Bosco's Garden
Ireland
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 1 พ.ค. 2020
We are Shane and Kay Hatton. We have a passion for food, nature and growing things. In 2020 we began creating our permaculture food forest and no dig market garden in Kilkenny, Ireland. We have been filming the process from day one while also making videos of our visits to other permaculture and regenerative farming projects.
Growing in Bosco's Boots | Documentary (2024)
Here is a little documentary film we made chronicling the creation of our no dig permaculture homestead, market garden and food forest in Kilkenny, Ireland. Over 4 years, we transformed an empty field into a garden, including wildlife ponds for nurturing a balance of biodiversity; A garden ecosystem that we came to find integral to growing healthy plants and truly organic food. We set up a farm shop that surged in popularity over the years and we even began supplying local restaurants with our amazing vegetables grown in living soil.
This is our story. A tale of growth. A film and a dream, many years in the making. A dedication to my brother, Bosco, and our garden which we named in his memory. A testament to the utility and satisfaction of gardening/farming with nature. I hope you enjoy it.

Whole in the Ground | Documentary (2024)
มุมมอง 43Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Continuing this series of short permaculture documentaries; Here is a little film about something I've become ever more passionate about in recent years. Something that took me a long while to fully wrap my head around and still feel I have so much more to learn about. This one focuses on the soil food web in the context of no dig gardening. It features our own garden along with clips from Dr. ...
The Story of Permaculture | Documentary (2024)
มุมมอง 41Kหลายเดือนก่อน
After compiling a little film about Bill Mollison, there was a large call to expand on it and the origins of permaculture, giving some other pioneers their dues. So, here I have focused on some of the people who influenced me heavily when I first became interested in permaculture. It includes clips from David Holmgren, Masanobu Fukuoka, Sepp Holzer, Robert Hart, Emilia Hazelip, Allan Savory, Va...
Bill Mollison: The Father of Permaculture | Documentary (2024)
มุมมอง 38K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is a tribute to one of my all-time heroes. The course footage that I've featured here is from a PDC that Bill and Geoff did at Melbourne University in 2005. This was my first time looking back on it since his passing in 2016 and it has been a gripping experience, to say the least. There is so much gold in it that I struggled to cram just some of it into this short film. I'd highly recommen...

October Garden Tour | Getting Winter Ready
มุมมอง 1.1K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
This will be our final garden tour for quite a while as we make our way to Taiwan for the winter. We've been busy covering down beds, clearing the tunnels and preparing to turn some market garden beds into food forests. There's still plenty to show off though, so join us as we take a stroll through the garden on a gorgeous sunny day in October before the first frost arrives. If you enjoy watchi...

How to Make the ULTIMATE Compost with Worms | The Bathtub Method
มุมมอง 1.1K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
I've tried a few different worm farms over the years but the bathtub method is hands down my favourite for it's size and simplicity. Unlike other worm farms, I've never had any trouble with it overheating, drying out or getting too wet. It just seams to self regulate perfectly with no need for any intervention. If you enjoy watching what we do and would like us to keep doing it, consider suppor...
4 Years of Self Sufficiency | Our Permaculture Journey

Heya folks! What a journey it has been these last few years. We started in 2020, putting in our ponds and food forests. Going no dig in 2021, opening our farm shop, delivering produce to restaurants... And the rest is history. We've been completely self-sufficient and abundant in the most delicious seasonal vegetables and eggs for over 2 years now. I hope you enjoy this little video showing the...

Beautiful film and I love your garden. I would love to come visit one day. Wishing you every sucess with your venture, however you may define that.
Thanks!
great movie! #PermacultureRevolution
Do you have any suggestions for other starting materials for those of us who don't have access to fresh dung?
I did one a few years ago with just regular compost, and it worked well. You might need to feed them with kitchen scraps more regularly, though.
Your gardens are INSPIRATIONAL! And I love your videos -- thank you for all you share! I'm curious what the CD discs are used to deter?
Thanks! They're to stop crows from pulling up young seedlings.
We know this is Bosco’s garden because it’s conclusion is freedom
❤️
Beautiful.
More like a densely planted orchard than a food forest
And what a great film it is. Well done. I just loved how you conveyed the importance of energy conservation and distribution.
Thanks Odhran!
So in blocks C and D you didn't use cardboard? Just the plastic tarp over winter and compost and wood chips in early spring? Did you broadfork them first.
@odhrancrowe3894 yeah, it was there from June until January. I used a little bit of cardboard where the plastic didn't stretch to. I didn't broadfork at all, but I did in the polytunnel since it had been extremely compacted after I let the donkeys into the spot where we placed it in the winter of 21/22, when it was wet and after it had been tilled. I didn’t broadfork anywhere else. I don't even own a proper one. I just used a regular garden fork in the manner of a broadfork; lifting the soil but not turning it.
As I started watching this video, I am compelled to write down all the names in these lists for future reference. Sorry, but the video will have to wait.🥰 Thank you for this.
😂
I too liked the content but won't subscribe as I couldn't stand the loud music over all the good talking and information. Too hard for most people to extract what was being said from the distracting music. You do not need that music.
My inspiration in Brazil is Ernst Gotsch, pioneer of Syntropic Agriculture or Agroforestry, an incredible work of sustainable production.
Serenade the cows; they love music! Lovely story!❤️ I usually an anxious to get in the garden but serious health problems have me sidelined this year!☹️
A good excuse to chill out and enjoy the garden while you recover. Hope you're back on your feet soon.
Simply beautiful
Thank you!

