About the red sky during the night : you are in the north. Depending on the season you also can get polar lights there. It's really beautiful and I love the winter there but it's harder cause you can't farm the whole year like in the near of the equator. And about the entertainment factor : watching you trying to survive under this hard conditions is really entertaining 😁you don't have to be a comedian. Just do your thing😊😘🤗
Today competition of dieing . Nice :D
That lightning stuck was hillarious. I think it's better to not to go to Casino )))
Use Shift+H on mushroom to check if it ediable or not
OK, Death list: Hunger: check Drifters: check Goats: check Lightning : check, incredible effort btw😅😂 Bad mushroom : check Fox: check😅😂
😂😂😂Congratulations 🎉now you are officially a member of the "I died cause I ate a bad mushroom" club 🎉🎉😂that happens to the best, so don't worry 😂it's just unfortunate in your actual situation but at least you learned a very valuable lesson 😅my poor little caveman 😅😘🤗... Edit... Uhm... I know that there is a chance to get hit by lightning but... Uhm... You really want to get the medal for the most different deaths in VS in the shortest time, do you?! 😂Unbelievable 😅
The only thing you can do is to customize your settings for the world 😅but therefore you need to start a new world 😅cause with these default settings you will always have this problem when you die. I wonder how many times you need to die until you spawn close to your cave again 🤔can someone do the math for me? 😂
My goodness mate. This is not your day is it? Killed by a goat! I feel your pain. I think one of my first times dying in this game I was killed by a ram
As a general rule, if you are short on food, just stand still. That's the lowest food burn rate currently in the game. Less than sitting or even sleeping.
Mate, I am about 5 minutes into your video. That has got to be the tinyest most tiny farm I have ever seen. Haven't you heard? Winter is coming:-)
With temporal storms you must blockout yourself completle, because drifters can spawn on any block where is not you stand. So you basicaly make 1x1x2 shelter and stay there. Or you have a very good chance to survive just by non stop running on large open fields - but if they respawn right near you - you will be as good as dead, so with limited lifes its better to shelter yourself
Exactly, you can not fight them head on without the best armour! But you can leave one side open of that safe room, and dig a big hole in front of it (3 blocks deep), they can't climb walls (nor fences), and you can kill them with a spear. They will throw rocks at you though, so get a shield to cover yourself from it! (don't want to spoil anything, but the hole works for wolves, too)
😱😱I knew this would happen 😱😱was just a question of time 😢like wiseman said, without a map you have nearly no chance to find back home😢so you can either start new there or you start a new game completely. Then you can make some customizations. Cause your time for winter preparations is already pretty short 🤔gosh, this is like a thriller!! I am so curious what you are doing next 😍😍
You get always 2 warnings in the chat before a temporal storm comes. The first says "... is approaching", then you have 8 hours or something like that and then comes the second message :"... Is imminent". Then you just have a few minutes left before it starts😊😘
Oh my... If you remember the respawn radius was set to 5000 blocks. Means the cave could be 5000 blocks away, and without a map there is no way to find out in which direction...
@wisemantellsyousomething1134 Precisely. Now it's time to move forward and make something better 🤣
@@RudometkinYT Ha ha, you like all the trees around your new position, right? :D (btw, you could have planted the birch seeds you found in the bushes all along)
@@RudometkinYT Forget what I said, I just saw you got killed again... EDIT: ...and killed again, now back to trees...
And : it's always fun to see you making fire always with the Firestarter 😂hint: the game gave you torches, my little young caveman 😉😁😘
@@Mondhase2000 🤣 I am starting to realize it's much quicker to hold lit torches on me to use as a lighter
Cause I guess you overread it: the guide told you something about preservation and different storage containers 😉check out what you can do with clay again 😉I just say: the game try to be as much realistic as it can be and is useful for a game. Always keep that in mind cause that will give you ideas of what you can do 😊
In default wilderness, storms only happen every 5-10 days. But you still want to keep track of rift activity ("C"). If it is calm, as long as you stay out of caves, you only have to worry about wildlife. So, yeah, it goes through food a little faster, but torch in offhand will let you do something productive at night, definitely on "Calm", and, judging from your skills, I'd guess at least up through "Medium".
Nice to see that you were able to fix your major lag issues! Btw, nice little detail: If you pick something up (that includes panning), the backpack slot the block or item is added to, will vibrate, so you always know if you got something or not. You can also have the inventory opened while panning.
Since the lag got way better when you went SSD, you were evidently bottlenecked because of disk swapping. Obviously you need to have OBS or whatever running, but you don't have a dozen tabs in a browser open, do you? Even with a great machine, that can cause some real problems.
