My wife and I are each other's second marriage. We blended our families of my 3 boys and her 1b + 1g when the kids were all under 5 years old. We are still together, and all of us still get along, 25 years later. We know we are the statistical anomaly. The next spouses our exes married were unfortunately not the anomalies. Three out of five of our children ended up with PTSD from the treatment of their respective step parents. Violence, emotional abuse, differential treatment compared to those step siblings, etc. They experienced it all. We got to pick up the pieces. Both of our exes married at least twice after we got together. My boys are still in contact with their mother and things are ok there mostly because she is single again. My wife's son has no contact with his father, while her daughter has three phone calls per year with her father but only because she initiates it. Divorce, second marriage, blended families, can work but it is far more effort than a first marriage. In our case, with a lot of work, a lot of money spent on communication, and a bit of luck, it turned out well for all seven of us.

Sexual attraction is important to find a mate, but ultimately sex is such a small sliver of your whole life. Finding a mate based only on sexual attraction may not pan out for long. Imagine someone you would want to be with forever even if you never had sex with them, that would be a an ideal mate, the sex is bonus.

Hookup culture creates this pressure to not care about the people you sleep with, which is weird because in my opinion it’s a reflection of not caring about yourself, and you would rather take the “attention”. Why is it cool to not care about yourself and how your actions affect others? Why do we as a society constantly give people that further this harmful messaging for both men and women , a platform? I feel like that’s such an immature perspective like you stated. To me it signals not only performative actions for attention (like Sabrina’s entire career) but that you are not capable of true intimacy. I personally think the carelessness aspect as you become older becomes less attractive. It breeds a social contagion of narcissism and individualism that is not healthy nor sustainable for the average person. In most heterosexual marriages, the wife carries most of the household chores and childcare duties, even in cases where the wife earns more than her husband. There have been many studies on this. Imagine being in a marriage where you contribute more to the finances AND do more chores than your partner. That's unfair and frustrating. Maybe that's why the divorce rates are higher for women who earn more than their husbands. Also, think about women who want kids. If she's the main breadwinner, she can't quit her job and be a stay at home mom, as many mothers do. If there's a birth complication and she needs to take unpaid leave, that'll be difficult to handle, since she contributes to most to the household finances. There are many reasons why women would want a husband who earns more than/the same as her. Not all women think about this stuff, but that's another possible reason for the "hypergamy" stuff.

So I have bit of an outsiders perspective on this. I am gay and 48 years old but I have observed many MF relationships / interactions over the past 30+ years. I would say that Millennials and gen Z women do tend to have much more unrealistic standards for men, compared to the Gen X's. I know many women who are 35 years and older, have careers and are still single mainly because they are too way too picky. Men typically don't value a women's career the same way as a woman would. I have seem several women pushing 40 with fading looks, lost fertility and a bitchy demeanor either start to settle or come to the realization that they are going to be single for the rest of their lives. I think in the end it balances out between the sexes.