fantastic video, made out of love, hope you keep youre calma, after over comming tradgity, superb giving of ones self and sharing❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Where’s a good place to buy these sheets? Homedepot gives me flooring and Amazon gives me arts and crafts
It sounds like you're not in Ireland, so I'm not sure, but keep looking, I guess.. Maybe try a pond supply specialist? All the best.
Well done! Jeff Lawton and Bill Mollison..What a team. I have learned a hell of a lot from them.
This video is so beautiful, Thanks 💚
Thanks!
What an amazing story and video. I am so happy for you and your family. I am starting something similar and all I can pray for is that I end up like you. Looks like I have found happiness. I still have a lot to go but I stop every day to look what I accomplished. As I end the day I go to see the sunset in the ocean to give thanks to God for another day that I got to live and fall asleep to hopefully wake up and or it all over again. God bless you !
I believe it is also affected by what kind of pollinater got to it whether it have been a 🐝 ,or a dragon fly, butterfly, ants, moths, birds, etc. also temperature and wind. Even a few inches difference can result in different amounts of sunlight and rain
A well thought out and enjoyabl video! Loved it!
Thanks!
Great documentary. Music track is really annoying and unnecessary.
Loved your movie.
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing your beautiful evergrowing journey with us 🌱😊
Thanks Lillian!
can you start a blog with those tips from that book and the ones you found?

There’s a huge number of permaculture people who use cardboard.A primary rule of permaculture is bring nothing in and take nothing out. Thereby not introducing toxins or taking out biomass
Someone else mentioned Starhawk but I don't see her on your list. She collaborates with Charles Williams on many of her workshops. They are in California. Also Pandora Thomas who I met through Starhawk. The often do Eco-activist trainings at OUR Ecovillage on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. Another permie couple in BC is Ann and Gord Baird. Never met them but I've followed them for years on FB.
Thanks! All added.
Wow. What an amazing journey. I love that it's a family affair and named in the memory of your brother. May God continue to bless your family.
Thank you! :)
An absolutely wonderful video!! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice doco
Thanks!
Great video!
Thanks!
Nice video, but some of the background music was really distracting.
Thanks, noted.

What a wonderful documentary… I’m so sorry for your brother’s death. You truly have done right by him building this amazing and bountiful permaculture garden. You truly have a gift that this world needs. I look forward to seeing many many more videos put out by you. God bless your days! ♥️👩🌾♥️
Thanks! 😄
I was wondering how you did the wildflower garden in the front yard, did you just throw out seeds into the existing grass? Such a lovely life you have built for you and your family in your brother's memory.❤
No seeds. All those flowers were already part of the lawn. We just let them grow. Most lawns will be like that unless they've been heavily sprayed or fertilised.
Great job. I am trying something similar in New Mexico to feed families.
Thanks! All the best with it!
This is such a wonderfully inspiring video, thank you <3
Glad you enjoyed it!
Lump in the throat stuff - thanks! Yacouba Sawadogo in Burkina Faso should be added. The man who stopped the desert and built a forest... Vijay Kumar in India - the movement that he was pivotal in making happen to inspire small scale farmers, especially women framers to use 'natural farming' in Andhra Pradesh India is quite extraordinary. Didi Pershouse, who writes the 'Wisdom Underground' on substack, has interviewed him. Didi herself is worth knowing about - she is a brilliant educator! not specifically about "permaculture" but a living earth approach to everything... Australian, Walter Jehne for his Soil Sponge perspective - Didi has interviewed him too... he worked on the Canberra Botanic Gardens rainforest gully creation. So glad Allan Savory is in there - his Holistic Management and decision making process is for way more than just grazing - it works for life!
Thanks! Added.
Thanks for sharing, im Happy I found this!
Beautiful
Pen in some hogs and let em root 😂 thats how they used to set ponds in Arkansas back in the day
thanks for sharing this..a movie out of your own life...😊
hi i love your garden and how it support your need and your neighbors..i am looking forward to doing the same to our land..just a question, why are u not planting trees like huge trees for shades, fruit-bearing and all? just curious
We have lots of trees planted. They are all still quite small though.
Beautifully done.
Thanks!
How did the people before plastic make ponds?
You pen in hogs and let em root for awhile. The crap makes the liner. Seen it done in Arkansas 40 years ago probably
@@onestar1017 Interesting.
Awesome video!!!
Thanks Rowan! :)
I loved the video! It was so informative! I'm a new subscriber from New Mexico. 😊
Glad to have you aboard! :)