@Roger-1j4 I definitely had many browser tabs open earlier in the series. I'm not sure if I did during this episode. Since I've been experiencing the lag to this extent though, I close all browser tabs when recording now. For this series, I'm recording with Bandicam. I think Fraps had issues recording this game for some reason. As you know, the lag did largely go away once I went to SSD. But, do you know why it starts to come back after about an hour and a half into recording? I have 32gb of ram, and tomorrow I'm adding another 32gb to total at 64. This will also help with video processing times.
@@RudometkinYT the game is very intense in saving everything😅. Means it fills up every ram in no time 😅. Even when you play it with a server you have to restart the game after a few hours and the server needs a lot of ram 😅and I guess that you record it while playing doesn't make it better 😅maybe the new ram you put in will make it better, at least for a while 😊👍if that still doesn't help, try a new test world with a smaller map to check out which size works smooth 😊and btw : I always have to bite me on my tongue cause I want to give you sooo many game tips but on the other hand I don't want to destroy your first experiences with the game 😱I always think, I have to write you a hint cause you won't survive the winter, but then I think, maybe he will find a way on its own 🤔so stressful 😱😅but I really love to watch it 😊😘🤗
hey o/ Without the water the plants will not grow. Why you don´t make a farmland just next the water at near pond?
I wasn't sure if it was necessary to make it near water, but that does make sense. I wasn't sure how close to the water it had to be in order to benefit from it. If I made a farm near the water, how many blocks would benefit from the water? I was thinking if only like 4 blocks into the mainland, then it seemed not worth it to me at the time. In hindsight it does make sense to put the farm near the water 😂 I was just thinking of using a watering can.
@@RudometkinYT righ next to water - 75% moisture, 2bl - 50%, 3bl - 25%, 4+ nothing. You always can use water can of course, but it´s easier to put farmland right next to water block
Oh and a hint, because it's not anywhere in the survival guide: you can build a clay oven ( with fireclay) where you can dry the berries in! It's an awesome way for preserving the berries cause they last much much longer this way. But you can fire the oven only with firewood. But it's really worth it. 😊
Hi😊to make you feel a little less scared during the day when rift activity is high: as long as you don't want to make cave tours, everything is fine 😊
This lag is very bizarre. I run VS on a PC (short for potato computer) and I don't experience these problems. Do they disappear if you switch to the Absolute Minimum or Pathetic quality presets? Did you see the "Potential fix for stuttering (Nvidia cards)" thread in the forum?
@Brady_The I think the lag spikes remained even on more basic settings. They largely disappeared when I reinstalled VS to my solid state drive and picked a better Vsync setting. I think I saw that thread you posted in, and I am eager to try more from it. After about an hour and a half into the next session I was recording, they seemed to start coming back a bit. Maybe a ram issue?
Hi o/ nice to see you thrive well. Yes that was brown coal. And the lagging. well how about your RAM? Because for VS 8GB is playable bare minimum (player client crashes connecting to my moded servers with that amount ), 16GB is so so and 32GB+ is best for playing VS.
For RAM I have 32gb. I'm about to upgrade to 48 or 64. I did recently fix much of the lag by finding the right vsync setting and reinstalling the game on my solid state drive. If you have any other tips, I'd love to hear them.
@@RudometkinYT 32gigs is neaught. Try to go with chunk upload rate limiter to 4. And look what´s the bitrate you recording the vid.
Try setting a block at the same level as the top block of the door. Open the door and only the crawlers can get beyond your block. The others will be stuck in the doorway. Design an entrance that does not allow drifters to escape and you can kill them all.
Cooked meals don't say how long they are fresh for immediately as they do not expire when they are still hot. Once it cools, then it will say! :) Also unless you are playing as a Tailor or have class exclusive recipes turned off, you cannot craft sewing kits. It says "requires clothier trait" under the recipe in the handbook, indicating this. Note that sewing kits are not essential for repairing clothing - you can use normal linen/cloth instead.
You can't pan muddy gravel. You don't sift what you stand on, so *standing on* muddy gravel that's under the water is just fine. You sift what you *click on* with the pan. Don't try to click on a block of muddy gravel; you can't sift that. Also, the maximum size the game recognizes as "inside" for the purposes of temperature, weather, and creature spawning is a 7x7x7 block volume. You *can have* multiple 7x7x7 volume spaces and have them all count as "inside," but you must separate the rooms with solid doors.
