    I am about to build a disk screener on my processor, we have such thick bark out west I am tempted too not stagger the disks left and right. I am hoping keeping the disks more in a row will let the bark fall through. Thoughts? I like your big rigs btw !

    I actually make money from prospectors but don't follow or have any interest in prospecting videos. The cost to process a cord from the processor is amazing. Hopefully you'll realise that prospecting isn't as profitable or as fun as wood is and you'll get back into the good stuff and not the pretty stuff :D

    I have a dyna sc-16 going on 10 years with this processor I am up in the air about but big wood or small wood if I have 18 inch wood I have to flip wood over and resplit and takes a long time to do a 25 foot log but a 5 to 8 log I can do a 25 foot log in 2 min and 30 sec. just this fall I did 2 tri axle loads for my logger guy in 7 hours on 1 chain not to much resplitting he got the right size pole wood all 25 to 27 foot long poles. To do wood any faster for me would be 125.000 to 150.000 bucks for a new processor would it be worth it to save 2 hours ? I just dont know

    Putting a greater space between the rows of logs would improve airflow and log drying. It would also help with putting out a log fire.

    • @allthingsredneck8831
      @allthingsredneck8831 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I actually widen my yard this year to do just that.

  • @jakebredthauer5100
    @jakebredthauer5100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You could wait until the Versatile is completely worn out unless someone wants to buy a tractor like that. I think it makes sense to buy the used truck tractors. They are probably good enough and are much cheaper. When they quit you just switch the box over to a different one. I was told if the driver forgets to shut the pump off, that pretty much ruins the pump.

    • @jakebredthauer5100
      @jakebredthauer5100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the engine is worn out, the drivetrain may still be good. Then all that you would need to do is the engine. How long would it last if you fixed the engine? If you think the tractor is too small, the remedy for that would be to add weight.

    • @jakebredthauer5100
      @jakebredthauer5100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure it is good for the engine to have a light load all of the time. For a therapeutic heavy load you could tow a big truck that has an engine brake. It may help the tractor run better. On the other hand, it may be excessive stress on the tractor. Please get a second opinion on this practice before doing it. Some people believe in it.

  • @jakebredthauer5100
    @jakebredthauer5100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How far do you deliver? Because you have so much to sell, you may need to go out a long distance. Do you want to continue to increase volume of production?

  • @jakebredthauer5100
    @jakebredthauer5100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wouldn't think that you need air conditioning in Canada but if you put one on the Versatile, it might increase the trade-in value. I don't know if you are in the cab or outside the cab when you are operating the log grabber.

  • @jakebredthauer5100
    @jakebredthauer5100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I understand the dump trucks are for retail delivery. I am doubting the flatbed is for retail delivery. Please explain what happens to the pallet wood. I suspect it gets dropped off wherever there is a forklift to unload it, mostly wholesale. I guess you could have another distribution center somewhere that you own. You must be some sort of systems engineer. Maybe you could do consulting work to help others with firewood production. The majority of people would just want to copy someone else, or be told what to do. Never heard of 5,000 cord annually. Never heard of net-wrap on pallet wood. It is probably what farmers use on hay bales. Is the net-wrap made especially for pallets? I would have thought to drop the wood directly into a wire basket on a pallet, loose stack. Being looser the number of cords that could be put on the trailer would be less, I suppose. Why did you decide to dump it out and reload? Do you use used pallets or new pallets? Do you get pallets returned from the customers? Because you do not have storage for processed wood, I suppose you need to be selling wood all the time. Because the customers are getting the wood in the drying season, they do not need the wood to be as dry.

  • @jakebredthauer5100
    @jakebredthauer5100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Appears to be a design flaw making the circulars go up too high --- waste of time and energy. Logs too small to require splitting could be processed manually in a miter saw with a 12 inch circular blade. (Whatever the name of that saw is that pivots up and down.) To prevent blade pinch, put a block under. Do several pieces without stopping the blade. The unusually large logs could be done on an ordinary splitter with a lift. When the pieces are small enough I suppose they could be tossed into the processor. I have no experience, why I am here.

    • @jakebredthauer5100
      @jakebredthauer5100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you cite as a problem is actually a benefit to you. Only someone who does the volume you do, can afford to have two processors. It is not as easy for the smaller operators to solve the problem of different size logs.

  • @jakebredthauer5100
    @jakebredthauer5100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    It looks like you want to produce a large volume. Perhaps the stacks of logs should be separated more for fire mitigation purposes. North American firewood processor manufacturers can sell whatever quality they have for whatever price. They should think about later on.

    Id be buying a saw bench and a very long live deck for all that stuff under 6-inch zip zip zip don't even split it just cut it and be done. Pay some 13yr old like $5 an hour to sort the smallstuff out , assuming no child protection laws prohibit that lol, Im sure my father made a positive ROI on my labours ( AS did I )

    Man I love you set up, very efficient. This is my second season as a supplier, we got in to the bundle last season too with Alberta parks.. and boy that was a lot of work with my little range road processor.. but we managed and pumped out nearly 10000 thousand of the suckers... lol So I'm always looking for better ways to process firewood, AND you my friend have it down to a science....well done and thanks for sharing!
