3 piston 🙃. Just got the block back from the machine shop and hope to start reassembly soon.
Why would you want to remove the dipper tray?
@@rubatoguy to clean out any sludge / debris when starting up an old motor or replacing the pan gasket… or in my case, to clean out metal shavings 😅 thanks for watching and commenting!
Good to hear John Denver again 😌
Cool video
I'm gonna be able to do this soon ,putting a 1929 fordor on road😊😊😊
@@johnneedy3164 awesome! It’s so much fun hitting the road with a group.
I hope these beautiful cars have bullet proof glass .
😱😱😱
How did the scuffed piston debris make its way to the valve spring area. I haven't seen a pathway from the videos. The debris from the spring area looked to be cast iron swarf from machine mark done and not cleaned out properly. Oil pump and main bearings should have been wiped out from that amount of metal going thru them, rod bearings would have picked some also thru the oil scoops
I found the same debris on the bottom of the pan and oil pump screen. I believe it got pumped into the valve chamber and settled where it did due to the design of the valve chamber floor. Bearings all looked good, thanks to it not being a full pressure engine. Thanks for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it!
Back in the sixties a few friends and myself would hitch hike to Santa Cruz , with sleeping bags and a sack of canned food. We would sleep at National bridges park , body surf for two days. Go into Santa Cruz and the boardwalk. Waking early being in the morning ocean water.
Sounds like a great time. Thanks for watching!
what kind of 4 speed tranny does it have?
It’s from an 83-85 F150. 1-3 are close to stock with 4 being an overdrive.
When leaving car shows you're supposed to light'em up, fishtail, and hit oncoming traffic. Oh well, maybe next year!
I took videos of the cars driving through Boulder Creek that morning and also down at the railroad crossing on Hwy 9 in Felton.
Can't hardly wait to get mine on road ,have a1929 fordor😊😊
@@johnneedy3164 it’s such a great feeling getting one on the road. Bonus points for on the road with friends 😁

Just a note: 600w oil is not really 600 weight. Viscosity-wise it equates to about 250.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I like Running the GL1500 from Mikes A Fordable. It's very thick and makes it easier (for me) to downshift.

why did that happen to it, what went wrong?
Waiting to hear from the machine shop, but my guess is not enough piston to cylinder clearance when originally rebuilt. I have no idea how long it had been like that, but as long as I’ve had the car it never made any noises, etc.
To do it correctly they should be backed off an eighth of a turn before tightening.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I’ve read pros/cons of doing it both ways. This is the way I was taught and up until now ( knock on wood) have not had any head gasket issues.
H&H engine
@@michaellong6052 indeed!
At the 3:16 mark you can see in the 60's how much more beautiful the historic Charles Looff carousel was. It had the nice mirrored panels on the inside of the riding platform that hid the center pole and motor. Also the riding platform was a nice wood vaneer finish instead of the ugly greenish/blue finish it has currently!!! 👍🎠
Lived on E.Cliff drive across the Pajaro River from boardwalk...1960...was a retirement community 'till UC came in '69...what memories. thanks.
Wow. So you’ve never been to Santa Cruz? Pajaro river is in Watsonville anyone from Santa Cruz would NEVER confuse the San Lorenzo river for a river 20 miles away. 😂 nice try.
wow! easy peezy, Thanks😄
@@sunnyormsby8402 glad you liked it!
I will forever be grateful this video exists
Looks like someone welded chunks of metal to the rod faces in order to take up the side play resulting from the babbitt-to-insert conversion. I've never seen or heard anything alike - probably for a good reason.
Yeah, this is an early conversion and sadly the inserts are no longer available except for the standard size. Luckily the ones in these are in good shape.
@@edselsadventures Well, you probably found out by now, but if I had to guess, this could also be where all the metal shavings came from. I'd have a good look at the welded pieces on the rod caps and see if their surface is scored in any way to make sure this isn't the case.
Next Saturday’s video is the big reveal. Spoiler alert, the block is currently at a machine shop getting bored out 🥴
Yep if that motor ain't stock it will do that all the time cause the radiator ain't big enough. I had that problem till I put a thicker radiator in it thin no more problems.
I always wanted to ride those swinging cages but they were gone by the time I was big enough. I did come back as a ride operator in the 70's and I worked the ferris wheel. By myself; I didn't have a ticket taker helping. You had to hold on to the chair in case it slipped when people were getting off, you didn't want them thrown onto their faces, and it did happen. I loved the gas powered cars, you got to run and jump on the moving cars to throw on the brake and pull back on the gas. I also drove the cave train. Last year I rode the Giant Dipper roller coaster (for the last time, ouch). And, I threw 3 rings in a row into the clown's mouth on the merry go round! That was also a nice ride to work on, if you didn't mind the constant music. I also miss the fireworks on the 4th of July.
Lots of great memories of the boardwalk. Thank you so much for sharing!
This is not a model A .It is a Model B. It has a oil pump and counter weights. Model A has no oil pump oil or counter weights.
Thanks for watching & commenting! It certainly is a Model A engine. The counterweights are welded on by the previous rebuilder (H&H). This is a common modification on touring engines. Model A's all had oil pumps. The pump transfers oil from the pan up to the valve galley which then feeds the cam and mains via gravity. The rods and rest of crank are oiled by a mist created when the rods sweep through the dipper tray that is snapped in to the oil pan.
Model B also has a fuel pump.
The equipment (rides) didn’t malfunction back in those days
And it didn’t cost a family of four 1/2 a week’s pay.
Nice job. Looking forward to see if you are gonna rebuild the motor or install a Burtz block and use a high compression head.
Thanks! No spoilers , but there is quite a discovery coming in the next video. 😅 I have a Burtz in our Vicky and absolutely love it. I’m honestly not sure which way I’ll go with this one.
That's one of the best views!
The original suv, no paved roads needed...

Love seeing the black license plates with yellow.
Still have the same plate on out Station Wagon 👍
Great ride! Did anyone have mechanical issues? I didn't see a rescue vehicle in the pack.
Not that I’m aware of for the Lowland portion of the tour. The Speedsters had a couple of break downs, but nothing major.
Great engine sounds! Looks like a fun event. 👍👍👏👏
100% agree!
I only see whites. What year were people of color allowed to go to the Santa Cruz Beach boardwalk?
Nobody getting shot, nobody getting robbed. I bet they also parked their cars with the windows rolled down too. I was a small kid in elementary school in the early 60s and remember these times well.
A simpler time indeed!
Thanks for uploading! It's great seeing the things that aren't at the Boardwalk anymore.
Thanks! I also like seeing the things that still are there!
i really miss the 1960s with my family. once a month we would go to the san francisco zoo then go to the exploritorium in golden gate park, and visit fishermans wharf. those were the good old days. and at least once or twice a year we would go to santa cruz beach boardwalk, it was a little further away. 🏖 🎡 🎠 🪁