You can make the gamboised armour with normal linen. If a recipe allows the mixing of multiple different materials of the same kind (see chest for a more obvious example) it'll switch through all possible combination patterns. When you hover over a recipe the ingredients rotation stops. That's why you were shown the two different kinds of stitching.
you dont need to break the pots to pick them up, you can right click, or Shift right click. one of the two
Something you should know about cattails : they don't respawn when you harvest them completely with the roots. But you can place the roots in water or on normal ground to grow them closer to your home. I would eat the roots only in a real emergency 😊and about cooking: check out the temperatures! Firewood, peat and other stuff has different burning temperatures. For cooking you don't need that high temperatures. It takes a while until the temperature is dropped too low for cooking. So you need less fuel than you expect. 😊
Cattails respawn, don't worry! I was in dire need of food in winter, so I had to take all of them from the whole map, and next year they slowly came back.
@@wisemantellsyousomething1134oh, really?! Then they changed it. Good to know 😊👍thx😘
Reread the panning section a bit more carefully. It does not say what you think it says. Nicely done! Bringing back memories of my first few worlds, but you are picking it up a whole lot faster than I did.
Cabbage seeds is indeed a huge find. They are the best vegetable. A copper pickaxe is one lucky drop! At 17:33 you could have notice some flax. It's situated to the upper left of your cursor. (Just stack the raw red meat already. 😅With those two pieces of meat you could have had a nice meal btw.) Another tip for inventory management: You can always drop your stone tools. There's always more stone. (I usually lean them against a block, though, because I can't waste anything and I might "need them later".🤦♂)
I didn't realize I could make a meal with just 2 raw meat! I got stuck thinking I would need atleast 4! This is huge. And yes, I should have grabbed that flax there and am terrible with holding onto too many things 😅
A neat little trick to acquire the cardinal directions is, by looking at the movement of clouds, smoke particles and the like (and the sun of course). The wind in Vintage Story always blows West to East. Another nice way is to place down a rock to knap. The tool head will always point West. I generally use the spear head, because it has such a nice arrow shape. 9:09 The handbook description is not entirely true here. You can use bowls (and jugs for that matter) to scoop up water and place it in a cooking pot as well.
Tool racks can hold up to four tools, by the way. The top and bottom rows can hold two each! :)
You don't pan the blocks you *stand on* in the water. You pan the blocks you *click on with the pan* , while standing in the water. Read the instructions, again. The worst mistake new players make is to try to move up the tech tree too quickly. This game wholly integrates the concepts found in Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. You'll do well to live by them. 😉
You're carrying around too much stuff, very little of which you can immediately use. Make another reed chest and leave some of that clutter in your base. If most of your character's inventory slots are *not empty* when you leave your base, you're doing it wrong. Also, since you have *so much* clay nearby, consider a storage vessel or three. Finally, as an FYI, the more cattail roots you eat immediately, the fewer cattails you have available to craft with, forever. Once the cattail roots are destroyed (eaten, whatever) *they do not grow back* . 🤨
Most of your post is absolutely correct, but the cattails respawn after a while!
@@wisemantellsyousomething1134 In what way do the cattails respawn? Are they like mushrooms where they just pop up in certain areas?
@@RudometkinYT Hm, good question... In some places I have them barely, while other areas seem to get full of them... I have to do some experimenting.
Oh no!! I already reached your actual episode! 😱I was binching it😅really love it and I like your progress 😊👍btw. You don't need to "destroy" your cooking pot or your bowls every time you want to pick them up 😅😂try to pick them up with your bare hands like you do in real life too😉
Gosh, you got so lucky that not a single drifter spawned in your cave!! 😱I nearly got a heartattack cause it could have happened at any time during the storm 😱😱
@@Mondhase2000 oh shoot, well now I'm scared of future temporal storms 😅
Btw : for your next gameplay, you can make your world smaller. It's a million blocks in square by default. I can't play it on this size without heavy lag spikes either but on a smaller map it's running pretty smooth. And my pc is pretty old😅you also can reduce the game height. The game doesn't recommend it cause you could miss some content ( some plants just grow in high mountains) and some mountains can look a little cut off but it helps with the performance and mountains are a little easier to travel. And the landscape generator still does a good job on it. 😊And you also got lucky with all the mushrooms cause those respawn so quickly. They are an awesome food source, especially for the start 😊👍
The world size should not make any difference, @Mondchase2000. It only generates blocks as you explore. At a guess, you are exploring far enough to run your hard drive non-stop. Make sure you don't have your browser open if you run into it. Once you run out of cache, you can end up with seconds or even minutes of lag!
Ideally you want to pick up the surface copper bits (and mark their locations), because those are a prerequisite for a copper pickaxe.
@Brady_The You are right. I suppose I felt so far away from the copper age, I didn't even feel it was appropriate to collect yet. But recently, as you might soon see, I had an inspiration to take a daring step forward in my progression (Daring for me, atleast! 🤣) in ep 15 (where I'm currently at)
No. Never pick up the copper nuggets until you have everything you need to smelt them. They can stay on the ground forever. Nothing will touch them in a single-player game, and *until* you can smelt them, they just clutter up your inventory with items you can't use. Leave them until you can actually use them.
@@thomashiggins9320 Agree to disagree. Depending on the region one settled, copper bits can be few and far between. Finding 40 pieces can take hours, especially for a new player who doesn't has developed a game sense yet. Rudometkin additionally plays without map and coordinates, at worst he had to spend a lot of time to discover the bits, and spend another lot of time to rediscover the bits after he burned all the necessary clay items. Collecting the bits when found, placing down a marker and returning once he got the tools to extract the rest is in my opinion the better way.
😂😂I laughed so hard as you got scared by the red sky😂that's just one of the beautiful starts of the days😂😂the sunrise and sunsets can be very colorful 😊
It's fun to see your progress. 😊For surviving the winter, you are still too slow. But your learning is quite good 😊I really enjoy your videos 😍👍
It's always good to dig around the ruins cause some nice things can be hidden under some dirt😉
Gz😁you survived your first encounter with a wolf 😁👍and yes, you can usually outrun those. They don't follow you for long 😊
One little hint: you can stack the firewood on the ground. It won't disappear. Works for peat as well. Especially important for the start where you don't have much inventory space 😊😘you also can place the Firestarter on the ground by clicking shift+control and right mouse button. And firepits aren't for making light. Those are for cooking or getting warm quickly. For light you have torches, those are not infinite like in Minecraft! But there are candles and lanterns and torch holders. 😊As long as you have a torch in your inventory or in your hand it doesn't expire (as long as you don't get wet😁). It just expire when you place them. They don't burn out when you take them off the wall ones per day and place it back. That resets the timer for the torch. Else you need to make new torches all 2 days😅btw: the game is paused when you are in the guide 😅
It's so sweet to watch someone playing this game for the first time 😍I love vintage story ♥️it's the better Minecraft 😁but it has a much higher learning curve 😊but you seem to be a smart boy cause you are using the guide 😁👍the guide is your best friend 😎you will find a lot of help in it and use the search function, cause no one can remember all the recipes 😁😅and playing on the default options is pretty hard for a newbie. Cause your hunger rate is brutal. It's also harder cause you picked the survival wilderness option. In the standard survival you also have a map, which makes it easier to navigate in the world 😊and I am not sure if you know it already but the green wheel in the middle is your mental stability. Being in the dark or in a bad spot makes your wheel getting empty. There are also good spots where your wheel is going up. Only build in stabile areas. And I guess if you don't die of hunger again, you will be dead in 4 days again 😅just saying "temporal storm" 😅can't wait to see your reaction to this 😁I don't know how much help do you want from your viewers, so I keep my hints tiny for now. 😊Abo is set😊the vintage story community is so tiny but super sweet and I am always happy to see a new face in the family 😘🤗wish you good luck and a lot of fun with this wonderful game. Nearly forgot to say: that you can't chisel in this mode breaks the heart of every VS player 😅😂for 99% of them the chisel is their most favorite tool and the biggest reason why this game takes so much time😅😂
Thank you for your comment! I appreciate it. And yes, I think the occasional minor tips like the ones you gave are perfect. Also, I may be smart for leaning on the survival handbook, but I have definitely made a large amount of dumb mistakes. Often times I am far too happy-go-lucky for my own good. 😂 Eventually I intend to run another series on VS after this one, where it is more customized to my style of play. There is where I look forward to using the chisel!!
just got the game myself, love watching you figure out the game, keep it up.
what the heck, I just posted this lol.
@daisnowsn2369 I can be pretty active 😂
@@RudometkinYT lol
You survived your first temporal storm. Nicely done; those kill a lot of first-time players. 😉 It takes *so long* for berry bushes to yield that you should *never* take flowering bushes. Let them produce berries, and *then* take them.
I can only image the horror of being stuck outside your first time on one of these. Also, this makes sense with the berry bushes and is a good tip. Thank you.
you're joking if you think i'm watching a 52 minute video of commenting on comments! also @1:36 idk which wise man you found on tiktok to tell you this but it's bad advice.
As soon as I spied the earthy nature of the end of the cave, I knew this would eventually happen. Good ol' gravity. Haha
Thanks for the heads up! 😆
